Ford Recalls Another 400,000 Escapes

On: Tue, Aug 7, 2012 at 12:11PM | By: Lou Ruggieri

Ford Recalls Another 400,000 Escapes test 2

Suffice to say that in the last month or two, Ford has not had the best press regarding its Escape SUV. There have been two other major recalls in recent memory, and now Ford has just issued another one -- bringing back 423,634 models built between October 22, 1999 and January 23, 2004.

This time around, it seems there was a clearance issue found under the hood that involves the throttle cable. This lack of clearance can potentially cause the throttle to get stuck in the open position, resulting in a potentially very dangerous situation that is not completely unlike the huge mess Toyota found themselves in a few years ago.

Having a throttle stuck wide-open has the potential to cause not just injuries, but fatalities on a massive level. Ford has said it will begin contacting owners this week, but owners may also contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 if they do not feel like waiting. Hopefully this will be the last we hear of the Escape in terms of recalls for a long while.

Ford Recalls 9,320 More Escapes

On: Tue, Jul 24, 2012 at 3:06PM | By: Lou Ruggieri

2013 Ford Escape test 2

Ford is not doing well lately. In the last couple weeks they have issued one recall for over 8,000 Escapes, and then more recently, another recall for their bigger F650 and F750 work trucks. This week, it is another recall, for another 9,320 brand new 2013 Escapes.

This time, new Escapes equipped with the 1.6-liter four cylinder engine built between October 5, 2011 through July 11, 2012 may have been given a faulty fuel line that is prone to splitting, and consequently, leaking fuel.  As one can imagine, leaking gasoline is never a good thing -- especially in an engine compartment.

Owners are being instructed to completely stop driving their Escapes and Ford will arrange for a pick up and free fix of owners fuel lines. This is definitely not a recall to ignore, so if you or anyone you know has a new Escape, have them all Ford 1-866-436-7332 as soon as possible.

Ford Recalls F650 & F750 Trucks

On: Wed, Jul 18, 2012 at 9:56AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

Ford Recalls F650 & F750 Trucks test 2

Ford has issued a recall of 783 of its 2012 F650 and F750 models. Although that number may sound low, keep in mind that the F650 and F750 trucks are purpose built work trucks that are not built in the same quantities as say, the F150 or Explorer, so the amount proportionally is enough to cause concern.

It seems that at the factory, these trucks may not have gotten the correct bonding material between the truck and the windshield. This lack of bonding can cause some severe consequences, like the windshield falling off of the truck. Considering the work that these trucks are usually employed for, that seems to be an even higher concern than one would normally assign for this type of problem.

Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 to schedule a free fix of their windshield as soon as possible or wait to be contacted by Ford. Read on for the full report.

Ford Recalls 8,200 New Escapes

2013 Ford Escape test 2

Ford has just announced a recall of 8,266 Escape models for a very unusual reason. It seems the carpet in these cars may have been aligned wrong underneath the driver’s seat leading to the center console. This misalignment may reduce the distance between the floor and the pedals, which could cause the driver to catch the brake pedal while moving from the gas pedal.

This obviously could cause a host of problems for those on the road, most notably, a crash. Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 to schedule a free fix of the carpet and console panel, or wait it out until Ford initiates their recall beginning July 23.

Volvo Recalls 1,400 New S80s

On: Fri, Jul 13, 2012 at 1:47PM | By: Lou Ruggieri

Volvo S80 test 2

Volvo has announced a recall of 1,469 S80 models made between 2011-2013. It seems that a factory error has caused a fault within the transmission of these cars. When coasting, the car is unable to downshift which could cause a multitude of problems from stalling to acceleration problems -- all of which could cause potentially dangerous road conditions for drivers and other motorists alike. Volvo has planned to begin its recall next week, but owners can call Volvo at 1-800-458-1552 to schedule a free fix.

Chevy Recalls 400,000 Cruze Models

On: Mon, Jul 2, 2012 at 10:42AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

Chevy Cruze test 2

Chevy has released a recall of 413,148 Cruze models made from October 2, 2009 through May 31, 2012 billed as 2011 and 2012 models. It seems that any oil that may spill or drip as a result of an changing an oil filter or adding oil to the car can gather in the engine shield at the base of the motor. Unfortunately, that is also in very close proximity to very hot engine parts (exhaust and catalytic converters), which may cause all of that collected oil to catch fire, which would ruin most any driver's day.

Thankfully, owners can contact Chevy for a free fix of the shield at 1-866-694-6546 or simply wait until Chevy begins contacting owners later this month.

BMW Recalls 2,642 New X5 And X6 Models

BMW Recalls 2,642 New X5 And X6 Models test 2

Well, you finally made it! You got that brand new BMW you've always wanted! Congratulations! However, before you start showing off that new BMW SUV, you may want to take a ride back to the dealership.  That is, if you are one of the 2,642 unlucky folks who picked up a 2012 X5/X6 or a 2013 X6 equipped with a diesel engine you may have already noticed or smelled some leaking power steering fluid.

Unfortunately, because of a mistake made during production, the steering gear surface was machined improperly, causing the leak. The bigger issue is that if that fluid comes in contact exhaust manifolds it could catch fire -- ruining that brand new Bimmer pretty quickly.

Honda Recalls 50,000 Civics!

On: Fri, Jun 15, 2012 at 4:01PM | By: Lou Ruggieri

Honda Recalls 50,000 Civics! test 2

Honda has just released a recall to bring back an astounding 50,190 brand new 2012 Civics. It seems that a retaining clip was not installed during production that may cause the driveshaft to separate. As one can imagine, this potential problem can cause serious trouble for drivers and pedestrians alike. The car may roll away even when placed in "park" unless the emergency brake is engaged. The car could suddenly lose power due to the loss of connection between the engine and the drive wheels, causing serious traffic problems and more than likely a crash.

Owners can call Honda at 1-800-999-1009 to schedule a free inspection/repair of their driveshaft, or simply wait for Honda to begin contacting customers later this month.

Scion FR-S May Have Some Technical Problems

On: Wed, Jun 13, 2012 at 2:46PM | By: Chris Weiss

Scion FR-S May Have Some Technical Problems test 2

Ordinarily we'd hold off on reporting about any vehicular technical issues until a more official recall or statement by the automaker. However, when a car like the Scion FR-S - one of the most publicized cars of the year - starts developing alleged problems a week after launching, it's worth taking note of.

According to Jalopnik, Toyota issued two 'tech tip' warnings to its dealers last month about the FR-S. The first tips says that some FR-S models "exhibit a condition where the rear combination lamps appear to have moisture on the inside of the plastic lens." Cutting through the polite PR-speak, we're left with: "the taillamps aren't sealed properly and will fog with condensation." The other tip is the car "may exhibit a condition where body panel fitting may not meet customer expectations," which we'll translate to "body panels may pop off."

Chevy Recalls 4,300 New Malibus

On: Tue, Jun 5, 2012 at 10:17AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

Chevy Recalls 4,300 New Malibus test 2

If you happen to have just picked up your new 2013 Malibu, you might want to check just when your car was manufactured. If it was between October 24th of 2011 and March 31st of 2012 you should probably give Chevy a call to have it checked out.

In the General's most recent recall, 4,304 Malibus were called back to the factory due to some software issues with the car's Sensing and Diagnostic Module. The SDM may reset itself which may ultimately result in the roof rail airbag deploying without warning. Another nasty side effect could prevent the air bags from deploying and the seat belt tensioners from retracting  during a crash, which could cause serious injuries.

GM has said it will begin the free recall this week, and fix the SDM free of charge. Read on for the full report.

Acura Recalls 52,000 TL Models

On: Wed, May 30, 2012 at 11:12AM | By: Lou Ruggieri

Acura Recalls 52,000 TL Models test 2

Honda has issued a recall of 52,615 Acura TL models thanks to some questionable hoses. It seems that after dealing with high under-hood temperatures for extended periods of time, that heat along with high power steering fluid temperatures can cause the power steering hoses to deteriorate. That deterioration can lead to leaking fluid which can find its way to the catalytic converters and ultimately cause a fire.

Honda/Acura is planning on contacting all owners of the affected cars staring next month, but if you'd like to get the jump on the crowd, contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-327-4236 to schedule a free-of-charge appointment for the installation of high-temp resistant hoses.
