On: Wed, Oct 27, 2010 at 4:37PM | By: Sherry Christiansen

Honda, Toyota, and Ford Lead Consumer Report Reliability Survey test 1-1

A recent annual survey compiled by Consumer Report magazine reveals that Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. are both at the top of the list for the most reliable vehicles of 2011, with Ford Motor Company at the top of the domestic automakers list and General Motors moving up in the ranks.

Many Chrysler vehicles (as well as European brands) have models that scored below average in reliability tests, according to the magazine.

83% of Chevy models were scored average or better in the reliability category according to the magazine.  That is a 50% better score for Chevrolet than last year’s results.

Civil War: Bentley Sues Axl Rose test 1-1

It would seem to me that leasing a $200,000 car to a rock star with a well-documented history of violent and erratic behavior is a bad idea. But for some reason, Bentley had to learn that the hard way. According to news reports, Bentley has a filed a civil lawsuit against Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose for unpaid bills and damage to a leased Flying Spur.

Ford To Post Highest Profit Since Its Inception For Third Quarter 2010 test 1-1

Ford Motor Company is hoping to post its biggest profit in history when numbers come in for the 3rd quarter. Ford’s CEO Alan Mulally’s lineup overhaul will reveal a huge boost in sales after the launch of many new redesigned Ford cars and trucks.

Financial analysts that were interviewed by Bloomberg News predict that Ford may post $1.37 billion in net income for the 3rd quarter, up from $997 million. This years’ third quarter profits will be a new record setter, beating Ford's all-time high of $1.13 billion in sales that was reported back in 1997. According to Automotive News.com;”estimates for adjusted quarterly profit have risen to 38 cents a share, the average of 12 analysts, from about 34 cents a month ago.”

Ford captured the market for 15.1% light vehicle sales compared to only 13% 2 years ago and according to Autodata Corp., buyers pay more for Ford vehicles since Ford launched the new line-up of vehicles such as the Fiesta subcompact, and high tech features like the Ford Sync and voice activated stereo controls.

Toyota Dealers Dig Deep to Sway New Customers

Toyota Dealers Dig Deep to Sway New Customers test 1-1

Although Toyota sales have been affected by recent safety issues and recalls of Toyota vehicles, the Japanese automaker has managed to hold on to a high percentage of its brand loyal customers.  In fact, in recent months, Toyota’s sales records have returned to pre-recall levels.

But in order for Toyota to promote sales recovery, the company has had to offer much higher incentives and promotions than ever before, causing to dealers to accept lower gross profits. Toyota’s sticker prices on new 2011 models are the lowest of all “mainstream brands,” according to Truecar.com.

Of course some discounts are covered by factory incentives, even so, dealers have had to give up more on bottom line prices.  "We're seeing it; the pressure is definitely on the bottom line, the gross line," said Jack Wilson, president of Toyota of Vallejo, north of San Francisco. "I see no reason other than we're still recovering from the recall situation. It's a factor, and we can't sit and not talk about it."

Top Gear To Debut On November 21 test 1-1

There really aren't enough hot cars on American television. Especially not when compared to Great Britain where several shows dedicated to the fascinating world of automobiles tantalize viewers. Here, we have to settle for the occassional sneak peek into Jay Leno's garage—just one more reason to hate that smarmy, big-chinned bastard.

Well, the History Channel is fixin' to fill the void of compelling car television with the importation of Great Britain's most famed auto show: Top Gear. This was announced back in the spring, but last week, History made it official with the debut date: Sunday, November 21 at 10 / 9 central.

From Video Game To Streets And Trails: Jeep Wrangler Black Ops Edition test 1-1

It's not that rare for cars, trucks, and vehicles of all types to be recreated in the virtual world for use in all forms of racing, war, and grand theft video games. In fact, some game franchises are based on virtual automobiles. What is rare is for vehicles to originate in a video game and make their way out to the real world thereafter. That's the case with the new Jeep Wrangler Black Ops Edition.

Sebring Historic Fall Classic 2010

Sebring Historic Fall Classic 2010 test 1-1

We have covered a lot of "Classic" events lately, the Sebring Historic Classic being one of the most exciting. Vintage racing machines from all eras converge on Sebring International Raceway this weekend for some "friendly" racing. This event is labled as an exhibition, but you wouldn't know it watching the action on track. Yesterday's action included Trans-Am Mustangs from every decade, 60s, 70s, 80's, and 90s. Porsches of all varieties were in attendance, as well as the big surprise, two Champion Audi R8s. Their presense not advertised prior to the race, I never imagined I would be given a chance to photograph these cars on track.

Here we have a brief teaser gallery; many more pictures, video and information from the 2010 Sebring Historic Fall Classic throughout the week.

Automakers Switch to New Innovative Engine Oil

Automakers Switch to New Innovative Engine Oil test 1-1

A new engine oil is gaining popularity (it's available from many automakers, such as Ford Motor Co., Chrysler Group, and General Motors) because of its ability to help engines run more efficiently and lessen the effects of wear. Those are important factors as automakers start to launch multitudes of fuel efficient small cars that have more horsepower than ever before.

Christmas Camaro Convertible Sells Out In Three Minutes Flat

Christmas Camaro Convertible Sells Out In Three Minutes Flat test 1-1

As detailed earlier this month, Neiman Marcus is offering a special-edition Chevy Camaro Convertible in its Christmas Book this year. Or at least that's what it was offering. After going on sale Tuesday at noon, the Camaro Convertible sold out in just three minutes.

It's hardly surprising that the Neimann's Camaro sold out, though the sheer speed by which it sold is a little shocking. The first 2011 Camaro Convertible to be available to buyers, the Neimann model is an SS-spec Camaro with 426-hp 6.2-liter V8 engine with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. It's biggest claim to fame isn't under the hood, however; it's around the exterior. The car features an absolutely stunning "Deep Bordeaux" paint scheme that changes tints depending upon the light conditions. That color is matched with barely-visible ghosted racing stripes, giving the special-edition convertible a truly unique look.

Toyota Issues Recall Concerning Brake Fluid Leaks

2006 Toyota Avalon test 2

Here we go again; Toyota announced today that it will recall 1.53 million vehicles that may be equipped with faulty braking systems. The recall cover models built between 2004 and 2006, and include several Lexus vehicles. The RX330, GS300, IS250, and IS350, as well as Toyota Highlander and Avalon models, are all included. Seems like I just took my Avalon in for a new steering rack . . .

Hurst Vehicles Invade The Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival

Hurst Vehicles Invade The Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival test 1-1

There were many show stoppers featured during the 2010 Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival. One car owner wowed us with not one, but two Hurst customized vehicles. Phillip Anderson is the proud owner of a 2009 Hurst Challenger and a 1969 Hurst Oldsmobile 442. Not only does he own some sweet Hurst metal, Mr. Anderson is one of two Hurst "Ambassadors at Large" in the world.

Built in Irvine, California and starting life as a 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8, Mr. Phillips' Challenger is the only Hurst Challenger in Florida, and it is the 15th of a 15 unit run. Can anyone say "rare"?! The Oldsmobile is completely stock (for a Hurst Olds, anyway) and is so mint the stickers are still on the tires.

These cars are by no means "Trailer Queens"; they were driven to and from the show, and Mr. Phillips enjoys the Challenger every chance he gets. Who wouldn't? I'd live in that car. The Challenger was a Christmas gift from Phillip's wife, Ruthelise Anderson. Along with everyone responsible for building the car, Mrs. Anderson signed the inside face of the trunklid. Her quote? "To my Phillip . . . From Ruthelise with Love!" A 572 bhp Muscle Car for Christmas?! That's some kind of love! The choice of 500+ horse hoon-mobile exhibits excellent taste as well.

Enjoy this gallery from the Lake Mirror Classic and look for an indepth article about these two beasts, Mr. Anderson, and everything Hurst, on Monday.
