Pagani Releases Third Teaser test 1-1

The car codenamed C9 and hopefully named Deus Venti (sounds a helluva lot better than 'Huayra') has been spending much time in front of the camera. Or, more accurately, the camera has been spending much time zooming in on various aspects of the car. Pagani released its third teaser video of its upcoming flagship this week, giving us our best look yet at the soon-to-debut, 700-hp hypercar.

Jaguar Executive Confirms Expansion Plans, C-X75 In the Mix test 1-1

It seems that Jaguar is really intent upon expansion. Confirming some of the details of an Autocar report last month, global brand director Adrian Hallmark put it quite simply in a discussion with Inside Line: "The market has changed and it's no longer enough just to focus on sedans." That comment mimics an aside that Hallmark made to Autocar when he said that Jaguar needs to stop being a saloon-based company.

Bugatti Aiming For 270 MPH With Veyron Successor test 1-1

Well, isn't this interesting. Not three weeks after a report indicates that Volkswagen is planning on winding down Bugatti Super Sports coupes (aka Veyron) in favor of a more profitable model (aka a four-door coupe like the 16C Galibier), a report from Auto Express suggests that the automaker is preparing to build a Veyron successor. Not only will the Veyron live on, according to the site, but it will get even more powerful and extreme.

Dodge Expects Next Viper To Compete For Corvette And Porsche Sales test 1-1

“Drop-dead beautiful” is a phrase being used by Chrysler to describe their upcoming 2013 Dodge Viper. If Chrysler has their way, this new Viper is going to cause some serious headaches for GM’s Corvette and Porsche SE’s cars. Unfortunately, interested buyers are going to have to wait until 2012 for the next incarnation of the Viper to hit showroom floors. Until then it’s all about creating the sizzle for the steak.

Porsche 918 Gets A Healthier Engine And Harder Top test 1-1

It's not quite the all new, high-end supercar that we had hoped for, but leading up to the Detroit Auto Show, we expected Porsche to deliver a hard top version of the 918 Spyder Hybrid. And deliver Porsche did. Stuttgart debuted an all-new, race-ready 918 hard-top that packs even more power than the original concept from last year. And the 918 RSR looks pretty hot too.

Mercedes Officially Going Electric With the SLS AMG E-Cell test 1-1

Originally introduced last summer, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell is officially go, widening the very slim all-electric supercar market. Mercedes announced the news on Tuesday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and tied it into the 125th birthday of the [Benz-invented] automobile.

The SLS AMG E-Cell (which will undoubtedly come in some more flattering colors than that flourescent yellow job) (I hope) puts an electric spin onto Mercedes' gullwinged supercar, delivering 525 hp and 649 lb-ft of torque through a series of four electric motors. The motors are powered by a 48 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Audi Building A9 Sports Coupe, May Share Platform With Lamborghini Estoque test 1-1

A report out of Autocar last week points to the possibility of a new, range-topping, sporty Audi four-door coupe: the A9. The car would serve as a high-end, sports alternative to the A8 and would be positioned against competitors like the Porsche Panamera and Mercedes-Benz CL. While the potential of an A9 is good news of and in itself, it also brings some exciting implications for another VW brand: Lamborghini.

According to the report, Audi hasn't decided on the car and executives are still working up a business case for the model. One of the elements of that business case is the potential to share much of the platform—namely the aluminium spaceframe and parts of the of the modular longitudinal architecture—with Lamborghini for a sedan based on the Estoque concept.

Ferrari Doubles Sales In China

Ferrari Doubles Sales In China test 1-1

In announcing its sales numbers for 2010, Ferrari indicated that year-over-year sales doubled in China to nearly 300 models. Ferrari, which has sold cars in China for only six years, now considers the country one of its top 5 international markets (when Hong Kong and Taiwan sales are included). China's consumption of premium sports and luxury cars is a reminder of the growing economic position of the country .

Ferrari's numbers mimic numbers of other premium brands. Last month, the Detroit News reported that Germany luxury car sales in China were up by 40 percent in 2010. Increased global demand, of which China was the largest part, inspired German automakers like BMW and Mercedes to shorten holiday breaks and keep the assembly lines running. Audi led the way in China's luxury car explosion.

Pagani C9 Official Name: Huayra?

Pagani C9 Official Name: Huayra? test 1-1

C9 is just so easy to say. Apparently too easy. For as long as we've known Pagani's prototype, it's been known that 'C9' may just be a prototype name and not the actual production car name. A recent report sheds some light on what the new Pagani may be called, and it's a lot harder to read/say than C9; it's the Huayra. Mysterious, but not the most intuitive word to speak or write—not in English, at least.

Rare Ferrari FXX Evoluzione Goes Up For Sale This Month test 1-1

It's been a good couple of weeks to be an ultra-wealthy rare Ferrari collector. Earlier this week, we reported that a one-of-a-kind Ferrari Enzo prototype is up for sale, and today word of another rare, Enzo-era Ferrari. The 2006 Ferrari FXX Evoluzione will be going up for auction on January 21. The car is part of the collection of the late Benny Caiola, an Italian immigrant turned real estate mogul. The collection, which will be auctioned off by Gooding & Company, includes 11 cars altogether.

Caiola's collection has been hailed as one of the largest and finest collection of Ferraris in the world. And no car is finer than the FXX Evoluzione. The car is a track-only limited-edition based on the Enzo, and features a 6.2-liter version of the Enzo's V12 engine that puts out 789 horses. After Caiola's FXX was retrofitted with the Evoluzione package, the car put out 860 horses. The auction house describes it as Ferrari's most advanced production car ever.
