7,000 Nissan Rogues Recalled

On: Wed, Dec 7, 2011 at 11:06AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

7,000 Nissan Rogues Recalled test 2

Apparently the devil really is in the details. If you own a Nissan Rogue made between August 17, 2010 and October 30, 2010 you might have already found that out the hard way. It seems that the circuit board for the power steering assist units may not have been installed correctly. Sounds troublesome doesn't it? A minor detail, yes, but one that can result in the connection between the solder and the circuit board becoming stressed to the point of separation ultimately resulting in the immediate failure of the power steering unit. Anyone that has had to deal with a non-working power steering unit, or is old enough to remember manual steering units will understand just how dangerous that could be at a moment’s notice, especially if the driver is not ready for it. Nissan is notifying owners, and has pledged to replace the circuit boards free of charge.

126,000 Goldwing Motorcycles Recalled!

126,000 Goldwing Motorcylces Recalled! test 2

Basically, if you know anyone that owns a Honda Goldwing 1800 since the turn of the new millennium, have them bring their motorcycle back to the dealership asap. Other than model year 2011, Honda is bringing back 126,000 models from 2001-2010 and 2012 (somehow 2011 missed the boat, but if it were my 2011 bike, I might just bring it in to be sure). The problem they have found is due to a mechanical defect (or combination of defects), the rear brake may have a tendency to drag while the bike is in motion. Now, aside from the obvious issues in acceleration and maintenance of speed, there is also a chance that the dragging brake may generate enough heat and friction to catch ablaze -- not a good road trip most people's minds. Honda expects the recall to begin next month, but getting those bikes in early might not be such a bad idea.

210,000 More Toyotas Recalled

On: Mon, Dec 5, 2011 at 9:56AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

210,000 More Toyotas Recalled test 2

It seems like every other week Toyota is bringing back another model. This once proud company really needs to take a good look at the details that they used to scrutinize over. This time it is the most recent Sienna models from 2011-2012. This time around, it's not something technical, but a glaring error in basic labeling. It seems Toyota didn't comply with Federal Motor Vehicle regulations and failed to display the proper load capacities for specific wheel and tire combinations. This may not seem to be a big issue at first glance, but considering the fact that we are talking about a cargo carrying family-hauler here, proper load capacity certainly seems like something that could come into question now and then. Thankfully, Toyota is sending out a placard with the proper load capacities on it.

Amidst Growing Concerns, GM Offers Volt Refunds

On: Fri, Dec 2, 2011 at 2:26PM | By: Chris Salamone

Chevrolet Volts on Woodward Ave. test 2

This last month has not been kind to GM’s latest EV innovation, the Chevy Volt. From fire risks, to government probes, to competitor advancements, and an unexpected sales slump – a mere 60% of the company’s sales target for 2011 – GM will have to face some difficult hurdles in order to raise the Volt to the vehicle’s full market potential. But have no fear, the good General is always ready for decisive action. On Thursday the automaker said it would buy back any Chevrolet Volts from customers nervous about fire risks.

This is exactly the type of product ownership that consumers need to see. People must believe that Chevy will stand by the Volt, through thick and thin, stalwartly accepting responsibility. But, the true beauty of GM’s buy-back plan is that the company expects few, if any, of the 6,000 current Volt owners to ask for a refund.

Toyota Recalls 420,000 Cars!

On: Thu, Nov 10, 2011 at 9:09AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

Toyota Recalls 420,000 Cars! test 2

Toyota voluntarily announced today one of the biggest recalls in automotive history, hauling back 420,200 vehicles for a faulty crankshaft pulley on one of its company V6 engines.  Models included in this are the 2004 Avalon, 2004-2005 Camry, Highlander, Sienna, and Solara, 2006 Highlander HV, as well as 2004-2005 Lexus ES330, 2004-2005 RX330, and 2006 RX400h models.

Thankfully no accidents have been reported, but Toyota isn't taking any chances. If you own one of these models and hear any strange noises coming from the engine bay, you can call the company to make an appointment ASAP. In terms of the technical side of things, Toyota says the outer ring of the crankshaft pulley might not be aligned correctly with the inner ring, which could ultimately result in power steering pump belt coming detached from the crank pulley and creating a sudden change in steering.

Rolls Royce Recall: 2010 Ghost Models Prone To Fire

On: Wed, Nov 9, 2011 at 9:04AM | By: Chris Weiss

Rolls Royce Recall: 2010 Ghost Models Prone To Fire test 2

In a move related to the BMW recall of more than 30,000 vehicles announced last week, Rolls Royce is recalling close to 600 Ghost models. Rolls Royce is part of BMW AG, and the Ghost is experiencing the same issue with its electric auxiliary water pump that affected the BMW models.

The last thing that you really want when purchasing an ultra-premium sedan is to watch it burn to the ground, but that's apparently what could happen if the problem goes unchecked. The circuit board for the auxiliary water pump is prone to overheating, an issue that could cause a car fire. The problem could also cause the pump or other engine components to burn.

Chrysler Recalls 5,000 New Jeep Wranglers!

On: Tue, Nov 8, 2011 at 10:17AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

Chrysler Recalls 5,000 New Jeep Wranglers! test 2

Chrysler has just announced that it will be bringing back 5,334 Jeep Wranglers made between February 7, 2007 - October 11, 2011 due to a broken electrical circuit in the airbag wiring. This defect can lead to non-deployment of the airbag during a crash, which would obviously not bode well for its driver. Chrysler says it will notify all of the Jeep owners during the month of November (and what will undoubtedly become December despite their best efforts), but owners can be proactive and contact the company at 1-800-853-1403 to schedule their free fix at their local dealership.

GM Recalls 38,000 G8 Models!

On: Tue, Nov 8, 2011 at 9:08AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

GM Recalls 38,000 G8 Models! test 2

Although Pontiac may be gone, it is not forgotten. Unfortunately, in this case, GM would probably opt for forgotten. It seems that one of the last models to debut as a Pontiac had a slight defect. The airbag sensor for all of the G8 models produced from November 2, 2007 - January 22, 2009 can delay the deployment of the airbag up to 30 milliseconds based on a miscalculation based on the passenger seat position. GM has not yet set up an owner-notification schedule, but owners can contact the General to set up an appointment for a free fix.

BMW has just issued a recall to bring back 32,084 5-Series, 5-Series Gran Turismo, 7-Series, X5, and X6 models produced from 2008-2011. Apparently, the electric auxiliary water pump can overheat which can obviously lead to big trouble, most notably a fire.

5,000 Lotus Elise/Exige Models Recalled!

On: Mon, Oct 31, 2011 at 10:28AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

5,000 Lotus Elise/Exige Models Recalled! test 2

Without many of us noticing, Lotus has quietly become significantly more popular in recent years than they ever have before. Credit goes to the exotic looks, racecar handling, and potent yet fuel efficient engines. But, unfortunately, the more of these cars that are out there increases the risk of something going wrong with a few, or a lot of them. It seems that 5,037 examples of both Exige and Elise models from 2005-2006 are being brought back due to a faulty oil cooler line that has a propensity to become detached and potentially start a fire.

GM Recalls 34,000 Equinox And Terrain Models!

On: Thu, Oct 27, 2011 at 9:51AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

GM Recalls 34,000 Equinox And Terrain Models! test 2

So it seems despite the GMC commercials touting that the Terrain can guide, stow, slide, and tow, the one thing it and its cousin, the Chevrolet Equinox, cannot do is warn its owner that its cold tire pressure is 25% below normal. It seems that the tire-pressure warning light will go on only when the tire pressure is well below the 25% mark. This does not comply with federal requirements, resulting in a recall of 33,964 vehicles that have been produced over the last two model years. Read on for the full report from Safercar.gov.
