The World's First Car Backflip ... In A MINI test 2

Imagine for a second soaring 20 feet over the ground, peering at the hard asphalt below through the upside-down windshield of your car. Now imagine that that car was one of the tiniest minicars on Earth. That doesn't sound too enticing, does it? But that's what French driver, skier and stuntman Guerlain Chicherit put himself up to. MINI is calling it the world's first unassisted backflip by car.

Next month, the Sebring International Raceway – one of the oldest continuously-operating race tracks in the country – will once again host America’s premier sports car endurance race. The 61st Sebring 12 Hour Classic begins Wednesday, March 13th, and it all leads up to Saturday’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Five different classes of competition for both prototype and GT entries will race during the week – rumor is that we might see the new Viper SRT team!

Bentley Continental GT3 Racer Prepares For Track test 2

The Bentley Continental GT already has a bit of racing pedigree, including a world speed record. It's about to get much more. In September, Bentley announced that it would return to racing for the first time since 2003. The Crewe crew is preparing the Continental GT3 racer for a debut late next year.

Bentley unveiled the Continental GT3 Concept Racer at the Paris Motor Show and showed it again at the L.A. Show earlier this month. Its next stop will be the 2013 Autosport International exhibition next month, marking the race car's U.K. debut.

For The Love Of Driving: Four Minutes On A Fast, Curvy Road In Autumn (Video)

For The Love Of Driving: Four Minutes On A Fast, Curvy Road In Autumn test 2

Here at Autoshopper, we love cars and vehicles of all kinds. Of course, that means we also love driving -in theory, at least. The average commute is filled with inching traffic, impatient drivers, big, diesel-spitting trucks and just a tad of face-reddening road rage. It's not exactly the idyllic winding-road commute in a roadster that you think about when you think about the thrill of the drive. So we're always on the lookout for videos that take us to that place, if only for a few moments. This is one of those videos.

How Motor Racing Made Your Road Car Safer

Formula 1 crash test 2

Watching NASCAR or Formula 1 it is hard to see how the lessons learned at nearly 200 mph, high on the banking at Daytona, could somehow make your commute across a congested town, never exceeding 50 mph, a safer experience. However, looking closely, almost every facet of the modern automobile has been shaped by motor racing, including many things which make everyday journeys safer:

Nearly 1,000 Ferraris Gather For World Record (Video)

Nearly 1,000 Ferraris Gather For World Record test 2

Event organizers may be disappointed that they fell three dozen short of their goal of 1,000, but 964 Ferraris in a parade is nothing to blink at. In fact, you won't want to blink at all, or you'll end up missing scores of Ferraris in the video of this impressive world record.

Over the weekend, 964 Ferraris of all colors, models and ages - including the all-new F12 Berlinetta - took to the U.K.'s Silverstone Circuit to set a new world record. While Guinness has yet to certify the record, all the appropriate paperwork has been filed and it appears like only a matter of time before the recent event replaces a 2008 parade of 490 Ferraris at Japan's Fuji Speedway Circuit as the biggest Ferrari parade on record.

Nissan Leaf Sets Goodwood Record...In Reverse

Nissan Leaf Sets Goodwood Record...In Reverse test 2

If there's one car that you could safely say would not set a record at the "Festival of Speed," it would be a small electric car like the Nissan Leaf. Or so we thought. The Leaf set an interesting record at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

During this past weekend's Goodwood festivities, stunt driver Terry Grant powered the Nissan Leaf to a Goodwood record...multiple times. While the Nissan Leaf was ill-equipped to compete with the suped-up sports coupes and supercars in most categories, it took its own direction - fastest time over the course of a mile, in reverse.

Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Runs Down A Golf Ball (Video)

Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Runs Down A Golf Ball test 2

You know, when we declared 2012 the year of the air-land race, we had forgotten momentarily about the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster-meets-golf ball world record. It wasn't actually a race per se, but some racing was required for SLS driver David Coulthard to track down the golf ball and catch it mid-air. So it's yet another fine example of the great land-air competition of 2012.

We first heard about the Mercedes stunt last month. Only problem was, there wasn't any video to show you. Try as we did, you really can't tell the story of "world's farthest golf shot caught in a moving car" without an accompanying video clip.

Massive Parade Of Ferraris Works At World Record

Massive Parade Of Ferraris Works At World Record test 2

A huge, never-ending line of Ferraris sounds like a dream that any car fan has had before. It's about to become a reality, though, as Ferrari North Europe prepares to create the world's longest Ferrari parade. While creating a parade of a Ferraris is a valuable proposition on its own, the group will be attempting to get itself recognized by Guiness.

Ferrari North Europe already has 600 cars registered, more than enough to beat the current record of 490. However, it won't be making the official attempt until September and is hoping to get an even 1,000 cars on board. It will be making the attempt at Ferrari Racing Days at the Silverstone Circuit in the U.K. (September 15 - 16).

Ferrari North Europe previously set the world record with a 385-car parade at the same event in 2007. The following spring, however, Ferrari North Europe was eclipsed by a 490-car parade put together by Cornes & Company Limited, a motor vehicle distributor in Japan, at the Fuji Speedway Circuit, Shizuoka, Japan. Ferrari North Europe hopes to get it back in a few weeks.

Hyundai Genesis Races An Arrow (Video)

Hyundai Genesis Races An Arrow test 2

We'd think that the Hyundai Genesis (especially the 3.8-liter V-6 model) would be ill-equipped to race an F16 fighter. It might be able to handle a skydiver, but Hyundai thought that a soaring arrow would be a better fit. The automaker put the sports coupe to the test against a masterfully aimed projectile.

We're calling it now: 2012 is the year of the air-land race. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but every time we turn around, there's a new odd-ball race between a sports car and some type of stereotypically speedy air vessel.

In the latest such battle, Hyundai asks the question: "Can a car go faster than an arrow." While I never actually thought about it and couldn't care less in the long run, the manufactured question certainly has me wondering. Can it? It's safe to assume that since Hyundai made a whole video around it, it can. The video is part of Hyundai's New Thinking, New Possibilities campaign.

Infiniti G37S Races A Professional Skydiver (Video)

Infiniti G37S Races A Professional Skydiver test 2

It's early June, which means the days are long, and the weather is getting warmer and sunnier. And it must have been a long winter, because restless souls everywhere are making the most of their time outside by performing acts of skill, courage, bravado and sheer insanity. We saw the Lamborghini Aventador take on an F-16 fighter earlier this week, and now we have another unlikely air-ground race between an Infiniti G37S ... and a skydiver.

We'd imagine that an amateur skydiver would be too concerned with things like falling to instantaneous death to try to race a car on the ground, so Infiniti and Red Bull turned to professional skydiver Jon DeVore in creating the race. The opposition was Monaco Grand Prix -winning Red Bull/Infiniti F1 racer Mark Webber.
