Eterniti Motors To Beat Bentley, Lamborghini To Ultra-Premium SUV

On: Wed, Apr 25, 2012 at 4:15PM | By: Chris Weiss

Eterniti Artemis test 2

We thought that either Bentley or Lamborghini would be the first to cut ribbon on the new generation of ultra-premium super SUVs. But while those two VW brands are still mired in the concept stages, a small boutique firm is getting ready to launch what it calls the "world's first super SUV."

The Eterniti Artemis isn't quite in production dress at the Beijing Motor Show, but it is in its final prototype stages and should be ready for production by this summer. The firm plans to beat Bentley, Maserati and Lamborghini to the ultra-premium SUV market.

2013 Mercedes SL63: Bring On All Challengers!

2013 Mercedes SL63 test 2

The history of Mercedes SL has been a long and storied line of automobiles that have brought joy and envy to millions over the last two decades. When Mercedes decided to let its performance division have a crack at the SL, things only got better and worse, depending on which side of the tax bracket you happen to be on. For 2013, there is even more good or bad news. Mercedes-Benz is introducing a new SL63, and it is a car that takes luxury performance to a whole new level.

Although most people would automatically assume that BMW is Mercedes' biggest competitor, when it comes to a car like the SL63, it's more apples to oranges. The main competition the SL63 faces comes from companies like Aston Martin or Jaguar. These are big cars that focus on equal parts luxury and power, and the SL63 is packing plenty of both.

Ferrari Updates HY-KERS... Here Comes New Enzo

Ferrari Updates HY-KERS test 2

For years, we've been hearing rumor after rumor about the upcoming Ferrari Enzo successor. Codenamed the F70, the new flagship, road-legal-F1 supercar is being readied for a 2013 debut. At the Beijing Motor Show, Ferrari provided a sneak preview of the powertrain that will drive the new Enzo.

While Ferrari didn't come out and say the updated HY-KERS system is the mechanical underpinnings of the F70, it's not too hard to deduct. The F70 will be the first Ferrari hybrid, and the new HY-KERS system is displayed in the mid-rear engine layout that the F70 will use.

Lexus Building A $1 Million Bugatti Competitor?

Lexus Building A $1 Million Bugatti Competitor? test 2

We've been hearing a lot of Japanese sports car rumors of late, but this is by far the weirdest of the bunch. A report this week has Lexus building a super-LFA supercar that could compete with notables like the Pagani Huayra and upcoming McLaren P12.

Now, Lexus already has the LFA, a $375,000 supercar that's basically the most impressive, exclusive supercar ever to come out of Japan. It's also more than enough supercar for a company that's next most expensive car is more than $250,000 cheaper. So why in the world would it build an even higher end, more expensive car?

Bugatti Shows Grand Sport Vitesse In New Video

Bugatti Shows Grand Sport Vitesse In New Video test 2

Some cars just demand video action, and any car defined by 'world's fastest' anything is definitely one such car. Bugatti debuted the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse at the Geneva Motor Show last month, and it has released a new promo video showing the world's fastest convertible in action.

If you missed it, the Grand Sport Vitesse is essentially the convertible version of the Veyron Super Sport, the world's fastest car with a record of 267.8 mph. The Vitesse features the same beefed up quad turbochargers that push the W-16 engine to 1,200-hp and 1,106 lb.-ft. of torque. Bugatti strengthened the standard Grand Sport design to handle the extra power and speed.

Fantastic, Valuable Cars Sold At Barrett-Jackson's Palm Beach Auction - These Freaks Sold There Too

Now other people are going to cover the high points of Barrett-Jackson’s April 5-7 Palm Beach sale, so I won’t bore you with talk of customs, resto-mods or (half)million-dollar-sales. Instead I’m going to shine a light on the auction’s seamy underbelly to expose the creatures known as “filler” lots.

But I’m not going to bother with the late-model lease-returns and beat-up aged exotics that tend to occupy 75 percent of any B-J sale’s slate. No, I’m going right down into the bilge of the USS BJPB to show you six of the freakiest lots they had on offer (or seven, if you count the trailer).

Is everybody wearing their protective gear? Thenbad pun cominglet’s dive in…

The SRT Viper Has Arrived

On: Fri, Apr 6, 2012 at 2:35PM | By: Chris Weiss

2013 SRT Viper test 2

We've sifted through rumor after rumor for years. We've seen a name change and logo update. We've analyzed spy shots and legitimate teaser photos. We've tried to reconcile conflicting reports. And it's all led up to this. It was worth the wait.

We speak, of course, of the 2013 Viper, one of the most anticipated car debuts of 2012. The last-generation Viper drove into the sunset in 2010, leaving nothing but rumors in its wake.

Fisker Shows Atlantic Small Sedan

On: Thu, Apr 5, 2012 at 2:07PM | By: Chris Weiss

Fisker Atlantic test 2

While it may take some time to actually get it to market, Fisker revealed a design prototype of its next car - the small sedan built under the Project Nina umbrella. Called the Atlantic, the sedan is every bit as sporty and aggressive as the Karma. There's not much not to like about the new, sporty plug-in.

Henrik Fisker may not have proven himself particularly adept at running a start-up, but the man can flat out design a car. The Atlantic will play second fiddle to the Karma in terms of package and pricing, but it looks every bit as stylish and upscale as its big brother. Fisker essentially whittles the Karma's sexy look into a smaller package while adding some new elements.

Land Rover Pushing Ahead With Upscale Range Rover

Land Rover Pushing Ahead With Upscale Range Rover test 2

Land Rover is facing more competition than ever. These days, every luxury automaker offers an SUV, and the format is about to go ultra-premium in the form of Bentley, Maserati and Lamborghini SUVs. Land Rover will respond by bumping the Range Rover up in price and package to keep from losing the spotlight.

We originally heard tell of a higher end Range Rover last year, and Land Rover is reportedly pushing full steam ahead in moving the next Range Rover up market. The company tested the waters with last year's Autobiography Ultimate Edition, a limited edition, $170,000 version of the Range Rover Autobiography with such ultra-premium accoutrements as a drink cooler and an aluminum and Kalahari wood laptop table. That model sold with no issues, experiencing particular success in China, Russia and the Middle East.

2012 Aston Martin DBS Volante Carbon Edition: What's In A Name?

On: Wed, Apr 4, 2012 at 12:02PM | By: Lou Ruggieri

2012 Aston Martin DBS Volante Carbon Edition test 2

Although it is hard to argue with Shakespeare, when it comes to the automotive world, he may not have been quite right. While it is true that, "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet," when it comes to cars a name counts.

By the numbers the 2012 Aston Martin DBS Volante Carbon Edition, aside from being a mouthful, is not an overwhelmingly impressive car. It is powered by a wicked 5.9-liter V12 that churns out an incredible 510-horsepower and equally awe-inspiring 420-lb.-ft. of torque, but for all that power it is essentially the quintessential Aston Martin corporate motor that we have seen in quite a few other models. A six-speed automatic transmission is no more than standard fare these days, and could even be considered to be behind the times at this stage of the game with automakers like BMW and Mercedes using seven and eight speed transmissions to back their seemingly lesser cars. All that for the most daunting number of all -- a base price of a whopping $302,576!
