Tons Of Epic Hollywood Hooning In Ken Block's Gymkhana Four (Video)

On: Wed, Aug 17, 2011 at 12:59PM | By: David Walter

Gymkhana Four: The Hollywood Megamercial test 2

"Gymkhana Four: The Hollywood Megamercial" featuring professional racer and hooning master Ken Block and his turbocharged 2.0-liter Ford Fiesta (capable of up to 600 horsepower and 655 lb-ft of torque!) was released yesterday.

Now, I considered attempting to answer some potential questions (i.e. what is hooning? who is Ken Block? what is Gymkhana?), but you'd probably get a better understanding by just watching the video.

And trust me, you'll definitely want to watch this!

Shelby Supercars: It's The Tuatara

Shelby Supercars: It's The Tuatara test 1-1

If we didn't know any better, we'd swear that the name 'Tuatara' belonged to some exotic, Italian brand. Pagani, for instance. 'Tuatara' and 'Huayra' look like natural supercar stable mates. But, we do know better, and despite the exotic name from across the ocean, the Tuatara is all-American at heart. It's the official name of Shelby Supercars' second car.

Retro-Styled Spada Codatronca Monza One-Off Gets Specs test 1-1

Originally unveiled back at the Top Marques Monaco in April, the open-topped Spada Codatronca Monza now has a little more detail behind it. And everything we're seeing is absolutely impressive.

Ferrari Fail! 458 And GTO Crashes On Vallelunga

Ferrari Fail! 458 And GTO Crashes On Vallelunga test 1-1

Unlike the Bugatti Veyron, which has suffered from a rash of horrible owners/drivers for the past few years, the Ferrari 458 Italia has suffered more from its own shortcomings. Specifically, the car was subject to a series of highly publicized fires due to combustible adhesive. Ferrari issued a recall, fixed the problem and moved forward.

But that doesn't mean the 458 Italia is entirely safe. Like the Veyron and any other car, it still requires a competent driver. And one driver that participated in the recent Vallelunga Ferrari Club Italia event proved less than competent.

Mitsubishi Launches Evo Experience II Add-On At Infineon

Jim Russell Evo Experience school 1 test 2

Mitsubishi Motors America has announced the literal next level in tire-torturing with the “Lancer Evolution Experience II,” the newly-available follow-up to the carmaker’s original Evo-driving course through the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.

[OK, they call it “Infineon Raceway” now, but it will always be Sears Point to me.]

Anyhoo, this offers Evo geeks—and the general public—the chance to REALLY scare the wee out of themselves behind the wheel of a specially-prepared Evolution X in an additional intensive day of instruction.

But before you go and assume that this is the typical “follow-the-leader” or “we’re lapping for fun, so no stopwatches here” driving school, I have two words for you: “Time Attack.”

Hennessey Venom GT To Run Goodwood (with Warm-Up Video)

On: Tue, Jul 5, 2011 at 7:52AM | By: Chris Weiss

Hennessey Venom GT test 2

For the past couple of years, the Hennessy Venom GT has been like a phantom of the supercar world. We don't talk about it nearly as often as cars like the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 or Pagani Huayra, but it shows up every so often to remind us of just how powerful and awesome it is. The next stop? The Goodwood Festival of Speed Hill Climb this weekend.

Video: Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition Earns Its Name

Video: Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition Earns Its Name test 1-1

When you designate a 'Nurburgring Edition' anything, you'd better be sure that it's up to the task. And Lexus did just that in racing its LFA Nurburgring Edition around the Nordschliefe circuit of Nurburgring. Finish time? 7:22.85. And that was just messin' around.

Gazoo Racing team manager Akira Iida attacked the Ring before last weekend's 24 Hours of Nurburgring event and logged the time, which would be enough to give the LFA Nurburgring the number 10 spot all time. We say "would be" because the run wasn't an official lap, just a warm up. An official attempt is likely to come later this year and we'd expect the LFA to move up the list even further.

ZR1 Runs A Ring Around The Competition!

ZR1 Runs A Ring Around the Competition! test 2

It should come as no surprise that when a company builds a fast car, they would very much like it to be the fastest car out there. But, for there to be a unanimous agreement that anyone one car is faster than another, an understanding must first be met about how these cars will be tested. That agreement, my friends, is called the Nurburgring. No, I didn't just pass out and fall face first onto the keyboard. The Nurburgring is basically a track built around the German town of Nurburg (now it makes a little more sense already, I bet). The 'Ring as it's been also called, is not just any track, but is nothing short of being one of if not the meanest, most unbelievably difficult tracks on the face of the Earth. The 'Ring is a 12.8 mile track that can twist, turn, shake, rattle, and roll even the most courageous driver into nothing more than a mess of embarrassment and driving gloves, surrounded by broken glass and crumpled sheet metal.

Mark Higgins Topples Isle Of Man TT Circuit Record With Subaru WRX STI

On: Thu, Jun 9, 2011 at 6:18PM | By: Clay Ritchings

Subaru WRX STI test 2

The tiny bit of green that is known as Isle of Man is famous for its TT motorbike racing event held every year. Recently the island played host to one of the most remarkable displays of speed on the planet. As if rocketing down the 37.8-mile course by speed mongers on motorcycles in less than 18 minutes can get any better—it did. Subaru decided to have a go at beating that record, and sent a Subaru WRX STI sedan and former British Rally Champion Mark Higgins to make this record-breaking attempt.

Koenigsegg CCXR vs. Supercharged Corvette Z06 test 2

Much like watching two heavyweight icons like Ali and Frasier gruel it out for supremacy, there's something magical about watching two ultra-powerful, iconicly awesome supercars go head to head. Even when the match-up is odd and skewed.

The latest piece of supercar throw-down to bubble to the surface of the Interwebs is a Drag Times piece with a supercharged Corvette Z06 and a Koenigsegg CCXR.

A Car-As-Art, Not An Art Car: Stella/Gregg M1 Goes To Auction In August

On: Wed, Jun 1, 2011 at 2:37PM | By: Andrew W Davis

Stella-painted Gregg '79 BMW M1 Pro Car racer test 2

For reasons not clearly explained, the Guggenheim Museum in New York will end its 12-year stewardship over what is easily among the top 10 most expensive BMWs on Earth—the 1979 BMW M1Pro Car painted by artist Frank Stella for late racer Peter Gregg—when it is offered for sale by Bonhams during its Quail Lodge auction event Aug. 18-19 in Carmel, Calif.

[If you thought that sentence was convoluted, just wait for the car’s historical run-down I’m about to get into…]
