Bentley Nixing Entry Level Model, Leaning Toward Other Options

Bentley Nixing Entry Level Model, Leaning Toward Other Options test 1-1

Rumors of new Bentley models have been surfacing for months now and the latest indicates that Crewe has no plans of watering its ultra-premium line down with a sub-Continental, entry-level model. Instead, Bentley will work within its current price range to offer something new but equally high-performing and luxurious. What exactly that will be remains a mystery, but there are several possibilities.

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4: SOLD OUT test 1-1

Well, that didn't take long at all. A day after Lamborghini finally unveiled its newest V12 flagship, the Bull announced that the entire first-year production run of the Aventador LP700-4 has sold out. While Lamborghini didn't specificy the exact number of Aventadors it had sold, Motor Trend estimates the number around 900, or nearly a quarter of the entire 10-year production run of the Murcielago. Not bad for one day.

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Officially Revealed

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 test 2

Much like it did with its Sesto Elemento concept at the Paris Motor Show last fall, Lamborghini jumped the gun on the Geneva Motor Show and revealed its new car a day early. And in this case, we're not looking at a fanciful, proof-of-tech concept, but at the future face of the Lamborghini brand. It's the Aventador LP700-4, and it's finally here, in every angle you could wish for.

Most of the news is in the pictures below, since Lamborghini has been spilling the beans as to the specs of the Aventador for months now, but there are a few interesting updates. First, if you were hoping that Lamborghini was holding onto the Jota name, you can officially begin being disappointed. If it wasn't already clear from last week's leaked magazine spread, the Aventador LP700-4 name is here to stay.

Spyker Going All In On Saab, Sells Sports Car Business

Spyker Going All In On Saab, Sells Sports Car Business test 1-1

The odd Spyker/Saab saga continues. I always found the idea of a small supercar manufacturer purchasing an established brand to be rather counterintuitive: usually it's the large brand name purchasing the supercar maker (VW and Bugatti/Lamborghini, Fiat and Ferrari, and so on and so on). But the deal worked out, with Spyker saving Saab from extinction with a beyond-last-minute deal with GM last January. And things seem to be coming along quite nicely over in northern Europe, so nicely, in fact, that Spyker has abandoned its supercar business to focus on its new bread and butter.

New Bentley Continental To Go Supersports in Geneva

New Bentley Continental To Go Supersports in Geneva test 1-1

When Bentley announced that it had broken the world ice speed record in a tuned-up Continental Supersports, it indicated that it would celebrate the record with a special edition model. That model will be unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and, by Bentley's own admission, will be the most powerful Bentley ever. With the 2012 Bentley Continental GT introduced last fall, Geneva seems like the perfect time to present an all-new Continental Supersports. Some new rumors point to possible specs for the limited edtiion Super-Bentley.

BMW Launches "i" Line for Range of Alternative-Fuel Vehicles

BMW Launches "i" Line for Range of Alternative-Fuel Vehicles test 1-1

Can't say we didn't see it coming, but now it's official: BMW has rolled its Project i into an official "i" brand, which will comprise electric vehicles, hybrids, and other alternatively-fueled vehicles, like the Vision EfficientDynamics (i8). If BMW plays its cards right, its lowercase i may supplant Apple's (iPod, iPhone, iPad) as the epitome of technologically advanced, consumer-friendly design. But it'll take a lot to topple the big Mac.

Lamborghini Aventador Is Leaked to the World

Lamborghini Aventador Is Leaked to the World test 1-1

Car companies really need to learn a little more quickly. Sure, I understand that they want to build anticipation as much as possible. But if they don't want their big reveals to be scooped by big leaks, they need to start moving faster in the fast-paced, connected world of today. Otherwise, every major official reveal is bound to take a back seat to a major leak-reveal.

Like Pagani before it, Lamborghini was in the midst of a slow teaser campaign, revealing the Aventador LP700-4 piece by tantalizing piece—like a Raging Bull version of a burlesque dancer. But instead of focusing on new, official pictures of the Aventador's chassis (snooze), media folks are free to focus on something far more engaging: the first picture of a fully uncovered Aventador LP700-4.

Three New Bentleys In Store, Will Feature Porsche Platforms

Three New Bentleys In Store, Will Feature Porsche Platforms test 1-1

We know that Porsche has been tasked with developing the architecture for Volkswagen Group sports cars and large, premium sedans, and it looks like one of its first jobs under that responsibility will be to develop the underpinnings of several new Bentleys. According to a report by Auto Express, Bentley will be launching three new vehicles over the next several years, and they are all set to be planted on Porsche underpinnings.

Italian/British Love Child; Bertone's B99 Jaguar Concept

Italian/British Love Child; Bertone's B99 Jaguar Concept test 1-1

Jaguar is in the midst of an expansion. Last month, Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar's global brand director, put it bluntly when speaking with a representative from Inside Line: "The market has changed and it's no longer enough just to focus on sedans." It's still not 100 percent clear what cars Jaguar will expand to outside of traditional sedan offerings, but it is clear that they're taking the idea of new blood seriously.

Take the new B99 concept, for instance. Jag went outside its walls and worked in conjunction with Italian design firm Bertone on the concept, which will make its debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show next week. A bold two-door, the B99 gives a look at one possible direction for the future of the cat.

First Picture Of The De Tomaso SLC

First Picture Of The De Tomaso SLC test 1-1

One of the most interesting subplots of the Geneva Motor Show is the return of De Tomaso, a once highly-regarded sports car manufacturer that has been absent since 2004. In fact, had the new De Tomaso decided to come back with a revival of its hot, popular Pantera sports car, it might have been one of the biggest stories of the show. As it is, De Tomaso chose a four-door crossover for its comeback, so it'll have to take a back seat to flashier, more exciting Geneva cars like the Lamborghini Aventador and Pagani Huayra.

But we're still plenty excited to see De Tomaso back among the list of active Italian brands. And we're happy to get our eyes on the first photo of the SLC.

Babes and Cars; Automakers Tap Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue For Advertising

Babes and Cars; Automakers Tap Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue For Advertising test 1-1

Hot, scantily clad ladies and hot cars go together like peanut butter and jelly. It's why they're both featured in men's magazines. It's why every auto show has its fair share of sexily dressed models on the floor. And it's why car pictorials often have a bikini-clad model stretched over a cherry-red hood.

Well, this month a few automakers are putting the synergy between hot girls and hot cars to work. Both Nissan and Lexus have partnered up with an annual classic in sexy ladies: the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
