VW Jetta Hybrid Coming To Detroit

VW Jetta Hybrid Coming To Detroit test 2

To state the painfully obvious: auto shows from here on out are bound to be characterized by—if not completely dominated by—hybrids, electrics, and other green concepts. At this year's Frankfurt Motor Show we've seen everything from tiny electric cars that could practically ride on the sidewalk to full-blown electrically powered supercars. And we've also started hearing rumors about the next-generation of auto-show-debuted green vehicles. First the Infiniti range-extending sports car. And now the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid.

2011 Initial Quaility Survey Results test 2

Every year the gods over at Agoura Hills speak and the auto manufacturers quake in their... boots. I’m talking about the research and survey firm J.D. Power and Associates. They publish The Power Report, a monthly newsletter targeted towards the auto industry. Besides the usual business-oriented articles, the company also conducts a number of surveys and their best known one is the J.D. Power and Associates’ Initial Quality Survey.

Infiniti To Build Range-Extending Sports Car test 2

For most companies, the Frankfurt Motor Show is where the teasing stopped and the full revealing began. But for Infiniti, the Frankfurt Motor Show was the place for teasing its next exciting release. Nissan's luxury arm said that it will be revealing a range-extending hybrid sports car at the Geneva Motor Show next year.

As is fashionable, Infiniti is calling its car an electric sports car, but reports indicate it will have a small gasoline engine serving as a range-extending generator—that would be a series hybrid.

Alfa Romeo 4C Goes Silver, Production Starts in 2013

Alfa Romeo 4C Goes Silver, Production Starts in 2013 test 2

After the Alfa Romeo 4C debuted in that captivating candy apple color in Geneva, I would have thought there's no way they could match that beauty. Especially not with a color as plain as silver. But the "fluid metal" 4C that showed up at the Frankfurt Motor Show actually gives the Geneva version a run for its hotness money. I still prefer the red, but this one is a close second.

40 MPG, Check. Top Safety Pick, Check. Made In USA, Check.

Chevrolet Sonic test 2
Needless to say, there is a lot of buzz surrounding Chevrolet’s new subcompact. Although much of the hype is probably based on remnants of Chevy fans which remain quivering in frustration from the former Chevy subcompact Aveo, the Sonic stands all on its own as a tiny car worthy of big talk. After months of teasing strong fuel economy and safety, Chevrolet has announced that the Environmental Protection Agency rated the Ecotec 1.4L turbo Sonic at 40 mpg on the highway and 29 mpg in the city. And, the IIHS granted the Sonic their Top Safety Pick status.

The Sonic’s list of strengths doesn’t end with safety and efficiency, though. It just so happens that the Ecotec 1.4L turbo is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and is capable of reaching 60 mph in 8.2 seconds.

You Have The Right To Remain Silent: Ford's Crown Vic Is No More

Yes, it’s true: The car you loved to hate when the cops were using it—and probably never thought of UNLESS the cops were using it—has ended its long production run. The last of Ford’s Old Grey Ladies had its newborn rump spanked into life at the company’s St. Thomas (Ontairo, CAN) Assembly Plant on Sept. 15th, signaling an end to both car and factory.

[Incidentally, that white-over-tan car—VIN 2FABP7CW8CX104292—is Saudi Arabia-bound and lined with the signatures of the people who built her. You’d think that Ford or someone HERE would want a keepsake like that. Apparently not.]

I ask now for a moment of silence for the dearly-departed. Believe it or not, this model holds a special place in my heart (and just maybe—if you’re honest—in yours, too). So let’s not mourn the passing of a great model. Instead, let’s celebrate a life well-lived with a (semi)brief history of the Ford Crown Victoria….

Subaru Recalls Nearly 200,000 Cars!

Subaru Recalls Nearly 200,000 Cars! test 1-1

Although this recall may not seem to pose as dire consequences as some others in recent memory, the fact that Subaru is recalling 195,080 Legacy and Outback models produced in 2010 and 2011 means that the company must have run some figures and realized that the recall is, in fact, cheaper than the potential consequences of not issuing one. It seems that the bottom cover of the wiper motor of these cars is prone to heating up and, potentially, catching fire. Sounds like a great way to turn a rainstorm into a... Uh... firestorm, yeah. Keep reading for all of the recall details.

The NSX Rises Again: Honda Confirms A Sports Car Under Development

The NSX Rises Again: Honda Confirms A Sports Car Under Development test 2

Toyota has the Lexus LFA. Nissan has the GT-R. Currently, the only member of the Japanese Big 3 to not have its own flagship sports car is the one that boasted the top Japanese sports car a short decade ago. Back in the 1990s and early 2000s, the Acura NSX was the supercar from Japan. And not too long after its discontinuation in 2005, rumors of a successor began popping up regularly. Now, Honda has confirmed that it is indeed working on a new flagship sports car.

According to Autocar, Honda CEO Takanobu Ito confirmed that the automaker is working on an NSX successor on the night before the Frankfurt Motor Show began.

Kia GT Concept Gets Detailed

Kia GT Concept Gets Detailed test 2

In today's eco-conscious world, the turbocharged V-6 is quickly becoming the new V-8. So, maybe it should be no surprise that the rumored V-8 underneath the hood of Kia's GT concept is actually a turbo V-6. Still, after all the talk about two V-8 muscle cars, we're a little surprised by the official details.

The GT leaked pretty thoroughly last week, and Kia has updated the world with the full details of its sporty concept.

Kia's first ever rear-wheel drive vehicle, the GT draws up to 390 horses out of a turbocharged, direct-injected 3.3-liter V-6 engine. That plant is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Despite the downgrade from V-8 to V-6, the GT offers plenty of virility, particularly for a Kia-badged sedan.

2011 Volkswagen Jetta Recalled For Being Too Hot!

2011 Volkswagen Jetta Recalled For Being Too Hot! test 2

It seems that the next time someone says your 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is a 'hot' car, be aware they might not be complimenting your ride. In fact, you might have a very angry passerby on your hands. It seems that the stainless steel exhaust tip on these cars extends just a bit too far from the car, and can become just a bit too hot—like skin-scalding hot.

Obviously, this may not seem like a huge problem to some, but if you have one of the 30,000 Jettas in question and little kids running around, this can become a very dangerous combination.

Rolls-Royce Is Bustin' Out All Over, Part 2: Now It's The FACTORY That's Expanding

On: Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 1:35PM | By: Andrew W Davis

Rolls-Royce factory shot test 2

It’s true: the global financial crisis is not only over, it’s been drawn, quartered, salted, burned, and cast to the winds. How else could ultra-luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce have not only hit its maximum plant capacity, but exceeded it?

Here’s their PR department's typically understated (read: "English") way of saying it: “The Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood in West Sussex is to expand in the months ahead. The news follows significant growth in worldwide sales over the last 18 months and a greater demand from customers for highly personalised Rolls-Royce Ghost and Phantom models.”

Or: Makin’ a killin’ is their business, and business is GOOD….
