Lexus About To Be Dethroned As Luxury Market King

On: Sat, Jul 30, 2011 at 8:51AM | By: Chris Weiss

Lexus About To Be Dethroned As Luxury Market King test 2

For 11 years, Lexus has enjoyed a role as the United States' leader in luxury car sales. Maybe it's because Lexus compares favorably to other options, maybe it's because you don't exude such an image of douchery in a Lexus as, say, a BMW, or maybe it's just because us Americans love us some Japanese automobiles. Whatever the case, Lexus has long been king.

But Lexus' reign is about to end. And all it took was a natural disaster of record proportions to bring it crashing down.

Confessions From The Americas Expedition

Americas 2011 Expedition test 2

Hot off the presses, Jeep just released a telling interview from the Americas 2011 Expedition. In case you haven’t been following on Twitter or, more specifically, on the expedition team’s SPOT GPS transmitter, the Americas Expedition is a father and son duo making a 25,000 mile road trip across the Western Hemisphere. Renato Costanzo and Renato Jack Costanzo left Miami in June and intend to reach a final destination of Argentina in their totally juiced 2011 red Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Among other notoriously appropriate features for expeditions, the Costanzo’s Jeep includes a roof tent, trailer, attached bicycles, safari rack, an incredible amount of headlights, snorkel, and roo bar.

McLaren To Change MP4-12C Based On Driver Input test 2

I highly doubt any customer complained about the lack of fruitiness in the McLaren MP4-12C. In fact, the words "fruity" and "McLaren" don't really belong in the same sentence, lest you happen to be transporting a fruit basket to a sick relative by way of MP4-12C. Still, McLaren has made a few alterations to its mid-engined muscle car, and at least one component has gotten "fruitier."

2012 BMW 6-Series Coupe: Decisions, Decisions, Decisions! test 2

Anyone buying a new car is probably well versed in the idea that when it comes to new transportation, it seems that the list of choices, options, and decisions to be made seems almost endless. Where one ends, the next begins, and where that one goes might actually counteract a previous decision, thereby making you start to reconsider that choice but then wonder how that choice will affect your next choice... the mind can take only so much. When it comes to a car like the 2012 BMW 6-Series, you're going to have to be ready to make more than a few decisions if you're thinking of buying one.

Ferrari Brings Free Maintenance Program To North America test 2

Got the coin to order a 2012 Ferrari but can’t afford to maintain it? Well, you no longer have to worry about that—at least not for the next seven years—thanks to the firm’s newly announced Genuine Maintenance Program.

You read that right; Ferrari North America is “happy to announce a new customer care service: clients ordering a 2012 Ferrari California, 458 Italia or FF from the authorized dealership network will be entitled to a free seven-year scheduled maintenance program.”

Fiat 500c Makes Everyday A Trip To Capri

2012 Fiat 500c test 2

With Fiat’s recent majority acquisition of Chrysler and Fiat dealerships popping up all over, I found myself wondering just how Fiat’s purchase would impact the Chrysler brand. In pursuit of that question, I dove head-first into periodicals and blogdom, but finally settled on one source which might settle my natural apprehension of foreign takeovers—the latest Fiat model to be released Stateside.

The Fiat 500c, named such because of the mere fact that it is a cabriolet, is an incredibly interesting-ooking vehicle. From the classic design to its functional interior, the Fiat 500c will undoubtedly remind consumers of the Fiats of yesterday. Although founded in 1899, Fiat really became a legendary brand after World War II for producing vehicles that war-ravaged Europe could afford. And because of Fiat’s incredible success in the last 60 years, their quirky and practical vehicles have left a uniquely Italian mark on fans throughout the globe.

First U.S. Pagani Huayra A Test Dummy?

First U.S. Pagani Huayra A Test Dummy? test 2

When Pagani announced that its all new, 700-hp Huayra was coming to the United States, it was sort of a big deal. The last Pagani model—the ever-powerful Zonda—was never sold in the States because it wasn't up to U.S. regulations. As the Zonda was the first Pagani ever made, that means that the Huayra is the first Pagani model to be offered in the U.S. You can almost hear the sounds of multi-millionaires with something to prove peeing their pants all over the country.

Hyundai's Next Gen(esis) Coupe Is On It's Way! test 2

If you have been paying any attention at all to the sports coupe market in the last couple years, you no doubt know that it is a segment teeming with options that are all very quick and very exciting. With cars like the Civic Si, MazdaSpeed 3, V6 Camaro, and Mustang (not to mention all the hype surrounding the upcoming Toyota/Suburu FT-S concept), it's no wonder that the Hyundai Genesis coupe is upping its ante in this high-stakes pool.

Surprise, Surprise! Groupon + Autos = FAIL

Surprise, Surprise! Groupon + Autos = FAIL test 2

So, it turns out that the locally-slanted, social-networking coupon behemoth known as Groupon is good at hawking small things like dinners and protein shakes, but not so good at hawking big purchases like $50,000 Cadillacs. One of the first experiments in Groupon-ing by an auto dealer has officially failed miserably.

2012 Nissan Leaf Gets Price Increase test 2

With Nissan increasing the price of next year's Leaf model by more than $2,000, the 2012 Nissan Leaf edges ever closer to the price of the 2012 Chevy Volt.

The 2012 Leaf SV base model will start at $36,050, a $2,420 increase over the 2011 Leaf's $33,630 base price. The 2012 Leaf SL starts at $38,100, representing a $3,530 increase over the 2011 Leaf SL. Nissan says the increased pricing is due to added equipment including quick-charging hardware and cold-weather upgrades.
