Ferrari Does Full Web Unveil of the FF

Ferrari Does Full Web Unveil of the FF test 1-1

Our two favorite Italian supercar makers are kind of taking opposite strategies in terms of their Geneva debuts. Lamborghini has been rather stingy with pictures, teasing the Aventador LP700-4 piece by piece, even in the face of major leaks. Meanwhile, Ferrari has been busy providing full pictures and video of its FF concept.

Last month, the Prancing Horse introduced the FF via a web event, and offered the first pictures. Then, it released some video and more pictures. And now it has held an official web debut in Maranello (apparently that's not what last month's event was?) and offered more pictures and more video. This time, the event was more like an auto-show reveal with a stage, audience of 700 Ferrari VIPs, speakers, and several live FFs—which makes me wonder: what's left for Geneva?

Gumpert Tornante Teased...Maybe?

Gumpert Tornante Teased...Maybe? test 1-1

Supercar pictures are just falling out of the sky this week. With a big show like Geneva coming up next week, it's not that surprising, but it sure is fun trying to piece it all together.

This latest photo appears to be a teaser of the Gumpert Tornante by Touring. Only no one can seem to trace it back to Gumpert, leaving us to assume its the Tornante without any confirmation. But, looking at the large curves in front and back connected by a straight belt line, and the rear-orientated cabin, it certainly resembles the first Tornante picture. So we'll just assume that's what we're looking at. Since Gumpert already revealed more of the car in its initial released rendering, we're thinking maybe this is a teaser that it never used.

Still Leaking: The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Profile Photos

The Lamborghini Aventador test 2

Well, I'm not too surprised to see some more Lamborghini Aventador pictures. When the first scanned magazine picture leaked on Tuesday, we had more than a hunch that either more pictures from that magazine spread or a similar one were going to leak, or that Lamborghini was going to do an early reveal the way that Pagani did with the Huayra and Lamborghini itself did with the Sesto Elemento. Lamborghini hasn't come clean yet, but a few more pictures from the same Evo Croatia issue have leaked out. We now see the Aventador from the side and 3/4 profile in addition to the front.

New Bentley Continental To Go Supersports in Geneva

New Bentley Continental To Go Supersports in Geneva test 1-1

When Bentley announced that it had broken the world ice speed record in a tuned-up Continental Supersports, it indicated that it would celebrate the record with a special edition model. That model will be unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and, by Bentley's own admission, will be the most powerful Bentley ever. With the 2012 Bentley Continental GT introduced last fall, Geneva seems like the perfect time to present an all-new Continental Supersports. Some new rumors point to possible specs for the limited edtiion Super-Bentley.

RUF Tunes the Porsche 911 to All-Electric

RUF Tunes the Porsche 911 to All-Electric test 1-1

Last week, we reported that there are now three electric Boxster prototypes in testing. And not a full week later, there are three electric 911 Carrera prototypes in testing. The only difference is the Boxsters were an actual Porsche project, and the electric 911s come from German tuning house RUF.

Tuners typically focus on making cars meaner, bigger, and more powerful, but RUF has a different type of tune in mind: a more environmentally conscious 911. RUF plans to build a test fleet of 10 electric 911s—known as "eRUFs", in the first half of this year. Each model will be equipped with one of three electric powertrains.

Lamborghini Aventador Is Leaked to the World

Lamborghini Aventador Is Leaked to the World test 1-1

Car companies really need to learn a little more quickly. Sure, I understand that they want to build anticipation as much as possible. But if they don't want their big reveals to be scooped by big leaks, they need to start moving faster in the fast-paced, connected world of today. Otherwise, every major official reveal is bound to take a back seat to a major leak-reveal.

Like Pagani before it, Lamborghini was in the midst of a slow teaser campaign, revealing the Aventador LP700-4 piece by tantalizing piece—like a Raging Bull version of a burlesque dancer. But instead of focusing on new, official pictures of the Aventador's chassis (snooze), media folks are free to focus on something far more engaging: the first picture of a fully uncovered Aventador LP700-4.

Rolls Royce to Launch Electric Prototype in Geneva test 1-1

You know electrics are going to be the wave of the future when luxury-boat players like Rolls Royce start getting involved. Rolls will present what it's calling the world's first battery-powered ultra-luxury vehicle in the form of a Phantom EV prototype code-named 102EX. And like nearly every other new vehicle and concept of late, it will launch at the Geneva Motor Show.

Three New Bentleys In Store, Will Feature Porsche Platforms

Three New Bentleys In Store, Will Feature Porsche Platforms test 1-1

We know that Porsche has been tasked with developing the architecture for Volkswagen Group sports cars and large, premium sedans, and it looks like one of its first jobs under that responsibility will be to develop the underpinnings of several new Bentleys. According to a report by Auto Express, Bentley will be launching three new vehicles over the next several years, and they are all set to be planted on Porsche underpinnings.

Porsche Panamera S Hybrid Gets Two Video Parts

Porsche Panamera S Hybrid test 2

To introduce a radical idea to hybrid technology. That, in a nutshell, is why Porsche is building the Panamera S Hybrid. Or, at least, that's what Porsche's marketing team came up with for a new Panamera promo video. Which brings me to another point: there's a new Panamera S Hybrid promo video. In fact, there are two. After announcing the car last week, Porsche is now on to advertising the Panamera S Hybrid before its 2011 Geneva Motor Show debut.

Italian/British Love Child; Bertone's B99 Jaguar Concept

Italian/British Love Child; Bertone's B99 Jaguar Concept test 1-1

Jaguar is in the midst of an expansion. Last month, Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar's global brand director, put it bluntly when speaking with a representative from Inside Line: "The market has changed and it's no longer enough just to focus on sedans." It's still not 100 percent clear what cars Jaguar will expand to outside of traditional sedan offerings, but it is clear that they're taking the idea of new blood seriously.

Take the new B99 concept, for instance. Jag went outside its walls and worked in conjunction with Italian design firm Bertone on the concept, which will make its debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show next week. A bold two-door, the B99 gives a look at one possible direction for the future of the cat.

Mercedes SLK; One (S)(L)ic(K) Ride

Mercedes SLK; One (S)(L)ic(K) Ride test 1-1

Even though it’s been around for nearly 15 years, the Mercedes Benz SLK is still a good looking car after all these years. Whether it is the early Kompressor version or the excitable AMG SLK55 of only a short while ago, the SLK has become a staple in the sports car market. For 2012, Mercedes has unveiled the third generation of its Boxster-fighter and it is a beauty.

Taking cues from the drop-dead gorgeous SLS AMG halo car, the SLK continues the traditional long hood, short deck proportions that are the foundation for any attractive sporting car. The nose of the new SLK is more upright than the outgoing pint-sized SLR McLaren model. Keen eyes will notice not just the SLS inspiration when the roof is up, but when the SLK goes top-down, an SL model resemblance will start to make itself known.
