Tesla Model X Coming In February

Tesla Model X Coming In February test 2

Last August, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla planned to introduce a concept version of its next car--the Model X crossover--before the end of the year. Well, guess what? The champagne is drained; the confetti is cleaned and all but the most monumental hangovers have cleared. And we still haven't seen the Model X.  Musk cleared this up in saying that the new concept will make its debut next month.

In a statement from Musk published on tech blog GigaOM, Musk confirmed a February 9 unveiling. He didn't specifically say the Chicago Auto Show, but given that the show starts that day, it seems like a highly likely venue.

Musk didn't reveal any new details on the Model X, but it's known to be a crossover built on the same platform as the Model S. It will offer three rows of seating.

Acura Unveils Its New NSX test 2

The Acura NSX has long stood as the ultimate Honda vehicle. Unfortunately, for over half a decade, it's stood as but a memory because Honda stopped building it in 2005.

As of today, the NSX is back. Or at least a concept version previewing what should become a production model brings the NSX nameplate back to Acura. As anticipated, Acura unveiled an NSX concept on the first day of the North American International Auto Show.

Toyota NS4 Plug-In Concept Teaser Video test 2

Toyota announced last month that it will be bringing a new plug-in hybrid concept to the Detroit Motor Show. While the automaker has left most of the details for the show, it has released a new minute-long teaser video of what it calls the NS4 concept.

The NS4 will showcase the latest green conceptual goings on at Toyota while simultaneously displaying the latest sporty design language. Toyota has called the car an "advanced plug-in hybrid concept" but has not gotten into any details of its powertrain.

GM Issues Solutions For Volt Fire Hazards

GM Issues Solutions For Volt Fire Hazards test 2

On November 25, the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration opened up an investigation on the Chevy Volt's battery. The investigation was in response to a Volt that had crashed during NHTSA testing in May and subsequently caught fire, an occurrence that was attributed to leaking coolant from the lithium-ion battery. Subsequent NHTSA testing also led to fire, causing the agency to open an official investigation on the issue.

The NHTSA's investigation remains ongoing, but Chevy has offered a solution to the issue.

Chevy Volt: Worst Product Of 2011?

Chevy Volt: Worst Product Of 2011? test 2

Just before the new year rolled around, media outlets 'round the world whiled away the slow holiday hours by putting together all forms of "best of" and "worst of" lists. Sometimes lists were spot on and others were completely insufferable. A report called the "Worst Product Flops of 2011" is a little of both. The report was published by 24/7 Wall Street and republished by Yahoo Finance, making it visible for millions. While the report pinpointed some seriously failed products, it treated the Chevy Volt rather unfairly.

The Volt was number three on the list and made it for failing to meet sales expectations. The article said of the Volt: "Indeed, sales for the vehicle have been consistently low. Only 125 models were sold in July 2011. This was after GM spokeswoman Michelle Bunker was quoted as saying that the Volt was “virtually sold out” due to its popularity — a statement later shown to be misguided."

Last Tesla Roadster Rolls Off The Line test 2

Long ago, Tesla announced that it would end production on its groundbreaking Roadster by the end of 2011. And it really meant the end of 2011. Just days before the new year, Tesla built the very last Roadster.

The Roadster is one of five Final Edition Roadster models for the North American market and one of 15 worldwide. The model didn't receive any performance modifications but got a special exterior with Atomic Red paint, dual silver racing stripes and anthracite aluminum wheels.

2012 Toyota Prius Gets A 3 Percent Price Hike test 2

Toyota has increased pricing on 2012 Prius models. Prices increase across the line, ranging from about 2 percent to just over 4 percent. Despite the increases, the Toyota Prius continues to offer one of the market's best combinations of fuel economy and price.

The base 2012 Prius Two starts at $24,760, with $760 destination charge. That's an increase of $480 over last year's Prius Two. The range-topping Prius Five, meanwhile, starts at $30,565, an increase of $1,015 over the 2011 model.

Cheeky Double-Deckers Return To Square Mile

New Routemaster test 2

Back in 2005 the charismatic red double-decker buses of yore were removed from the streets, and simultaneously replaced by post-apocalypse reminiscent modern articulated buses (aka bendy buses). Indeed, anyone who has spent some time driving in a large city like London will tell you the world has surely ended if a 60 ft. bus has become a practical public transportation solution – nevermind those bi-articulated monsters which peak around 82 feet of double trailer insanity.

Fortunately, however, London’s current Mayor, Boris Johnson, committed to replace bendy buses with a transit vehicle Londoners would warmly welcome: an all-new, greatly improved hybrid diesel-electric red double-decker.

All Electric Jeep Grand Cherokee By AMP

All Electric Jeep Grand Cherokee By AMP test 2

Auto tuning must be among the least green endeavors on Earth. These tuners take gas-powered cars that are often among the least efficient and dirtiest on the planet and make them even more powerful (and more dirty). But not every single tuner thrives on increasing displacement and adding pressure charging toward outrageous output figures. Ohio-based tuner Amp actually makes cars cleaner. The tuner's latest endeavor is a fully electric Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I'd love to enjoy the efficiency of an electric vehicle, especially since I don't drive often or far. Problem is, I live in the mountains and the winter gets cold and snowy. A compact, FWD electric car isn't going to cut it. The Toyota Rav4 EV, which will launch in the next couple of years, looks promising, but what I'd really like to see is a fully capable all-electric SUV. And I can't think of a better model than the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Euro-Spec Up! Headed For Production

VW Up! test 2

Back in 2007, VW unveiled the Up! concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Americans giggled condescendingly in delight, unable to appreciate the benefits of minicar ownership. Well, now we’re waste deep in a global recession and stuck paying gasoline bills on cars which rarely summit 25 miles per gallon.

Who’s laughing now? Although currently slotted for a European production run, VW’s Up! will officially go on sale in February of 2012. The company has yet to specify whether not the Up! will drive under the good ole’ red, white, and blue, but microcar fans can at least wait with some level of enthusiasm in knowing this production vehicle looks good…really good.
