Ford Is Not Idle on Green Technology test 1-1

Ford has decided to be more aggressive in the reduction of emissions in its vehicles. The auto maker is developing more and better technology to help achieve this goal. The latest offering is called Auto Stop-Start and it has the ability to shut off your engine when you are standing at a stop light, rather than letting it idle. Your engine springs back to life when you release the brake. There’s no information on how effective this is for people like me. I tend to “creep” at stop lights, especially if the car in front of me eases forward. I am overwhelmed with the desire to follow suit.

Audi will use the upcoming 2014 North American International Auto Show to showcase a new two-door sports crossover design. It appears to be more of a styling exercise than a production-car preview, but the car does have appeal and versatility, so the future will tell.

The Tesla Model S has had its share of news coverage. The recent engine fires have been everywhere from television to You Tube. It has made for some pretty bad press for Tesla. Model S owners aren’t too happy either. Shareholders have shown their disgust. However, the news isn’t all bad. The Model S is available in Germany and the government there has done its own investigation.

Motorcycles: Greener Than Cars

Motorcycles: Greener Than Cars test 1-1

The Leaf, the Volt, smart cars… the electric car industry has produced a variety of vehicles that most of us are familiar with. They reduce carbon emissions and lower your fuel bill. Automobile manufacturers are not the only ones thinking about the environment though. Of course, it’s not headline news that even a gas-powered motorcycle does the same thing as a car, on a smaller scale. However, the benefits to the atmosphere and your wallet are even greater if you can combine the two. An electric motorcycle leaves one of the smallest carbon footprints possible in the field of transportation. There are quite a few out there doing all kinds of duties. Sadly, we don’t hear much about them.

Coca-Cola Makes Ford Greener test 1-1

I don’t know about where you live, but here in central Florida most of us have been issued special trash cans to be used with the new garbage trucks. They have special handles that allow the truck to pick them up without human intervention. And they are huge. At least compared to the one we used to have. I remember thinking when we got it that we would never fill it up in a week. I was wrong. I am amazed at the amount of garbage we can produce. On a global scale it’s a problem. We simply don’t have room for all the trash human beings generate. So we recycle what we can. But what can you really do with all those plastic bottles, besides make new plastic bottles?

New Diesel Rivals Electric test 1-1

There is a global awareness of the need to reduce pollution. One issue is automobile emissions. It has been in the news for decades and the United States has taken the electric path in answer. Overseas the response has leaned more toward diesel cars. The US government has put emission standards in place that run through the year 2025 which make diesel cars almost impossible to produce here. Also, diesels are not popular due to the price of fuel.

Tesla Working on a Pickup Truck? test 1-1

We've heard that Tesla has a number of cars in the pipeline, including the Model X crossover, a sub-Model S sedan and a new roadster. This is by far the strangest item on the docket, however: Tesla said this week that it's planning a pickup truck.

Nissan Reveals Radical BladeGlider Concept test 1-1

Next week, both the Tokyo and LA Auto Shows kick off. As such, we may as well just call this week "New Car/Concept Preview Week." One of the most radical concepts of either show is sure to be the BladeGlider concept from Nissan, a triangular 1 + 2 electric sports car that "shifts the engineering paradigm."

Solar Vehicles; Here Comes the Sun

Solar Vehicles; Here Comes the Sun test 1-1

Police investigators have files in their offices, which are labeled “cold”. Anyone who watches crime dramas knows this. If a case is unable to be solved it sits and waits for new information to be uncovered or new technology to be invented to help find out ‘whodunit”. Why don’t car manufacturers have cold cases? You know, someone who looks at great ideas from the past that were not able to be realized at the time.
