Porsche GT3 RS 4.0: The Purest Purist's Car Ever.

On: Fri, Jun 3, 2011 at 11:19AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

Porsche GT3 RS 4.0 test 2

So, maybe you’re a sports car purist. You want things simple, but deadly efficient on the road and track. You know that a low curb weight is just as important as the amount of power you are putting to the ground, so that means no turbo, no hefty all-wheel drive setup, and no silly self-shifting techno-crazed semi-automated, triple-clutch, paddle-shifted nonsense. Your dream car should have a clutch, and a shifter, and should be powered by a naturally-aspirated, high revving hero under the hood bred from pure racing DNA, and that's about it.

Trident 2020? Maserati GT Garbin Design Study

rident 2020? Maserati GT Garbin Design Study test 2

Here's a little look at what the James Bond of the future could be driving around while trying to foil plots of international consequence. Actually, looking at that menacing face and those bright blue LEDs, it might be a better ride for Batman or a similarly shadowy crusader. Whoever you envision behind the wheel, it's a pretty interesting design.

The Maserati GT Garbin, as it's called, is a joint project thesis from three students—Jaime Cervantes, Andrea Coccia, and Chetan Rajput—for their Master's degrees in Transportation and Automobile Design from Politecnico di Milano. The recent graduates had the backing of Fiat in preparing the design.

Mercedes' "Secret" SLS AMG Roadster Goes "Official"

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster test 2

If you’ve been on the edge of your seat waiting until Mercedes-Benz got off the pot and finally showed “official” images of its gullwing-less neo/wannabe gullwing, your wait is over.

Seems they really don’t want to actually sell the things, however, as evidenced by what’s actually in the official pics: a white-on-white-with-just-a-few-tiny-non-white-bits car on a similarly-shaded stage.

Unless they all went color blind after working on the eye-searing E-Cell and couldn’t help it, can you think of a reason for using a color even Maytag stays away from these days?

The Aussie Supercar: Joss JP1

Joss JP1 test 2

Supercars just seem to be coming from every corner and crevice of the globe lately. An Australian supercar isn't nearly as surprising a development as a Polish supercar, but it does add one more nationality to the supercar ranks.

Melbourne-based Joss announced plans to introduce the latest prototype of its 500-hp JP1 supercar, along with a computer generation of the production model, at the 2011 Australian International Motor Show in July.

Maserati To Spin Off Alfa 4 C

Maserati To Spin Off Alfa 4 C test 2

The small, sexy Alfa Romeo 4C that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show was apparently so striking that it made siblings over at Fiat jealous. Because Maserati reportedly wants a 4C of its own. Rumors are pointing to a possible Maserati spin-off based on the delicious, cherry-red, two-seat roadster platform of the 4C. A more powerful, tridented 4C? Sounds like a win-win.

BMW M1 On The Way?

On: Tue, May 31, 2011 at 8:01AM | By: Chris Weiss

BMW M1 Concept test 2

Well, here's one of the juiciest rumors that we've heard in... well, since the last M1 rumor: BMW is reportedly considering a possible M1 revival (again). Far from a done deal, the rumors indicate that BMW is at the very initial stages of such a possibility, working on a few sketches of the design. So, even if you take the Internet-based rumor at face value, there's still a long way to go before we ever see an M1. And still a lot of time for BMW to can the project.

The original M1, which was produced by BMW from 1978 to 1981, is, to this day, the ultimate (and pretty much only) BMW supercar. Developed with the help of Lamborghini, the two-seater used a mid-mounted 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine to power the rear wheels. It is a true Bimmer icon.

Aston Martin V12 Zagato Racer

Aston Martin V12 Zagato Racer test 2

As it detailed last week, Aston Martin is racing its all-new V12 Zagato in the VLN race at Nurburgring this weekend. Of course, it's not racing the street version shown at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este last weekend; it's racing a modified, track version of the car. In other words, we have a whole new Zagato-Aston sports car to ogle.

More Evidence Of Lamborghini Sedan Straight From Winkelmann

On: Fri, May 27, 2011 at 4:39PM | By: Chris Weiss

Lamborghini Sedan test 2

Lamborghini should really just end the charade already. It's becoming pretty obvious that the Bull is building a sedan. Reports of the likelihood of a Lambo four-door have been getting stronger and stronger since last year. And those reports aren't originating from "insiders" or "those familiar with the matter," they're coming straight from Lambo CEO Stephan Winkelmann. Just admit it already: you're building a sedan.

The latest inkling: Winkelmann recently said at the Reuters Global Luxury and Fashion Summit that Lamborghini will launch a third car and that it will be an "every day" model.

The Mid-Engined Aston: HBH Teases New One-Off Supercar

The Mid-Engined Aston: HBH Teases New One-Off Supercar test 1-1

Danish design firm HBH has a history of helping the development of limited edition supercars. Our personal favorite is the in-your-face, 1,100-hp Zenvo ST1. And even though $1.2 million will be extremely rare, HBH has decided that it's just not rare enough. The design firm is moving toward becoming a sort of bespoke supercar-maker, a place where billionaires can stop in to commission completely unique, multi-million-dollar supercar-singles.

The company is already hard at work on the first of such supercars, a car that is essentially a mid-engined Aston Martin V-12 Vantage. A single teaser picture gives us a look at what to expect.

Mercedes May Develop Uber-CLS To Compete With Continental GT

On: Fri, May 27, 2011 at 1:47PM | By: Chris Weiss

Mercedes Uber-CLS test 2

Mercedes is considering a move up the high-performance luxury sedan market in the form of a Bentley Continental GT/Flying Spur rival. Interestingly, it looks like the sporty four-door, if it comes to fruition, will be branded a Mercedes-Benz rather than a Maybach, Daimler's traditional ultra-premium Bentley rival.

A Polish Supercar? No really, A Polish Supercar.

A Polish Supercar? No really, A Polish Supercar. test 1-1

Despite all of the jokes that are certain to fly when the greater world gets a hold of the idea of a Polish supercar (and its Lamborghini-mirroring design), Arrinera Automotive is preparing to launch just such a vehicle. The company has released a series of renderings showing the car.

Arrinera plans to officially unveil the car in June, but until then, it's given us a pretty complete look via a series of renderings. And the look we get indicates that the car is going to essentially be a V8-powered faux-Lambo. It looks uncannily similar to the Murcielago, so much so that we swear that all they did was swap out the V12 engine for something new.
