Hyundai Selling Cars Like Hot Cakes, On Its Way To Becoming World's Top-Seller?

On: Sat, Oct 1, 2011 at 10:55AM | By: Chris Weiss

Hyundai Selling Cars Like Hot Cakes, On Its Way to Becoming World's Top-Sel test 2

A few decades ago, Hyundai was known for one thing: cheap, unreliable cars. Today, the Korean automaker has successfully turned its image around, offering a diverse lineup that includes everything from entry level subcompacts to muscle cars. Hyundai has been so successful at diversifying, it may very well need a luxury brand to house cars like the $58,000 Equus. Hyundai has become a quality option in nearly every corner of the marketplace.

According to a Fortune report, the company is having so much sales success, it can barely keep up with demand.

Ferrari 458 Spider Gets Priced test 2

If you took a look at the Ferrari 458 Spider at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show and thought the retractable hard-top would add around $30,000 to the price of the popular, award-winning 458, color yourself correct. Ferrari announced US and European pricing for its latest sporty drop-top, and we're looking at a 15 percent increase over 458 Italia hard-top pricing.

US To Get Lotus Ethos City Car By 2013 test 2

At least year's Paris Motor Show, Lotus came out, guns blazing, with a slew of sports car concepts designed to reinvent the brand. When the smoke from those booming gunshots finally cleared, there was one more car to be seen: the City Car concept, a tiny subcompact based on the Emas concept from parent company Proton.

Lotus is working on production of many of those concepts, including the City Car, which will be called the Ethos. Despite dour sales for competitors like the smart fortwo, Lotus will bring the Ethos to the US market in a couple years.

Nissan Mates Man And Machine

ROLLE (Sept. 28, 2011) test 2

Year after year, car manufacturers improve vehicle ‘safety’ with new technologies developed after incredible investment into research and development. But at what cost? Do drivers really want a seven-speed automatic transmission for smooth shifting or scores of multi-directional airbags adding precious weight to an already bloated ride? Who knows, but most people can agree that any automotive technology improvements are usually exciting—regardless of how practical they might be. Unfortunately, Nissan’s new plan to develop hands-free R&D driving technology rides the same fine line of an exciting development mixed with questionable practicality.

After determining your driving patters, Nissan’s ‘car of tomorrow’ will be able to predict your next move. In theory, as the driver thinks about turning right the vehicle will prepare itself to turn, choosing the proper speed and road position for you.

Now Men Can Smell Like Mercedes (But Not In That Good New-Car Way)

Mercedes-Benz Perfume for men test 2

From the folks that bring you custom helicopters, branded credit cards, the ridiculous smart transport module, and the occasional car, now comes what every rich, German-car-loving guy—and it is for guys—has been waiting for: Mercedes-Benz Perfume.

Hey! I know what you’re thinking, but just because it says “perfume” doesn’t mean it’s only for the ladies. And the proof is in Mercedes’ own spiel: “Innovative and unique, it is the first men's fragrance from Mercedes-Benz and it combines woody notes with floral freshness.”

So… yes. It’s perfume and it’s floral. But seeing as how the bottle design is “masculine, modern and elegant,” it HAS to be manly, right? Right!

Bugatti Galibier Pressing Ahead With 1,000 + HP And Bigger Interior

Bugatti Galibier Pressing Ahead With 1,000 + HP And Bigger Interior test 2

When it debuted in 2009, the Bugatti 16C Galibier was an unlikely marriage of ultra-premium sedan and 800-hp supercar. The concept was basically a stretched out, slightly detuned Veyron with an interior expensive enough to make a multi-billionaire blush. Such an odd car was bound to polarize auto fans, and, from the opinions that I've read, that's exactly what happened. Some were enamored with the polished aluminum-and-carbon theme, winged engine bay, and incomparably luxurious interior. Others saw an eyesore excessive and unattractive enough to bring back a serious debate on socialist reform.

Well, today we have some equally divisive news: Bugatti is still pursuing Galibier development, but plans some significant changes as it moves from concept to production.

More Details Emerge On Porsche's Mid-Level Supercar

More Details Emerge On Porsche's Mid-Level Supercar test 2

It's a rather ambiguous time to be a diehard Porsche fan. On the one hand, you've spent the better part of the decade watching Porsche water down what was once a hardcore sports car brand with offerings like the Cayenne, Panamera, and upcoming Cajun. On the other hand, Porsche has committed to building its first supercar since the ever-exciting 959 and may very well be building a second car above and beyond the 911 range. It's a real bit of give-and-take.

While Porsche has yet to publicly commit to that last sports car, more and more details are starting to emerge.

Toyota To Get Back On Its Feet After Earthquake

Toyota To Get Back On Its Feet After Earthquake test 2

After being thoroughly ravaged by natural disaster—and having a little salt thrown in its wounds courtesy of Nissan—Toyota plans to have its sales back on track by next month. The automaker told Bloomberg that vehicle inventory at U.S. dealerships is moving back toward normal levels.

ZL1 Auctions For Jaw-Dropping $250,000!

2012 Camaro ZL1 test 2

As I sat down to watch a pre-recorded, DVR version of Saturday’s Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas, I couldn’t help but feel excited about hours and hours of commercial-free automotive glory. Unlike some other unmentioned auctions, Barrett-Jackson is classy, sophisticated, and does not include the near-constant pestering of salesmen in the throes of deal making. After so many impressive vehicles, a black 2012 Camaro rolled onto the bidding platform. As it would turn out, this wasn’t just any Camaro, but the very first 2012 Camaro ZL1 to be offered to the public AND the 69th ZL1 made at the Oshawa Assembly plant in tribute to the original 1969 Camaro ZL1—of which only 69 were produced.

Godzilla's Hungry: Feed Him 570 Horses

Godzilla's Hungry: Feed Him 570 Horses test 2

The Nissan GT-R may very well be the best bang-for-the-buck supercar of its generation. The 2012 GT-R screams off the line and hits 62 mph in three seconds flat, barely losing out to the $380,000 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 (2.9 seconds), despite its $90,000 price tag. That's a lot of performance for not that much coin.

If new reports turn out to be accurate, Nissan plans to up only the GT-R's value, boosting horsepower by 40-hp in the 2013 model.

What Does Driving Stick Say About You?

What Does Driving Stick Say About You? test 2

MINI was curious—since they have the highest percentages of manual owners—what driving a stick shift (or at least being able to) says about about a person. So they teamed up with Hunch to find out what separates those who can drive manual and those who can't. The results are in and looking great, thanks to a sweet infographic by Column Five Media.

So, which side are you on? Take a look, tell us what you think.
