Nearly 1,000 Ferraris Gather For World Record (Video)

Nearly 1,000 Ferraris Gather For World Record test 2

Event organizers may be disappointed that they fell three dozen short of their goal of 1,000, but 964 Ferraris in a parade is nothing to blink at. In fact, you won't want to blink at all, or you'll end up missing scores of Ferraris in the video of this impressive world record.

Over the weekend, 964 Ferraris of all colors, models and ages - including the all-new F12 Berlinetta - took to the U.K.'s Silverstone Circuit to set a new world record. While Guinness has yet to certify the record, all the appropriate paperwork has been filed and it appears like only a matter of time before the recent event replaces a 2008 parade of 490 Ferraris at Japan's Fuji Speedway Circuit as the biggest Ferrari parade on record.

Bonhams Sells "V12 NUT" UK License Plate For Over $4k. What A Bargain!

Like cricket (the game) and Marmite (whatever the hell that is) there are just things they do in the UK that I can’t get a handle on. I always thought it was a production assistant goofing around with the more apt license plates you see on Top Gear’s test cars but no: people actually have to pay for those. A LOT. Like the four grand for “V12 NUT” Bonhams got recently.

And before you think this is an isolated incident—and/or skip to the fun "Top Five" lists I’ve painstakingly copied from another site—I provide you with a roster of offerings to be, um… offered at Barons’ “Annual British Heritage Auction & Other Classics” sale somewhere on the island today (September 17) (with plates offered in quotes and auction estimate averages in greenbacks):

[And I hate math more than you can imagine so appreciate what I did here, dang it!]

They are, as follows: “DB09 AML” [$8,315]; “9 BEN” [$34,880]; “Y12 FER” [$1,704]; “D8 GTS” [$3,448]; “W18 OND” [$2,434]; “EA51 CAR” [$1,866]; “V8 REG” [$3,488]. What, you don’t see the perfectly good reason why “9 BEN” should cost more than a new Camaro? Oh, silly American. Because, as the description reads [EXACTLY], “Pre 63 Bentley? Any The ultimate Bentley registration” of course!

2013 Ford Mustang GT

2013 Mustang 5.0 test 2

The 2013 Mustang GT is not so much a new car as it is the last iteration of a very well-loved old one. The 2014 Mustang will end the retro look Mustangs have worn since 2005; it will be something all new. Whisper this – it may even have independent rear suspension – thus changing a key, if gloriously Neanderthal, element of Mustang DNA. The last time Ford tried something so radical, by replacing the Fox Mustang with the front wheel drive Probe, customer reaction was so vociferous the board changed direction, and green-lighted development of a new generation of rear-drive Mustang.

Comparing the 2012 with the 2013 model, raw power is up to 420hp, thanks to the use of piston and ring coatings from the Boss 302. There is a new automatic transmission, a 6 speed, which features SelectShift, a tool allowing drivers better control over the ‘box, by allowing the car to be manually held in each gear. Visually the Mustang has had some nip-and-tuck work, with HID headlights alongside a new grille, set in a new front fascia. Tail lights too have been redesigned, with a blacked-out look, and new wheel designs are available.

Seems Even $250,000 Can't Buy Batman's Bottom-Shelf Ride

I’m not the best person to cover this—but you’re stuck with me so suck it up—but this Batmobile is TERRIBLE, and the fact that some sucker was willing to offer a cool quarter-mil for something that looks like it was cobbled together by a Hollywood prop shop filled with half-blind craftspeople who thought they were constructing a Cirque du Soleil stage prop is just…

*Whew.* Ok, now that that’s (somewhat) out of my system, let’s get back to this being the worst-looking Batmobile ever. [Yes, I know about that internally-lit one with MASSIVE fins, but at least that baby didn’t look like a busted-up and half-melted G.I. Joe Night Raven.]

Batmobiles start for me with the “Tumbler,” just as the films quite literally begin with Batman Begins (not least because there’s no CGI used on the latest Bat ride, even as it evolves in that continuing series, scale models or not).

But nobody’s selling those, so Auctions America had to make do…

Finally! An Auto Auction Lot That Comes With A Lifetime Mating-Prevention Guarantee!

Have a problem with getting too many women? I, being such a person, know what it’s like; they follow you everywhere, looking for any excuse to hop in your car and go…wherever.

This is why I’ve been considering replacing my eight-passenger 1989 Olds Custom Cruiser. If only I could find something that would not only seat one (and some groceries) and—most importantly—would instantly kill the mating instinct of the human female on sight.

As it turns out my ideal lust-killer’s been around since the 1980s: the Litestar Pulse. And if only I’d been at Auctions America’s Auburn Indiana sale last weekend—and been suffering from a tragic-yet-comical brain injury—I could’ve been the sad… I mean LUCKY guy who traded $22,000 actual American dollars for Lot 4052, a “1990 Reconstructed Pulse Litestar.”

Way to go, dude! No more girl-sourced cooties for you!

Nissan Launching Virtual Showroom With Microsoft Kinect Hardware

Nissan Launching Virtual Showroom With Microsoft Kinect Hardware test 2

Nissan recently revealed the 2013 Pathfinder on Facebook. While it chose not to use a hard auto show debut, it did show the new model at both the 2012 Chicago and New York auto shows. In the absence of a physical model, Nissan used a Microsoft Kinect for Windows-based interactive system to reveal the car at those shows. It's now bringing that system to select dealerships, allowing customers to take a tour before the actual model has even launched.

Nissan calls it the Pathfinder Kinect Experience. Each of 16 participating dealerships will use a Kinect for Windows-based kiosk to provide virtual tours. Instead of pointing and clicking like you would on a virtual Web tour, you use natural body motions to inspect the car. The Experience essentially mimics a physical "kicking the tires"-style inspection.

Most Stolen Car Of 2011...1994 Honda Accord

Most Stolen Car Of 2011...1994 Honda Accord test 2

Triple-digit speeds, smoking tires, sexy female accomplices in even sexier sports cars - these are the images of auto theft popularized by Hollywood and pop culture. And if you needed confirmation that they're purely fiction, just take a look at the new National Insurance Crime Bureau's Hot Wheels report. The most stolen car last year was a Honda Accord...from nearly 20 years ago.

If Hondas wasn't so darn reliable, 18-year-old Accords might be virtually non-existent. But it's just that reliability that makes them available to criminals nearly two decades after rolling off production lines. And, in opposition to the glamorous auto theft of popular culture, thieves are snatching them up more than any other car.

The Hot Wheels report has the 1994 Accord in the number 1 most stolen spot of 2011. The NICB says it's the only report that examines all theft data as reported to law enforcement without regard to a vehicle’s insured status.

Lincoln Enjoys High Marks In Consumer Satisfaction

Lincoln Enjoys High Marks In Consumer Satisfaction test 2

Staring into the awkward split-mustache grille of the current generation Lincoln family, it's hard to believe that anyone could be completely satisfied with their Lincoln. After all, Lincoln is really a "me too" luxury brand that isn't all that serious about high-end luxury. But, according to a new survey, Lincoln's customers are more satisfied than any other auto brand's.

The American Customer Satisfaction Index finds that satisfaction among automobile and light vehicle consumers is up by 1.2 percent, tying 2009 for an all-time high average of 84.

Small Cars Are Getting More Comfortable To Sit In

2013 Ford Fiesta Interior test 2

Once considered "penalty boxes" for their cramped dimensions, cheap materials and lack of power, small cars have undergone a sort of renaissance in recent years. This is partly because high gas prices have convinced consumers that saving money is more important than rolling large, but it's also because manufacturers are making better quality small cars. A new study shows that this quality extends to the seating.

The new J.D. Power and Associates US Seat Quality and Satisfaction Study shows that small car consumers are now buying cars with more seat features than in previous years. Despite the likelihood of being on the frugal side, small car customers are increasingly checking option boxes like "heated seats" and "leather seats."

The study finds that small cars have captured more than a third (35.4 percent) of the market so far in 2012. It also shows that 27 percent of new-vehicle owners replaced their car with a smaller 2012 model.

2013 Chevy Spark Is July's Hottest Seller

On: Thu, Aug 23, 2012 at 3:19PM | By: Chris Weiss

2013 Chevy Spark test 2

As we learned last month, new cars tend to equate to fast-selling cars. This month, the all-new 2013 Chevy Spark benefits from being the new kid on the block. The tiny car knocks off the previous sport and luxury leaders to be the fastest seller of July.

In June, the Cadillac XTS and Subaru BR-Z tied for the title of quickest selling cars, according to data from Edmunds. Those two took a slide down July's chart to make room for the Chevy Spark. The $13,000 minicar took an average of just 6 days to roll off of dealer lots.

2013 Hyundai Genesis Gets More Infotainment, Loses Engine

2013 Hyundai Genesis Gets More Infotainment, Loses Engine test 2

Hyundai announced recently that the 2013 Genesis will get some updates and tweaks. The model loses the 4.6-liter V-8 engine and gains a new navigation system.

Hyundai implies that it has dropped the 4.6-liter engine to simplify the Genesis line-up. The 429-hp 5.0-liter V-8 will be offered exclusively on the high performance 5.0-liter R Spec, while the 333-hp 3.8-liter V-6 will power other Genesis models. In other words, Genesis buyers won't have an option of engine.

What Genesis buyers will have is an optional 64-GB Driver Information System with navigation and 8-inch display. The system includes an improved user interface with rotating dial with joystick-type function, enhanced voice recognition and redesigned navigation screen layouts. A new set of "hot keys" provides more direct control over certain functions.
