On: Mon, Jul 9, 2012 at 10:19AM | By: Chris Weiss

Puritalia 427 test 2

Truth be told, we forgot all about the Puritalia 427 roadster, which the company teased several weeks ago. A car from a little-known Italian outfit purporting to reinvent an icon was interesting for about 10 minutes; then it quickly vacated our minds to make room for more important things. Well, the car has been revealed, earning it another 10 minutes of attention.

This Is What Happens When You Crowd-Source An Aston Martin

Crowd-Sourced Aston Martin test 2

Sometimes, relying on the crowd for information and insight works out well, like in the case of the Local Motors Rally Fighter. Sometimes, it does not, like in the case of the new Aston Martin DB9 1M.

Last fall, Aston Martin announced that it would build a special edition Millionth Fan Car to recognize hitting one million fans on Facebook. Since the car was conceived to honor its fans, Aston gave those Facebookers some input. In a manufacturing by consensus campaign, Aston relied on Facebook fans to pick out the model, trim and options of the car.

Bugatti Working On Veyron Successor test 2

Introduced way back in 2005, the Bugatti Veyron has enjoyed a long, successful career. It's been the fastest car in the world - both officially and unofficially - for much of its existence. It has also enjoyed a role as the most expensive and exotic supercar on the planet. But it's getting very close to retirement. Despite the lack of any official announcements on succeeding models, reports about a Veyron successor are already heating up.

While the status of the 16C Galibier remains in limbo, Bugatti is reportedly hard at work on the next generation Veyron, which will be named....VEYRON! The new model will be more than just an update or special edition, however; it will be a completely new model.

Infiniti May Look To Essence Concept, Not Emerg-E For Flagship

Infiniti May Look To Essence Concept, Not Emerg-E For Flagship test 2

"Infiniti EMERG-E is physical proof of Infiniti’s intention to produce a bold halo model befitting the brand’s promise of Inspired Performance, and also signals an array of exciting new technologies that the brand will adopt in its quest to build dramatic and sustainable high performance cars." Infiniti used that sentence to introduce the Emerg-E performance hybrid at this year's Geneva Motor Show. While the statement doesn't say that the Emerg-E will be the "bold halo model," it certainly implies it. The fact that Infiniti has built a working prototype supplies further evidence.

Things may not be so clear cut, however. A new report casts doubt on whether the Emerg-E will be Infiniti's halo car, suggesting that Nissan's luxury arm will reach further back in its concept car portfolio.

2013 Mercedes SL653: The Future Never Looked So Good!

2013 Mercedes SL653 test 2

Amidst all of the current hybrid nonsense going on in the world, it would be easy for a traditional gearhead to lose faith in the hope that the future will bring him bigger, better, and badder models to choose from. Considering how everything now seems to either plug-in, charge-up, or boast more about miles per gallon than horsepower, it is at the very least understandable to imagine how someone could think that our world's best hot rod days are behind us. But fear not, you weary worrywarts, we are here to tell you that not all is lost. In fact, one look at the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 and all your fears will be quelled.

What?! Lamborghini May Build Four-Door Aventador

What?! Lamborghini May Build Four-Door Aventador test 2

A Lamborghini sedan has been rumored since the Raging Bull unveiled the Estoque concept in 2008. Those rumors were largely put to rest when Lamborghini unveiled the Urus concept at the recent 2012 Beijing Motor Show. The logic is that the Urus crossover beat out an Estoque-inspired sedan for the third and final model slot in Sant'Agata Bolognese. Still, some voices say that Lamborghini hasn't abandoned the sedan entirely. The latest such voice explains that the first Lamborghini four-door may come by way of a four-seat Aventador.

Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Runs Down A Golf Ball (Video)

Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Runs Down A Golf Ball test 2

You know, when we declared 2012 the year of the air-land race, we had forgotten momentarily about the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster-meets-golf ball world record. It wasn't actually a race per se, but some racing was required for SLS driver David Coulthard to track down the golf ball and catch it mid-air. So it's yet another fine example of the great land-air competition of 2012.

We first heard about the Mercedes stunt last month. Only problem was, there wasn't any video to show you. Try as we did, you really can't tell the story of "world's farthest golf shot caught in a moving car" without an accompanying video clip.

BMW Supercar May Be Back On The Table

BMW Supercar May Be Back On The Table test 2

Rumors about a new BMW M1 supercar have been a little scattered and schizophrenic. After hearing about the possibility of a new M1 for years, BMW brass laid the rumor to rest last year. Or did they? A new report with roots in Germany says that the M1 is indeed being developed.

A report trail that winds its way back to Germany's Auto Bild suggests that BMW is working on an M1 successor to be introduced in 2016. Taking the report's info at face value, the car will be a lightweight blend of aluminum, magnesium, titanium and plastic. Power will come from a ~600-hp V-8 turbo that pushes the car to around 205 mph. Thanks to its turbo engine and start-stop system, the car will deliver high performance without the detriment of atrocious fuel economy.

Glorious V-12 Notes And Ferrari F12 Drifting (Video)

Glorious V-12 Notes And Ferrari F12 Drifting (Video) test 2

It was a few months ago that we first became acquainted with the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Yet, we feel like we barely know the latest horse to prance out of Maranello. A new video changes all that, giving us some much needed one on one time with the new coupe.

Taken by infamous supercar footage hound Marchettino, the short video shows the F12 doing some driving on Ferrari's Fiorano Circuit. As much as we enjoy the fly-bys and drifting, this video could be enjoyed just as thoroughly with our eyes closed. The beautifully harmonic tone of the V-12 is really what makes the whole scene.

Massive Parade Of Ferraris Works At World Record

Massive Parade Of Ferraris Works At World Record test 2

A huge, never-ending line of Ferraris sounds like a dream that any car fan has had before. It's about to become a reality, though, as Ferrari North Europe prepares to create the world's longest Ferrari parade. While creating a parade of a Ferraris is a valuable proposition on its own, the group will be attempting to get itself recognized by Guiness.

Ferrari North Europe already has 600 cars registered, more than enough to beat the current record of 490. However, it won't be making the official attempt until September and is hoping to get an even 1,000 cars on board. It will be making the attempt at Ferrari Racing Days at the Silverstone Circuit in the U.K. (September 15 - 16).

Ferrari North Europe previously set the world record with a 385-car parade at the same event in 2007. The following spring, however, Ferrari North Europe was eclipsed by a 490-car parade put together by Cornes & Company Limited, a motor vehicle distributor in Japan, at the Fuji Speedway Circuit, Shizuoka, Japan. Ferrari North Europe hopes to get it back in a few weeks.
