Babes and Cars; Automakers Tap Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue For Advertising test 1-1

Hot, scantily clad ladies and hot cars go together like peanut butter and jelly. It's why they're both featured in men's magazines. It's why every auto show has its fair share of sexily dressed models on the floor. And it's why car pictorials often have a bikini-clad model stretched over a cherry-red hood.

Well, this month a few automakers are putting the synergy between hot girls and hot cars to work. Both Nissan and Lexus have partnered up with an annual classic in sexy ladies: the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

First U.S. Pagani Huayra Coming to the States

On: Fri, Feb 18, 2011 at 6:02PM | By: Chris Weiss

Pagani--Huayra test 2

The rumors are official: Pagani will be selling its all-new Huayra supercar in the United States, making it Pagani's first car in the market. Unlike the Zonda, the Huayra was developed with an adherence to U.S. emissions and safety regulations in mins, and it long seemed clear that the Italian supercar-maker was intent upon breaking into the ever-supercar-hungry U.S. market. Pagani made it official on Tuesday.

Pagani has yet to release pricing for the Huayra, but indications are that it will cost somewhere around 1 million euros when it hits the market. That translates to around $1.35 million by today's rates. Pagani plans to begin U.S. sales later this year.

Bentley Continental GT Sets World Speed Record on Ice

Bentley Continental GT Sets World Speed Record on Ice test 1-1

Well, here's a world record that I didn't even know they counted: world speed record on ice. And here's a car that I really wouldn't expect to own that record: a convertible Bentley Continental Supersports. But it does. Bentley announced a world record of 205.48 mph earlier this week. The Finland Traffic Police were on-hand to certify the speed and Guiness World Record officials ratified it. 205.5 mph on sheer ice sounds pretty terrifying, but makes for pretty nice bragging rights for Bentley.

Top Gear US Hosts test 2

The History Channel recently announced that the American version of the hit UK show ‘Top Gear’ would get another season in the United States. Since production will start this Spring, the new season should air sometime in late 2011. Although not simultaneously, the first season attracted 60 million overall spectators and brought the youngest age group of viewers to any series on The History Channel, ever. Production is a collaborative effort between BBC Worldwide and The History Channel. The show takes cars far beyond their manufacturer’s idea of ordinary use and, in doing so, tests the extreme limits of each auto. Top Gear is hosted by a trio of diverse talents: racing analyst Rutledge Wood, champion rally and drift racer Tanner Foust, and comedian and car buff Adam Ferrara. In addition to entertaining hosts, the show features crazy driving antics, super-car tests, reviews, and celebrity interviews. In short, if the US got another season of 'Jersey Shore' instead of Top Gear this author would be moving to the UK.

The Porsche Panamera To Get Longer

The Porsche Panamera To Get Longer test 1-1

For many red-blooded Porsche fans, the Panamera is already too big. After all, what kind of a true Porsche has four doors? But for actual Panamera buyers, the sedan isn't quite big enough, making for scrunched legs and uncomfortable rides in the back seat. And since the Panamera has been one of Porsche's most successful vehicles of late, Porsche is listening to the latter crowd. According to an Autocar report, Stuttgart is developing a stretched-out Panamera to appease voices in the North American and Chinese markets that feel the rear cabin is too small.

Ms. Evelyn test 2

Though the Volkswagen "The Force" ad and Chrysler "Imported from Detroit" ad gained the most buzz and love during and after the Super Bowl, a dark horse slipped in to take the spot for "most watched ad of all time", according to numbers from the Nielsen Company. The television ratings firm calculated the most watched commercial ever to be Chevy's "Ms. Evelyn".

Obama Administration Remains [Too] Optimistic On 1-Million Green Vehicle Goal

Obama Administration Remains [Too] Optimistic On 1-Million Green Vehicle Goal test 1-1

Wow, it must be fun to be a math expert. Because then you just get to ignore real numbers altogether and put out your own "expert" opinions based on nothing.

Just look at the math guys in the Obama adminstration. Back in 2008, President Obama made a campaign pledge to put a million electric vehicles and hybrids on the road by 2015. And like many a campaign pledge, it was catchy, sounded like a worthy goal, but as of a few years later, it isn't actually happening here in the real world. But, that's where the numbers guys come in! Now that we're halfway there, and anyone who's not in the administration is casting big doubts on the goal, the Energy Department has released some numbers that seem to defy reality. Not only is the auto industry on track to put a million green cars on the road by 2015, they're going to beat the original goal with 1.2 million or more!

Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition To Debut In Geneva

On: Mon, Feb 14, 2011 at 5:52PM | By: Chris Weiss

Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition To Debut In Geneva test 1-1

If you've been following the Lexus LFA, you might think that Lexus' special-edition, 50-run Nurburgring package made its public debut sometime last year. But if you've really been following the LFA closely, then you know that while Lexus announced the package and released a few photos nearly a year ago, it never actually brought the Nurburgring-spec LFA to an auto show for an official debut. Well, the company is finally making up for that, in announcing that the 2011 Geneva Motor Show will mark the official public debut of the suped-up special edition. Prepare to see some live pictures of the LFA under the intense lights of the showroom floor.

De Tomaso Is Back, Teases Geneva Launch

De Tomaso test 2

It looks like things remain on track for the De Tomaso Geneva comeback. In December, we heard word that De Tomaso was on track to bring an all new four-door to the Geneva Motor Show. While we were enthused to hear this news, we took it like you have to take any news concerning the comeback of a once-great, bankrupted, on-the-way-back car company. "We'll believe it when we see it" was the cliched stance that we had no choice but to take.

Fortunately, it looks likely that we will indeed be seeing it. De Tomaso will be presenting its first car in Geneva and has provided teaser images of the car.

Amelia Island test 2

For too long, bloggers and would-be "lifestyle" magazines have disseminated articles about the virtues of certain cities throughout the United States which have the best climate, outdoor activities, cost of living to average salary ratio, or worse…the highest population of singles over 65. Auto enthusiasts have waited too long for a list which actually gives them cities with useful amenities like ample gas stations, colorful car shows, or perhaps even a rich automotive historical heritage. This list is dedicated to seek out and explain the best, most exciting, cities for autonuts to visit or live. Viewer discretion is advised; not all content is suitable for every pocketbook.

Nissan To Accelerate Leaf Production, Fill Pre-Orders By Summer test 1-1

It looks like Chevy won't be the only manufacturer upping its green vehicle production. Nissan representatives said this week that the company plans on increasing Leaf production at its Japanese plant to get pre-ordered deliveries out as quickly as possible. Nissan intends to get all pre-ordered Leafs delivered to all customers by September.
