Ultra-Efficient Volkswagen XL1 Hybrid May Inspire Sports Car test 1-1

Destined to become the world's most fuel efficient production car, the revolutionary Volkswagen XL1 is being prepared for a limited production run. Volkswagen last showed it at the Geneva Motor Show and plans to get it on the European market by the end of the year. While the United States is unlikely to get access to the 261-mpg ultralight cruiser, Volkswagen may use the car as the basis for a high-performance sports car that will make it here.

The crossover, which has been absent for a decade, gets some radical new styling but enjoys a classically rugged build designed to excel off-road. Jeep announced pricing of the 2014 model this week and will get it to dealerships in the third quarter.

Electronic License Plates: Crime Preventer or Spy Tool?

Electronic License Plates test 2

Originally, state governments were formed to look out for the interests of its citizens. A couple of centuries later, state governments are looking to their citizens for the money to fund their massive operating budgets. Tickets, fees, and taxes just aren't enough to feed these bureaucratic machines, so new ways have to be explored. Like electronic license plates.

Five Great Father's Day Cars

Ford Mustang test 2

A car might seem like an extravagant Father's Day gift, but your dad did teach you how to drive and maybe bought you your first car. Plus, he had to wait up anxiously on those nights when you gallavanted off in your car way past curfew. So maybe a car isn't such an extravagant gift after all; maybe it's just the perfect way of saying "thank you," which is what Father's Day is all about.

To help you out, U.K. car rental firm Great Escape Classic Car Hire has outlined the "five ultimate dad cars for Father's Day." Even if you have no plans to buy or rent your dad a car, the list is a fun read of classic cars that any car-loving father would surely appreciate. It also brings about a great idea: Even if you can't afford to give a car as a gift, you could always rent that cherry red sports car your dad always wanted but never treated himself to.

Toyota Recalls 87,000 Models

Toyota Recalls 87,000 Models test 1-1

Well, it has been a little while since we've heard from Toyota in terms of recalls.  But, when Toyota issues a recall, they don't mess around.  They do it, and they do it big.  This time around Toyota has issued a recall of 2010 Prius models that were produced between March 31, 2009 – October 9, 2009 and 2010 Lexus HS250h models produced between June 19, 2009 – October 9, 2009 to the tune of 87,060 models in total.  It seems that these cars may have a defective brake booster pump that can leak nitrogen gas into the brake fluid.  If nitrogen gets into the brake fluid, it can cause the car to brake improperly—elongating normal stopping distances without warning, which could result in a very hazardous condition to both driver and other motorists and/or pedestrians.

Toyota will begin its recall next month free of charge. Owners may call Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 with questions or to schedule an appointment. Read on for the full report...

The New Toyota Corolla Gets Some Attitude

The New Toyota Corolla Gets Some Attitude test 1-1

The Toyota Corolla has always been a lot of things. Affordable, reliable and strong selling are among the top few things that come to mind. Interesting to look at? No, we can't say that one follows closely. But Toyota is intent on changing our minds with the 2014 Corolla. Toyota calls it "exciting, impactful" styling, and we have a hard time disagreeing with that description.

The 2014 Chevrolet SS is the sedan for muscle lovers who need a little extra room. Chevy's first performance sedan since 1996, the SS packs a rare combination of room for five and more than 400 hp. Chevy announced a base price of $44,470 this week. That price includes a $995 destination fee.

2012 Buick Encore test 2

"Far more flexible than a sedan but more affordable, maneuverable, and fuel-efficient than a larger SUV, today's compact SUV is a masterful mix of practicality," describes Kelley Blue Book on its website KBB.com. Indeed, the small SUV, commonly known as the crossover or CUV, has been a popular and growing segment of the auto market. With an increasing number of options to choose from, it can be difficult to find the right one. KBB has identified the 10 choices that it believes are better than the rest.

Official: 2014 Chevrolet SS goes on sale

Official: 2014 Chevrolet SS goes on sale test 1-1

It's been nearly two decades since Chevrolet had a muscle-bound rear-drive sedan in its lineup. The last one was a Corvette-powered monster called the Impala SS, and people loved it. Problem was, fullsize SUVs were all the rage in 1996. So Chevy decided to stop production of its snarling gazelle and use that production line to build more profitable SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe.

GM brought back the RWD super sedan in 2012, when it started importing a re-badged version of the Australian-made Holden Caprice. But the Chevrolet Caprice PPV was strictly a police model, which left the enthusiast market a bit... cold. Granted, if you wanted a kid-friendly American steroid-special, you could go for the 470-hp Dodge Charger SRT8, or the AWD Ford Taurus SHO (365-hp). But GM fans were SOL, until today, that is.

Almost 10 Percent of American Households Don't Own a Car test 1-1

We knew cars were becoming less and less popular, thanks in part to young folks who would rather travel the world over bandwidth than via asphalt, but we didn't quite know how drastically the phenomenon was affecting car ownership numbers until a new report. According to automotive research firm CNW, 9.3 percent of American households did not have a single car parked outside as of last year.
