US To Get Lotus Ethos City Car By 2013 test 2

At least year's Paris Motor Show, Lotus came out, guns blazing, with a slew of sports car concepts designed to reinvent the brand. When the smoke from those booming gunshots finally cleared, there was one more car to be seen: the City Car concept, a tiny subcompact based on the Emas concept from parent company Proton.

Lotus is working on production of many of those concepts, including the City Car, which will be called the Ethos. Despite dour sales for competitors like the smart fortwo, Lotus will bring the Ethos to the US market in a couple years.

Toyota Goes "Extreme" With Its New-ish Tacoma (In Name, At Least)

CRASHBOOMPOW!

TRIPPENDICULAR DUDE!

IT’S TOTALLY EXTREME!

Hi. As a member of the generation called “X” I’ve been subjected to the above style of advertisement slogan for years now. Recently, however, I noticed that it had finally died down to a low roar. But then Toyota had to go and mess it all up with their new TACOMA EXTREME!

Hyundai To Debut ARKed-Up Veloster At SEMA (Noah Could Not Be Reached For Comment)

Hyundai's ARK Performance Veloster -- 2011 SEMA show car test 2

“To showcase the performance capabilities and aftermarket potential of its innovative three-door coupe, Hyundai has teamed up with ARK Performance to transform Veloster into a sleek and sporty rally car.”

Finally a car company comes out with a press release that doesn’t require distilling and translating and—as I’ve heard Brits say—“mucking about.”

I don’t usually “phone in” my articles, but, as it turns out, those nice folks at the Car Company Nobody Saw Coming pretty much did my work for me. It continues…

Toyota Supra Gets Rendered

Toyota Supra Gets Rendered test 2

A week ago, we heard a refreshed version of the Supra revival rumors. In the latest round of auto gossip, Toyota appears poised to develop a new mid-level sports car to replace its popular Supra model of the 80s and 90s. The RWD sports coupe could debut as soon as 2014. Or it could disappear into thin air as has happened in the past.

As we await the final verdict, one artist decided not to sit idly by, instead running with the news. Andreas Fougner developed some renderings of what he'd like the new Supra to look like.

Bugatti Galibier Pressing Ahead With 1,000 + HP And Bigger Interior

Bugatti Galibier Pressing Ahead With 1,000 + HP And Bigger Interior test 2

When it debuted in 2009, the Bugatti 16C Galibier was an unlikely marriage of ultra-premium sedan and 800-hp supercar. The concept was basically a stretched out, slightly detuned Veyron with an interior expensive enough to make a multi-billionaire blush. Such an odd car was bound to polarize auto fans, and, from the opinions that I've read, that's exactly what happened. Some were enamored with the polished aluminum-and-carbon theme, winged engine bay, and incomparably luxurious interior. Others saw an eyesore excessive and unattractive enough to bring back a serious debate on socialist reform.

Well, today we have some equally divisive news: Bugatti is still pursuing Galibier development, but plans some significant changes as it moves from concept to production.

Toyota Ku:Rin Sets Record For Compressed Air Vehicle

Toyota Ku:Rin Sets Record For Compressed Air Vehicle test 2

Looking at the Ku:Rin, I thought to myself that it looks like the type of streamliner that you'd see out on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Actually, first I thought "What the hell is that colon doing in the middle of the car's name, and am I going to have to write that every time?!" Then I thought that it looks like a streamliner.

Well, I was both right and wrong. The Ku:Rin is indeed a world-record breaking car, but its record is a modest 80 mph. Because it runs on a unique fuel: air compression.

The Kid With The Big Head: Honda Debuts New CR-V

The Kid With The Big Head: Honda Debuts New CR-V test 2

Growing up I had a friend with an oversized head. He was the shortest among my friends, yet his head was probably the largest. Massive head, small body.

The minute I looked at the new CR-V concept Honda debuted this week, I thought of him. That cabin just reminds me of a forehead that never ends, looking just as oversized and gawky as a kid with a big head. It feels like that windshield should end a few millimeters—or feet—lower, and the roofline should start descending a little sooner.

Better Than Tesla? Toray Teewave AR.1 Electric Roadster

Better Than Tesla? Toray Teewave AR.1 Electric Roadster test 2

Gordon Murray Design and Toray Industries have introduced a sporty, electric roadster prototype that gives the Tesla Roadster a run for its money as the hottest electric two-seater around. Of course, the prototype falls rather short when it comes to performance.

Toray Industries, a manufacturer of textiles and composites, commissioned Gordon Murray Design to build a working prototype of the EV highlighting its automotive materials. As such, the car is injected with all kinds of carbon fiber, including a carbon tub, carbon components system, and a carbon front crash structure. The car weighs in at around 1,875 lbs—some 880 lbs. lighter than the Tesla Roadster.

Subaru Will Show BRZ In LA... Sort Of

Subaru Will Show BRZ In LA... Sort Of test 2

For months, we've been saying that Subaru will debut its BRZ sports car at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show. Turns out that's both true and false, mostly true. Subaru will finally can the whole plexiglass act at the LA Motor Show in November. It will show an actual concept version of the BRZ... but that version won't look anything like the production version.

According to Car and Driver, Subaru will finally give us a proper concept car version of the BRZ in LA. But, because of an agreement between Subaru and Toyota that requires them to wait until Tokyo to reveal the production version of their respective cars, Subaru's concept won't look anything like the production version.

That also means that all of these increasingly tiresome FT-86 concepts from Toyota haven't been all that real either. We expect the car to lose its facial scars and exaggerated curves in production.

Kia Leaning Toward GT Production

Kia Leaning Toward GT Production test 2

According to indications and ruminations, Kia has a hankering to develop a sports car. The GT concept debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show was supposed to be the first of two sports car concepts, the second of which was rumored for a Detroit Auto Show debut. Well, it appears Kia is already leaning toward GT production, even before having introduced its second possible concept.

Rimac Shows Us What 2,800 lb-ft Of Electric Torque Is All About test 2

After a few teasers, Rimac has officially presented its Concept One at the Frankfurt Motor Show. We're not holding our breath for a production version of this 1,000-HP, 200-MPH electric supercar, but we must say: Rimac knows how to make a fine-looking automobile.
