Throughout The Car Industry
The Touareg: the VW Group midsize SUV for those too poor to afford an Audi Q7 or Porsche Cayenne. Or that's what most people think. And God forbid you mention your Touareg has a diesel. Most people will keep standing there just long enough to drop their gaze to see if you're wearing socks with your Birkenstocks and invent a sick family member/pet/head-of-state they have to visit—like right now—before they sprint away from you.

Now, don't panic. I know the list of Mecum's Ferrari/Maserati apex predators alone won't spend all of your quarter-billion-dollar inheritance from your granduncle Archibald, but I promise you will be able to spend it all in one place, between August 18th and 20th, to assemble the greatest collection of modern mega-dollar performance cars as his will requires.

My condolences. I heard about your granduncle Archibald's passing. Not to be rude, but wasn't it odd that a recluse who lived in a decommissioned missile silo in the middle of Nowheresville had a quarter-billion-dollars' worth of gold bullion stockpiled? I mean, it's good for you, as you're his sole heir. What? You get the money only if you spend it all in one place, between August 18th and 20th, to assemble one of the greatest collections of mega-dollar performance cars?

The dominoes are falling. On May 7th, a Tesla Model S strikes a tractor-trailer in Williston, Florida. The Model S driver is killed. On June 28th, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opens an investigation of Tesla in regards to the fatal accident; their main concern seems to be with the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) in Telsa’s Autopilot driver-assist system.

Despite its relatively paltry sales figures, Chevrolet's SS performance sedan has proven to be not only a good alternate to the dearly departed Pontiac G8, it's also a rolling showcase demonstrating the potential of the brand's performance engineering. If a new series of rumors is to be believed, the SS could end its production run with a bang.

Technological advances have always pushed the automobile industry forward, and it is certainly a selling point when you can offer a new bell or whistle that your competitors have not yet perfected. Back in the day, the steps forward were typically baby steps, and change came about slowly. During our current era, the dynamic is quite a bit different. Innovations are constantly entering the automotive picture, and existing features undergo refinements. In fact, there are so many different features available in new cars, it can be hard to keep track of them all. This is especially true if you haven't purchased a new car in a number of years, because the landscape evolves quickly. Let's look at some of the features that you may find useful when you are shopping for a fresh ride. Some of them are technologically advanced, and one of them is surprisingly simple.
There's nothing like traveling to the confines of the U.S. patent office to get a glimpse at some of the futuristic vehicle technology concepts that various automakers are working on. This time our trip makes a stop at Mercedes-Benz, where they appear to be working on the latest iteration of de-icing technology, according to a recently filed patent.

When Toyota first unveiled the Prius Prime, it touted innovative fuel-saving features that would make the Prime stand out from the rest of its green competitors. One of these features is its roof, which incorporates solar panel technology to help recharge the battery and increase fuel economy. This will help to extend the Prime's driving range; but Toyota's plan to brighten the lives of Prime buyers in the U.S. has hit a snag due to safety regulations.

Marchionne changes tune on electric vehicles, says first electric Maserati model would debut in 2019
It is no secret that when it comes to EV vehicles and their profitability, Sergio Marchionne has a well-defined stance against them. He says that their profitability is non-existent, that that the Fiat 500e EV costs $10,000 for every one that is sold. However, when it comes to whether he is open to adding one in a higher price bracket, Marchionne has swerved from that position.

Looking for all the minimalist excitement of an Ariel Atom at a discount AND don't fear death? Then have I got the vehicle for you!
People in my profession—and outside it, too, I suppose—have always railed against government “interference” in the production of vehicles. Sure, the seat belt was a good idea, but airbags, “safety” bumpers, and—more recently—the laundry list of electronic nannies like automatic braking and stability control?
