Alfa Romeo 4C May Be Priced Under $45K

Alfa Romeo 4C May Be Priced Under $45K test 2

Most pricing estimates that we've seen have put the price of the upcoming Alfa Romeo 4C at between $55,000 and $70,000. However, those estimates have primarily been in euros or pounds, with US figures gained by simple pound/euro-to-dollar conversions. Last week, reports indicated that the US price of the sexy 4C could be significantly lower.

In a conversation with Inside Line, Alfa Romeo executives hinted that the price of the 4C could be $45,000 or less. The 4C will lead Alfa's return to the US market in 2013.

Chevy Sonics Recalled For Missing Brake Pads

Chevy Sonics Recalled For Missing Brake Pads test 2

Look, when it comes to recalls, we will be the first to admit that some recalls are definitely worse than others. Occasionally there may be an issue with a faulty solder on one out of ten thousands spots on a particular model from a particular year, and yes, although annoying, it isn't altogether unexpected every now and then. As long as you are made aware of the problem (which we here at blog.autoshopper.com try to help with), you can hopefully have the issued fixed as soon as possible without any real issue.

Now, up until this week, Chevrolet had been doing fairly well in the public eye for no other reason than it hasn't really had any major recalls like some other big-name car companies. However, that was last week. This week Chevy has announced the recall of 4,296 Chevy Sonics made from June 2, 2011 through November 21, 2011 (all of which are designed 2012 models) because, "on some of these vehicles, the front brake inner or outer pad may be missing."

Like we said, some recalls are just simply worse than others. Missing brake pads is a tough one to explain to your customers. GM is planning on notifying (and more than likely apologizing) on or around January 21, but quite honestly, that still doesn't feel fast enough.

All I Want For Christmas Is A Mini Rocketman!

All I Want For Christmas Is A Mini Rocketman! test 2

I'm about the farthest thing from a Mini fan as there ever was, but even I appreciated the interesting, true-to-form nature of the Rocketman concept. Bucking the not-so-mini trend of other current Mini cars like the Countryman, the Rocketman was a refreshing return to small, a return to Mini's roots. The concept car, which debuted at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, also included a number of interesting design elements. The car hasn't been officially green-lighted just yet, but if one Mini designer gets his Christmas wish, it will be.

In a dinner conversation with Inside Line, Mini design chief Anders Warming called the Rocketman a car that could "claim the true heritage of the brand," and went on to say that the car is "on my Christmas list."

Japanese Smart Seats Could Prevent Theft

Japanese Smart Seats Could Prevent Theft test 2

Researchers in Japan have designed an interesting new type of anti-theft device for vehicles. The specially designed driver seat is capable of recognizing its owner and cutting off the ignition if a foreign...um..backside is present.

Developed at the Advanced Institute of Industrial Technology in Tokyo, the seats, which we'll call smart seats, incorporate a series of 360 pressure sensors that are capable of recognizing the size and shape of the owner. Data from the sensors is sent to the cloud where an external computer analyzes it. If the profile matches the rightful owner, the car starts. If the profile doesn't match, the car doesn't start.

33,000 Nissan Sentras Recalled

33,000 Nissan Sentras Recalled test 2

Although it doesn't sound like much, something as simple as a faulty coating on a battery terminal can in turn cause some damage. In fact, it could potentially cause so many problems for Nissan, they have decided to recall all 33,803 Sentras built between May 11 - May 22 of 2010, as well as cars built from July 8 - October 25 of 2010.

It seems the zinc coating may in fact have been thicker than called for, causing some problems for electric to pass through as intentioned. This may cause a sudden drop in voltage or even a stall while the car is in motion -- which obviously can cause some significant damage.

Volkswagen To Advertise 2012 Beetle During The Super Bowl

Volkswagen To Advertise 2012 Beetle During The Super Bowl test 2

I don't necessarily think the average Beetle driver is a rabid football fan, but both the Beetle and the Super Bowl do have one big thing in common: They both enjoy hugely iconic status in the US. These two icons will soon be joined together when Volkswagen uses the biggest day in American television advertising to showcase the all-new Beetle.

Volkswagen announced that it will have a 60-second spot at the start of the third quarter of Super Bowl XLVI. The automaker hasn't revealed any specifics about its ad, but did say that "a fully integrated digital, social media, and grassroots campaign" will accompany the ad.

Production Alfa Romeo 4C To Lose Its Carbon Fiber Body

On: Tue, Dec 27, 2011 at 2:12PM | By: Chris Weiss

Production Alfa Romeo 4C To Lose Its Carbon Fiber Body test 2

We knew it was too good to be true: a $60,000 sports coupe weighing only 1,800 lbs.? Even with a modest 1.8-liter engine, the Alfa Romeo 4C concept boasted a sub-5-second 0-to-62 mph time and a plenty ample 155 mph top speed.

We're a little disappointed but not all that surprised to report that the 4C will lose its carbon fiber body and gain some weight in production. The price and full carbon fiber body just didn't compute, so we knew this day was coming. On the bright side, the car will only gain about 200 lbs., keeping things under 2,000 lbs. total.

Lexus Reveals LF-LC Concept Ahead of Detroit

Lexus Reveals LF-LC test 2

It looks like Toyota's new focus on sporty cars will extend right up to its luxury brand. At least that's what we gather if the LF-LC concept is any indication of the future plans at Lexus. Shortly after the car leaked earlier this week, Lexus provided an official preview.

Lexus hasn't provided much hard information on the car, but did give us a pretty thorough look with a variety of pictures. The car is very sporty and aggressive, featuring a heavily raked, slung back cabin that flows into a rear lip spoiler. The LF-LC also features a panoramic glass roof. If produced, this car would easily rank among Lexus' sexiest, sportiest offerings.

Chevy Sonic Gets Sporty

Chevy Sonic Gets Sporty test 2

Sporty isn't a word that naturally comes to mind when related to subcompact hatchbacks, but Chevy will soon launch what amounts to a sporty version of its Sonic subcompact. Chevy announced earlier this week that it will introduce the Sonic RS at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

GM Recalls 2010 And 2011 Cadillac SRX Models

GM Recalls 2010 And 2011 Cadillac SRX Models test 2

GM issued a recall of 2010 and '11 model year SRX crossovers on Thursday. The recall is related to a potentially serious issue in which failing transmissions can allow the SRX to roll out of park.

The recall affects more than 15,000 SRX models worldwide, with about 8,789 located in the United States. The affected models are model year 2010 and 2011 built between October 26, 2008 and June 23, 2011. According to GM, no injuries or deaths have resulted from the transmission issue, but one run-away vehicle has been reported.

Classic Car Cultist: Pontiac Aztek

On: Mon, Dec 26, 2011 at 1:17PM | By: Chris Salamone

2003 Pontiac Aztek test 2

The Pontiac Aztek?! How can a vehicle which tops Edmunds’ “100 Worst Cars of All Time” and ranks 39th in AOL’s “50 Worst Cars of All Time” be featured as a classic? While not a mainstream classic – to be sure – the Aztek was a vehicle of immeasurable, yet quirky practicality that charmed nearly 30,000 sales per year from a dedicated following. But the Aztek looked like some sort of pseudo-futuristic Orwellian disaster – a fact which has landed countless criticisms.

Love it or hate it, the car’s freaky looks and uber practicality are precisely what made this vehicle a classic among certain demographics. Ok, fine. Generation X hardly qualifies as a demographic.
