McLaren MP4-12C Is Neiman Marcus' Holiday Car

On: Sat, Oct 27, 2012 at 11:41AM | By: Chris Weiss

McLaren MP4-12C Is Neiman Marcus' Holiday Car test 2

Now that we've seen the P1, the MP4-12C is the other McLaren. But it's still a high-performance piece of mechanical engineering that most can only dream about owning. That's especially true when it's done up in a gorgeous special edition paint job, accessorized generously and offered as a Christmas gift for the rich and famous. The MP4-12C Spider is this year's Neiman Marcus car.

Each fall, Neiman Marcus gives us a car to drool over for the entire holiday season. Last year it was the Ferrari FF and the year before it was the Camaro Convertible. This year it's the Neiman Marcus Edition 2013 McLaren 12C Spider.

Ford To Remake Lincoln Brand

Ford To Remake Lincoln Brand test 2

Ford axed the Mercury brand in 2011 after realizing it was a forgotten brand too similar to Ford itself. Ford plans to prevent the same fate for its luxury brand Lincoln with a reinvention campaign to get started later this year.

Mercury had originally served as a betweener - a step up from Ford and a step below Lincoln. However, Mercury became too redundant with Ford, leading to its eventual discontinuation.

Volkswagen Debuts Up!-based Taigun Small Crossover

VolkswagenTaigun test 2

Small, rugged crossover seems to be the theme at the 2012 Sao Paulo Motor Show. Nissan showed the sub-Juke-sized EXTREM concept, and Volkswagen showed the Taigun concept, a small crossover concept that could become part of its New Small Family.

We had heard word that VW was considering a mid-sized crossover, but the Taigun is definitely not it. At 3,859 mm long, 1,728 mm wide and 1,570 mm tall, the Taigun is well smaller than the Tiguan, VW's current small crossover. Instead, this concept is the Up! crossover that we had heard rumor about. While it is compact overall, the car uses a long wheelbase that creates short overhangs and capable proportions.

Subaru BRZ To Get Turbo Engine test 2

The Subaru BRZ has already enjoyed all kinds of camera time, headlines and strong sales. Things should only get better for the sports car, as a new turbo engine is rumored to be in the works.

Automotive News reports that Subaru is working on a turbocharged direct injected version of the 2.0-liter horizontally opposed boxer engine used in the BRZ and Toyota GT 86/Scion FR-S. One of the main destinations for that engine will be the BRZ.

Chevy Teases Detroit-Bound C7 Corvette test 2

After letting rumors pile up for years, Chevy has provided a few basic details on the next-generation Corvette. The car will debut at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in January.

With the official debut still three months away, Chevy hasn't provided any real details that folks that follow such things want to know. It has, however, revealed the new Crossed Flags logo that will appear on the seventh-generation Corvette's hood.

Honda To Unveil Production NSX In Detroit test 2

When it first revealed the concept NSX at this year's Detroit auto show, Honda said that it planned to get the car to market within three years. So we weren't expecting to see the production NSX for another couple years. However, the latest reports say that Honda will have it ready in a few short months.

Special Edition Usain Bolt GT-R test 2

Usain Bolt already has plenty of gold hardware, but he's about to get a little more. Nissan is launching a one-off gold GT-R honoring Bolt's achievements on and off the track. The unique sports car is being sold off in a charity auction to benefit the Usain Bolt Foundation.

Nissan and Bolt teamed up before the Olympics in an ad campaign Nissan calls "WHAT_IF." Nissan has even bestowed Bolt with what we assume is an entirely ceremonial position called "Director of Excitement."

Ferrari F-70 Will Debut In Detroit

Ferrari F-70 Will Debut In Detroit test 2

Next to the McLaren P1, the most anticipated supercar of the year is easily the Ferrari Enzo successor, thought to be called the F-70. We had heard that the mid-engined car would debut this year, but we also heard it would be next year. It turns out both those were (kind of) right. Ferrari showed the carbon fiber monocoque that the F-70 is based on at the Paris Motor Show earlier this month, and it will debut the actual car at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in January.

The F70 is next in a lineage of high-tech, race inspired supercars like the Enzo and F40. That line has been silent since Ferrari ended Enzo production in 2004, so the F-70 is kind of a big deal for Ferrari and supercar fans.

Restyled Nissan GT-R To Debut Next Month

Restyled Nissan GT-R To Debut Next Month test 2

Nissan has a tendency of detailing next-generation GT-Rs in the fall. It did it with the 2012 version; it did it with the 2013 model; and it will do it again with the 2014 model. A new rumor indicates an early-November debut for the next year of Godzilla.

The rumor hails from the North American GT-R Owners Club and suggests that Nissan will reveal the new GT-R on November 2. The model will allegedly go on sale in Japan about two weeks after that debut.

One Month Until The Poison Sets In!

2013 SRT Viper test 2

It's only a month away. A mere flip of the calendar, and once again anyone with the credit and/or the cash can wander down the their local Dodge dealership and drive off in the newest version of arguably the most visceral American sports car to come off an assembly line since the Shelby Cobra. That's right, the fifth-generation Viper is only a few short weeks away from showroom floors. Now, that isn't necessarily breaking news, but the newest Viper does give us a headline that may not have been its originally intended purpose. But more on that later…

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive test 2

When you drive a Mercedes-Benz, you aren’t trying to blend in with the crowd. And you won’t blend with much if you drive the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive. Mercedes went to extensive lengths to make sure that the gas powered equivalent had nothing on the electric powered version. In fact, the SLS AMG coupe is the fastest electric car available on the market today.

With 740 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, the electric version edges out the gas version with its 563 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Although leading in power, the Electric Drive achieves a zero to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds compared to 3.8 seconds for the V8 motor. Top speed for the Electric SLS AMG is electronically limited at 155 mph vs. 197 mph for the V8. But who’s keeping score?
