Toyota Asks For Class-Action Suit To Be Dismissed test 1-1

Toyota Motor Co. has requested that the judge in a California class-action lawsuit drop the charges of alleged defective parts causing unintended acceleration on the grounds that no electronic throttle defects have ever been identified. Toyota states that while claims have been made on behalf of all Toyota owners with electronic throttle control systems, “only a tiny fraction of the vehicles in question” have accelerated out of control.

Out of thousands of mechanical/technical examinations of Toyota vehicles that allegedly sped out of control, Toyota Motor Co. engineers and federal regulators have been unable to find any evidence of electronic defects that could possibly be the cause of unintended acceleration.

BMW, Porsche, Subaru All Post Sharp Sales Increase In October

2011 BMW X3 test 2

Subaru, BMW and Porsche posted sharp increases in October U.S. auto sales today as manufacturers appear poised to report a solid month. Analysts are saying that the October seasonally adjusted annual selling rate (SAAR) is expected to be the highest since the falsely inflated automotive sales numbers that occurred during the government Cash- For-Clunkers program that offered $3 billion in buying incentives in September of 2009.

According to AutoData Corporation; “The average of nine analysts' estimates compiled by Bloomberg is a SAAR of 11.9 million, slightly higher than September's 11.8 million. Excluding sales volume for September of 2009; 11.9 million is the highest sales reported by the automotive industry since September of 2008." Due to Election Day, many manufacturers have delayed the release of October sales numbers, but others such as BMW, Porsche, and Subaru have already posted huge gains in last months’ auto sales.

Bentley Engineers To Paddleboat Across The Atlantic For Charity

Bentley Engineers To Paddleboat Across The Atlantic For Charity test 1-1

What's the furthest possible vehicle from a Bentley that you could think of? I don't think that you can get much further than a paddleboat slowly pedaling across the giant hunk of landless blue known as the Atlantic Ocean. I suppose a paddleboat in the even larger hunk of blue known as the Pacific Ocean would be a little less luxurious, but you get the idea.

A pair of Bentley engineers are preparing for just that type of voyage. Not so much a rebellion against the luxurious, premium cars they work on every day, but an interesting if rather foreboding charity event, the engineers will be aiming to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

GM Closes 500 Dealerships Despite Congressional Objections test 1-1

In spite of the fact that approximately 24 congressional members (both Republican and Democratic) voiced objection, General Motors Co. proceeded to close the doors to 500 dealerships on October 31st,  as planned.

There were 22 house members asking automakers to hold off on termination of dealerships until the completion of a federal investigation that was implemented in order to address allegations of foul play that may have occurred during the process of selecting which dealerships would be forced to close shop.  Republican Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio and Rep. Steven LaTourette, congressman suggested that the Obama administration suspend the 500 GM dealerships scheduled to be terminated October 31st.  Senator Sherrod Brown, Democrat of Ohio was also one of the members of congress asking for a delay in dealer closings while waiting for the courts to rule on appeals filed by dealers involved in the recent arbitration hearings.

Auto Trader To Buy Kelley Blue Book test 1-1

Atlanta-based AutoTrader.com recently announced that the company plans to purchase Kelley Blue Book, along with its two sister companies, CDMdata and CDM Dealer Services. According to Jeremy Anwyl, CEO of Edmunds.com: "This will be a good thing for Kelley Blue Book." Anwyl stated, "AutoTrader.com started out as a listings service and is still very strong that way, while Kelley Blue Book is strong in used-car pricing." He noted that Kelley has been for sale, on and off, for the last 10 years.

The press release announcing the sale said that Auto Trader would continue to maintain Kelley Blue Book's independent position in the marketplace, with plans to keep its CEO, staff, and headquarters. Kelley Blue Book did not provide executives available for comment. Kelley Blue Book, long known as the “go-to source of automobile valuations,” will operate as a subsidiary of Auto Trader, which will keep its headquarters in Irvine, California.

Haunted Highways: A Series Exploring The Ghosts of Cars Gone By (Quickly) test 1-1

Although many will point to the 1960’s as the Golden Age of automobiles, when it’s all said and done, the 1990’s may be right up there with the best of automotive times this country has ever seen.  Dozens of exciting mobile masterpieces were available in all shapes and sizes, prices, and power ratings.  The car we have chosen today is one of the more visually impressive models to cruise own any road in America:  The Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4

We are going to focus specifically on the 1994-1999 models, because although the VR-4 was around from 1991, the real fun began with the updated 1994 model.  This techno-beast packed everything but the kitchen sink.  All wheel drive, all wheel steering, electronically tunable mufflers, and “Active Aero” bodywork including a tunable exhaust system and adjustable front and rear spoilers all made the Mitsubishi salesmen’s life very easy.  With 320 horsepower spinning the engine at 6000 rpm (and 315 lb-ft @ 2500 rpm) from it’s twin turbo DOHC 3.0 liter motor, this car could move out in a hurry.

Honda, Toyota, and Ford Lead Consumer Report Reliability Survey test 1-1

A recent annual survey compiled by Consumer Report magazine reveals that Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. are both at the top of the list for the most reliable vehicles of 2011, with Ford Motor Company at the top of the domestic automakers list and General Motors moving up in the ranks.

Many Chrysler vehicles (as well as European brands) have models that scored below average in reliability tests, according to the magazine.

83% of Chevy models were scored average or better in the reliability category according to the magazine.  That is a 50% better score for Chevrolet than last year’s results.

Civil War: Bentley Sues Axl Rose test 1-1

It would seem to me that leasing a $200,000 car to a rock star with a well-documented history of violent and erratic behavior is a bad idea. But for some reason, Bentley had to learn that the hard way. According to news reports, Bentley has a filed a civil lawsuit against Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose for unpaid bills and damage to a leased Flying Spur.

Top Gear To Debut On November 21 test 1-1

There really aren't enough hot cars on American television. Especially not when compared to Great Britain where several shows dedicated to the fascinating world of automobiles tantalize viewers. Here, we have to settle for the occassional sneak peek into Jay Leno's garage—just one more reason to hate that smarmy, big-chinned bastard.

Well, the History Channel is fixin' to fill the void of compelling car television with the importation of Great Britain's most famed auto show: Top Gear. This was announced back in the spring, but last week, History made it official with the debut date: Sunday, November 21 at 10 / 9 central.

Automakers Switch to New Innovative Engine Oil test 1-1

A new engine oil is gaining popularity (it's available from many automakers, such as Ford Motor Co., Chrysler Group, and General Motors) because of its ability to help engines run more efficiently and lessen the effects of wear. Those are important factors as automakers start to launch multitudes of fuel efficient small cars that have more horsepower than ever before.

Toyota Issues Recall Concerning Brake Fluid Leaks

2006 Toyota Avalon test 2

Here we go again; Toyota announced today that it will recall 1.53 million vehicles that may be equipped with faulty braking systems. The recall cover models built between 2004 and 2006, and include several Lexus vehicles. The RX330, GS300, IS250, and IS350, as well as Toyota Highlander and Avalon models, are all included. Seems like I just took my Avalon in for a new steering rack . . .
