Happy New Year, London: Jaguar C-X75 Comes to Town test 1-1

New York may have Times Square and the big ball, but London has something even more glamorous for New Year's: the Jaguar C-X75. One of the sexiest concept cars of the year, the Jaguar C-X75 spent the final days of 2010 in a London shop window. If you happen to be in the city, welcome in the new year by taking a trip to see one of the most advanced car concepts of 2010.

More Official Pictures of Lotus' Concepts

More Official Pictures of Lotus' Concepts test 1-1

At the Paris Motor Show, Lotus opened its floodgates and showed the world six brand-new concepts. The concepts were a look into the retooled future in Hethel, a future that will focus on hard-lined, performance-oriented super—and sports—cars, rather than the small, light, modestly powered two-seaters like the Elise and Exige models that have dominated Lotus offerings in the 21st century. At show time, we got to know each concept both inside and out.

If we had one complaint about Lotus concept barrage, it would have to be a few of the color choices. The dark green that coated the Esprit—the most anticipated of Lotus new models—just didn't quite accentuate its curves or good looks.

Luckily, Lotus has righted that small wrong, in releasing new photos of not only the Esprit, but also the new Elise, Elan, and Elite on its Facebook page. According to Autocar, the company will also update the page with new Eterne and City Car pictures in the near future, rounding out its six-car line-up.

2010 Tampa International Auto Show: Everything Else

Chevrolet Stingray Concept test 2

Rounding out our week of Auto Show coverage, we have provided you with cars we missed in previous posts, as well as cars that needed more room. The Chevrolet Cruze and Ford Focus simply can't be properly reported on without a test drive. With only visual inspection of these cars we can safely say that they are as good or better than their Japanese, German, and Korean rivals. I would honestly choose either car over a new Jetta. Especially the 1.4 liter Cruze or Focus ST. Neither was on hand at this particular show, but we have already lamented the auto industry's blase attitude toward the Central Florida market. Too many Rednecks and Mexicans who will only consider gently used pick-ups, I suppose.

Enjoy this gallery, and stay tuned next week for one more "Everything Else" post; we just cannot fit everything into 30 images.

Vaporware or VeyronCrusher: New Renderings of the 2000-HP TranStar Dagger GT

Vaporware or VeyronCrusher: New Renderings of the 2000-HP TranStar Dagger GT test 1-1

Call me a cynic, but I'm not quite sold on the idea of a 2,000-hp supercar from a small company that I've never heard of. Especially seeing as how it exists only in renderings at the moment. But the TranStar Dagger GT is an American-developed supercar that could one day capture the world speed record. We'll believe that when [if] we see it, but at the moment, the company has offered up some new renderings of what a 2,000-hp American roadster will look like. And so far, the company's claiming that it will be available next year.

2010 Tampa International Auto Show: GM And Korea

2011 Buick LaCrosse test 2

The AutoShopperBlog spent Sunday perusing the Tampa International Auto Show, presented by Motor Trend. Not expecting grandeur on the scale of a Geneva or Detroit show, we were none the less disappointed at the glaring absences from the Tampa show. No Audi, no Porsche, no Ferrari. More surprisingly there was no Fiat. You would think that the Tampa/St. Pete area would be a hot-bed of Cinquecento activity, that Chrysler/Fiat might expect to sell more than a few of the little hatchbacks in our area. Apparently they don't see it that way.

The automakers who did show up brought their best and brightest. In this post we cover three important brands from everybody's favorite bankruptcy survivor, General Motors, as well as the best from Korea. There are some interesting vehicles showcased here, from the Chevy Cruze and Hyundai Elantra, to the Hyundai Equus and Cadillac CTS-V Coupe. I can tell you, with unabashed certainty, that the Buick Regal and Kia Optima are both excellent candidates for that second mortgage. Both cars are similar in tactile feel and interior quality. The Regal, under the sheetmetal, is a German car, so it should be this nice. The Kia is such a good car it is shocking that it isn't Germanic. The steering wheel could have come straight out of a Volkswagen GTi; the dash is raked toward the driver at an alarming angle. The sight lines are perfect, the buttons and knobs click and whir in satisfying fashion. Consult the image gallery to find out what we though of the rest of the best from General Motors and Korea . . .

Geneva Preview: Rinspeed BamBoo Concept

Geneva Preview: Rinspeed BamBoo Concept test 1-1

We may still have Detroit to go through, but that's not stopping some companies from previewing their Geneva-bound wares. The Swiss design firm Rinspeed pulled the covers off its BamBoo concept planned for the show. In a medley of green design, Rinspeed strips the automobile of everything but the basics and equips the concept with a no-emissions, electric powertrain in a concept that looks perfectly suited to long summer days on the beach.

Mercedes Developing Eco-Supercar To Compete With 918 and Vision EfficientDynamics

Mercedes Developing Eco-Supercar To Compete With 918 and Vision EfficientDynamics test 1-1

It appears there was a good reason the Mercedes Biome concept was a little more flirty with the media than its competitors in the LA Design Challenge: Mercedes is actually working on a production car that will be loosely based on the Biome design. The Biome-inspired car will be Mercedes' answer to eco-supercars offered by German competitors, including the Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid and BMW Vision EfficientDynamics.

L.A.P.D. Tests All New Ford Police Interceptor

Ford Stealth Police Interceptor Concept test 2

Ford has long been known as the maker of the most popular police vehicle in America—the famous Crown Victoria. Ford’s new police car is a 3.5 V6 EcoBoost-powered sedan that actually outperforms the old V8 Crown Victoria with 20% better fuel economy.

Ford’s Police Interceptor AWD sedan has a 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine which delivers an impressive 0-60 mph test of 5.8 seconds, as well as a faster lap time than the Dodge and Chevy V8 engines. Ford’s EcoBoost V6 is a twin-turbocharged, direct-injection engine that will deliver at least 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque.

Video: Jay Leno Drives the Jaguar C-X75 Concept test 1-1

There are few if any high-end cars that haven't made their way through Jay Leno's Garage. Because when he's not making stupid one-liners about Bill Clinton, he's out driving some of the most exclusive cars on the planet. Case in point: the Jaguar C-X75. An incredible but fantastical concept, the C-X75 is based largely on future technology. Yet Jay Leno has already driven it.

Automakers Showcase Vehicles That Get 40 mpg or Better At L.A. Auto Show

2011 Hyundai Elantra test 2

At this year's L.A. Auto Show, new cars with exceptional fuel economy were hard to miss. Most major automakers are starting to focus on improving fuel economy due to the impending government guidelines mandating that cars have an average of 35.5 mpg by 2016. Not only are there many new fuel efficient hybrids and electric vehicles being launched, but also there is an abundance of new combustion engines that are seeing better gas mileage than ever before. In fact many new models for 2011 and 2012 will get 40 mpg or better.

Lamborghini Confirms That Sesto Elemento Production is a Possibility

Lamborghini Confirms That Sesto Elemento Production is a Possibility test 1-1

Last week we reported that Lamborghini was considering a limited run production of its Sesto Elemento concept that it showed in Paris. That report originated out of rumors and whispers reported on by a French automotive blog, so it was far from confirmed. While Lamborghini hasn't completely confirmed the concept for production, indications from CEO Stephan Winkelmann are that the company is heading in that direction. Due to safety restrictions, the car would be offered as a track-only model.
