Nissan Unveils 2013 370Z test 2

Nissan whipped the cloth off the all-new 2013 370Z sports coupe the day before the Chicago Auto Show. The new car isn't radically updated, but it does receive some minor styling and options changes.

The main revision to the 2013 Z is the updated front fascia defined by vertical LED daytime running lamps. A red reflector on the rear of the car replaces a black center cover on the current model. Nissan added two new color options - Magma Red and Midnight Blue.

Volt Sales Drop In January

Volt Sales Drop In January test 2

The Chevy Volt is starting to look like one of those Miss America winners that get rocked by a scandal during their year of reign and fall rapidly from grace. The Volt got to do its best pageant wave when it took home all kinds of awards and accolades in late 2010 and early 2011. Then, during the remainder of 2011, it was one 'scandal' after another: poor sales, battery fires, government investigations, lowered expectations, etc.

This year isn't starting off any better. In addition to Congressional hearings on the Volt fires, the Volt's sales are off to a sluggish start.

Infiniti To Build GT-R Based Sports Car?

Infiniti To Build GT-R Based Sports Car? test 2

Infiniti is considering building a sports car based on the Nissan GT-R. A GT-R-based coupe is one of the options that Nissan's luxury brand is considering for a potential flagship.

Francois Bancon, head of advanced planning for Infiniti, told CAR magazine that an Infiniti GT-R is one of three or four different models the company is considering for the top of its range. He said that the GT-R platform is "too good a platform to use only on one model." It's hard to disagree with that.

The Tesla Model X Draws Nearer...

Tesla Model X Teaser test 2

Interested to know what the next Tesla EV will look like? We're officially one step closer, as Tesla has released its first teaser of the model. The teaser comes less than a week before Tesla will unveil the new crossover.

Tesla announced last month that it will officially unveil the Model X crossover on February 9. Interestingly, Inside Line reports that the unveil will take place at the Tesla LA Design Studio in Hawthorne, California and not at the Chicago Auto Show, which gets underway the day before.

Most of the Model X remains in the shadows - it is merely a teaser, after all - but we do see a grille that looks similar but perhaps a little bigger and more rounded than the grille on the Model S. We also see what appears to be a rather rounded windshield and roofline, though the latter disappears quickly into darkness.

Shelby Supercars Drops The 'Shelby'

Shelby Supercars Drops The 'Shelby' test 2

Isn't it confusing when two or more people with the same last name share a profession or passion closely? In the world of exotic cars, there are surnames that transcend family lineage. One of the most confusing exists between Carroll Shelby and Jerod Shelby. The former is an icon known for decades of automotive experience that includes the Cobra and many a high-performance Mustang. The latter is the namesake of Shelby Supercars or SSC, which has owned the production world speed record and hopes to earn it again with its new Tuatara. If indeed it does earn that record, it will be held by "SSC" not Shelby Supercars.

It's not surprising that people would confuse Carroll Shelby and Jerod Shelby, given their similar occupations. Apparently this was becoming a growing nuisance to Carroll because Carroll Shelby Licensing and its corporate parent Carroll Shelby International appear to have forced Shelby Supercars into officially dropping the 'Shelby'.

Lamborghini SUV Confirmed (By Audi)

Lamborghini SUV Confirmed test 2

Earlier this week, some pictures alleged to be the upcoming Lamborghini SUV leaked across the Internet. Several publications and blogs tried to confirm the photos, and it appears one was successful. Like it or not, the Lamborghini crossover cometh.

What a sad day. We were really hoping those pictures were fake. Or at least that Lamborghini hadn't actually decided on the SUV. But, according to an Auto News report, the SUV is quite real.

SRT (Dodge) Teases The 2013 Viper

SRT (Dodge) Teases The 2013 Viper test 2

SRT has released the first teaser picture of the upcoming 2013 Viper - unless you consider this Viper prototype dressed up in last-generation Viper clothing or the Viper RV the first teaser, then this would be the second or third. Whatever the case, it's the closest look that we've gotten at the new Viper.

After running a pretty safe contest that required 10,000 Facebook likes by February 1 for a sneak preview, SRT made the reveal just before the stroke of midnight on January 30. It's not really much of a "reveal," but more of a very vague tease. We see more of the light reflecting off the Viper than we do of the car itself.

About all we can discern from the teaser is that there's a double bubble roof like the last-gen Viper, what looks like LED lamps, and a prominent hood bulge. From the teaser, it doesn't appear all that different from the last Viper, but we see so little, it could be a completely different car and we'd never know it.

GM's Chevy Volt Super Bowl Ad

On: Mon, Feb 6, 2012 at 11:19AM | By: Chris Weiss

GM Will Advertise Chevy Volt During Super Bowl test 2

After a couple of months of bad publicity, GM will look to rally around the Chevy Volt and work on improving its image beginning on Super Bowl Sunday. A new Volt ad was among five Chevy ads that GM planned for the game.

The Chevy Volt has had a rough couple of months. In November, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation on a potential battery-fire issue - about the last thing the Volt or any electric powered car needs. Just when it looked like Chevy had solved the problem to the NHTSA's satisfaction, Congress decided that the government's vehicular safety agency might have been negligent in its duties and opened up hearings on the Volt and NHTSA's handling of the issue. Some harsh quotes made headlines, and the Chevy's Volt image has been in rapid spiral mode for weeks.

15,000 Kenworth & Peterbilt Trucks Recalled

15,000 Kenworth & Peterbilt Trucks Recalled test 2

One of the scarier thoughts we've all had driving down the highway is the notion that that huge semi filling up the rearview mirror might not be able to stop in enough time. The next thought following that one is more of an image, as we imagine our car becoming more like a crush soda can, and our day ending just a little worse than we could hope for.

Unfortunately, those thoughts just got a little closer to becoming a potential reality because Paccar, the parent company of Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks has just issued a recall of 15,932 spanning 21 different models. The reason? A faulty check valve on the brakes that can ultimately lead to a fire, or loss of control of the truck.

All 21 models are either 2012 or 2013 trucks, so if you just purchased your first truck to go with that brand new CDL, you might want to give Peterbilt or Kenworth a call to schedule a free fix of your faulty valve before you make some poor driver's worst fears come true.

Chrysler Feels Lucky, Gives Clint Eastwood Shot

On: Fri, Feb 3, 2012 at 4:47PM | By: Chris Salamone

Clint Eastwood test 2

Last year Chrysler unveiled the “Imported from Detroit” ad campaign and the world took notice. From snazzy apparel to enthusiastic newspaper headlines and everything in between, Chrysler’s slogan struck a nerve with just about anyone who would listen – even garnering an Emmy.

And this year’s Super Bowl commercial looks to be no different…except for one big change. This time Eminem will make way for the man, myth, and legend: Clint Eastwood.

2012 will be the second year in a row that Chrysler airs a full two minute Super Bowl commercial, which has apparently become something of a growing trend among companies. The traditional 30 second advertising spot has been Norrised (a la Chuck) in favor of more expensive, entertaining, and ultimately effective campaigns which now have plenty of time to reference a happy animal, show an attractive person, make a joke, and concomitantly sell a product.

Kia Releases Supermodel Super Bowl Commercial

Kia Releases Supermodel Super Bowl Commercial test 2

Puppy dogs and hyper-excited aliens are cute - heck, even sand-bearing elves make us crack a smile - but if you really want to win the hearts and minds of America's red-blooded football fan, there's really only one way to do it: gorgeous women. There's a reason that sports teams have cheerleaders.

That's the direction that Kia takes with its Optima Super Bowl commercial, featuring Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima - one of the most lusted after women in the world - and a bevy of bikini models. To round out 60 seconds of sheer, testosterone-fueled excitement, Kia also throws in some hard rock courtesy of Motley Crue, championship bull rider Judd Leffew and UFC fighting legend Chuck Liddell.

The 16-second teaser clip released last week was basically a long, slow motion shot of Lima, making it look even more sexy than the actual commercial. In the actual ad, Lima plays but a supporting role in a greater story that's based around the vastly different psyches of men and women. The "Sandman" comes in to cast sweet dreams upon a soundly sleeping woman but accidentally spills some of his dream dust on her husband. What ensues is two very different versions of "sweet dreams."
