Bentley Unveils New 2014 Continental Flying Spur test 2

Forged on Mount Olympus, and trimmed in the finest calfskins, and exotic woods from faraway lands. Behold Bentley’s latest creation: the 2014 Bentley Continental Flying Spur!

The gods are truly pleased with their new chariot. From inside its decadent chamber, they can feast upon ambrosia from the heated and cooled thrones, whilst their divine nectar is chilled to perfection in the rear bottle cooler. Entertainment is provided by cherubs strumming harp music across the 1,100 watt Naim audio system, and video can be enjoyed on the optional 10-inch rear screens.

eBay's 2013 "Top Five" Sales Lists Start Off Big With A Near-$1M Veyron Sale

Need proof that the economy is getting back on track? How about the first eBay Top Five list in history to boast a value in excess of two million dollars? That’s right, folks, this is the first time in (my) recorded history that a.) any car’s been reported sold on eBay for nearly $1M; and, b.) the five highest claimed automotive auction sales prices (within two consecutive months) have exceeded $2M.

Oddly enough, however—especially in the Lamborghini’s case—the top four here are in the most boring color schemes their respective manufacturers have to offer (not that #5’s hue is all that exciting, either). Then again, this may reflect buyers’ desires to remain a little less conspicuous in their consumption, at least until the average American can afford their own guilty automotive pleasures.

Unleash the (late-model, near-new) hounds!

Lamborghini Teases 50th Anniversary Special Edition

Lamborghini Teases 50th Anniversary Special Edition test 2

Truly special things happen when Lamborghini releases a limited edition model - things like the Sesto Elemento and Aventador J. So we can only imagine how special a limited edition model designed as a celebration of 50 years will be. Lamborghini has teased just such a model.

In December, Lambo CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Automotive News that the special edition will be part of Lamborghini's 50th anniversary celebration. He declined to elaborate, outside of saying that it will not be a retro or revival model.

How Far Will YOU Go To Impress A Date On Valentine's Day?

When your birthday falls on a gift-giving holiday it’s a double-edged bummer. Not only do you have to buy other people—or a special someone—presents, but they feel obligated to partially (or mostly) ignore the holiday in favor of just celebrating a “generic” birthday.

[Not that I could stomach another stamped sugar “conversation heart” (thirty-plus years of them is more than enough).]

But if there’s one positive thing about a V-Day B-Day it’s this: I’m not held to the same surprise-jewelry-, roses- and chocolate-giving standard as most males. That’s not to say I never had to do anything grand and romantic to win over my lady fair—though after fourteen years of marriage it’s hard to remember what-all I DID do—but I can honestly say I never lied, cheated, stole or “borrowed.”

Then again, I’m not British.

M6 Gran Coupe: The Perfect Compromise?

M6 Gran Coupe: The Perfect Compromise? test 2

If some is good, more must be better right? Well, maybe. It seems that at least in the minds of BMW execs, that theory has gotten some traction (pun intended). Understandably, BMW figures that if a potential buyer is going to drop a significant sum of cash on a luxury car, it should be exactly what they want. Enter the BMW M6 Gran Coupe -- a perfect halfway point for that indecisive speed freak that just can't decide between an M5 and an M6.

The M6 Gran Coupe, the newest model to join BMW's M lineup, should quite literally have been badged the M5.5 or perhaps the M5 1/2. It stands to reason that a car that is almost exactly half of two cars should split the difference, at least in our minds. Need more evidence before you support our M5.5 nameplate? No problem. How about the fact that the Gran Coupe does look like an M6 from the rear, but looks suspiciously like an M5 sedan from a profile view, while the front clip could very easily be confused for either or the M5 or M6. Also, consider this: The M6 Gran Coupe sits perfectly on the wheelbase of none other than the M5.

History Of The Corvette LT1

The New Corvette LT1, Historically Speaking test 2

As is no big surprise by now, the next Corvette is on its way and the world is a better place for it. The C7 aims to be a better than the current Corvette in just about any way it can, and from the looks of things, it just might accomplish that goal. One of the biggest contributors to any vehicle's success or failure is, of course, its engine. And when it comes to sports cars, the engine factor is exponentially more important than in say, your average entry-level subcompact.

Designated as the LT1, the heart of the C7 certainly looks like a success on paper -- an all-aluminum 6.2-liter pushrod V8 (thank the heavens), variable valve timing, an amazing 11.5:1 compression ratio, direct-injection (which is a first for a pushrod engine), and of course the matching 450/450 horsepower/torque rating which is nothing short of glorious. All of these figures, you are bound to see over and over in the coming months, and the LT1 will be heralded as the crown jewel of the Corvette kingdom. What you may not know however, is exactly where this LT1 sits in the GM small-block lineage, and just how far back the General harked for its newest engine's name.

Your Veyron Is Slow!

Your Veyron Is Slow! test 2

So for the precious few of you that were silly enough to drop the $1.1 million on the first generation of Veyron back in 2005, boy you must feel pretty stupid right about now. You must have thought that with 1,001 horsepower coming out of your quad-turbo W16 engine, you were nearly invincible right? And you probably also figured that your car's 253 mph top speed, which was the world record for a production car, was going to stand the test of time, didn't you? Or maybe you thought that with a 0-62 mph time of 2.46 seconds, you were king of world forever, right? Wrong.

Just a few years later, it turns out that Bugatti has decided to put their original Veyron to shame. While, the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport a few years ago upped the ante a bit, the newest iteration of the baddest production car on Earth just got exponentially nastier. Dubbed in what we wholeheartedly believe to be the epitome of redundancy, the newest Bugatti will be named the Super Veyron.

Infiniti Confirms 550-HP Flagship test 2

After much ado and "will it or won't it" was made about the possibility of an Infiniti flagship, Nissan's luxury brand has confirmed that it's working on a 550-hp "performance machine." The new car is part of a "massive product offensive."

The confirmation was made in a message sent to Infiniti owners and fans. The greater subject was a change in the company's model-naming structure.

Bentley Continental GT3 Racer Prepares For Track test 2

The Bentley Continental GT already has a bit of racing pedigree, including a world speed record. It's about to get much more. In September, Bentley announced that it would return to racing for the first time since 2003. The Crewe crew is preparing the Continental GT3 racer for a debut late next year.

Bentley unveiled the Continental GT3 Concept Racer at the Paris Motor Show and showed it again at the L.A. Show earlier this month. Its next stop will be the 2013 Autosport International exhibition next month, marking the race car's U.K. debut.

Chevy Is Rushing To Redesign The Malibu

Chevy Is Rushing To Redesign The Malibu test 1-1

The 2012 Chevy Malibu performed well in the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study earlier this year, but reviews haven't been so favorable for the redesigned 2013 Malibu. Despite having just given the model a full refresh, Chevy is already talking about a redesign.

116 Mpg-E Fiat 500e Electric Car Debuts In LA

116 Mpg-E Fiat 500e Electric Car Debuts In LA test 2

Fiat has already told journalists that it did not want to build the 500e electric car and expects to lose money on every model sold. So it must have been with begrudging chagrin that it debuted the new electrified mini car at the 2012 LA Auto Show.

The reason that Fiat bothered with the 500e at all is simple: meeting California's requirements for zero emissions vehicles. As such, the car will only be available in California when it launches next spring. Because electric cars remain a niche market and the 500 itself has struggled in the United States, we don't anticipate that many non-Californians will be heartbroken about the decision.
