Next Range Rover To Get Sportier And More Luxurious test 2

With automakers like Bentley and Lamborghini threatening to make the Range Rover second fiddle in its own market, Land Rover appears to be planning to up its own game. Sources speaking with Autocar said that the next-generation Range Rover, scheduled to debut around this time next year, will be the marque's most advanced vehicle ever.

GM And BMW To Partner On Green Tech test 2

Green technology is a multifaceted challenge facing automakers today. With governments tightening emissions restrictions, automakers must find a way to make cleaner cars. But with green technologies like batteries and hybrid systems expensive to develop and not necessarily all that fast to catch on in the market, green technology R&D is a major investment that won't necessarily pay off for years.

One of the strategies many automakers are using in cleaning their fleets in a cost-effective manner is teaming up with other automakers and pooling research dollars. The latest partners are GM and BMW.

Poop Powered Bike, Never Leave The Throne Again

TOTO Neo test 2

As Japanese toilets become increasingly bacteria free, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing, one toilet manufacturer seeks to produce the ultimate human waste receptacle. TOTO, Japan’s largest toilet maker, aims to halve their CO2 emissions in bathrooms by 2017. In support of that, the company issued the TOTO Green Challenge which features a 600-mile cross-country tour via a toilet-powered motorcycle nicknamed Neo. By toilet-powered, we mean BioGas. And by BioGas, we mean feces.

Neo is a motorcycle powered completely by human excrement. The vehicle finds fuel in noxious fumes converted from the driver’s recently deployed bombs—giving new meaning to our previous notions of bathroom availability. Indeed, provided the driver has absolutely no shame, she can literally go whenever and wherever she wants. In this case, our hypothetical driver is female simply because TOTO chose a female to drive their waste harvester across Japan! Let’s hope that jumpsuit has a rear hatch.

Nissan Thinking Of Reviving Datsun Badge For Entry Level Line

Nissan Thinking Of Reviving Datsun Badge For Entry Level Line test 2

The Datsun brand dates back to the early 20th century and was taken over by Nissan. Nissan Motor Company marketed most of its vehicles under the Datsun brand between the time it was formed in 1933 and 1983, when Nissan officially replaced it with "Nissan" for all cars in the line. People old enough likely remember cars like the Datsun 240Z and 280Z, which were the predecessors to today's Nissan Z models, and pretty distinct sports cars on their own.

Rumor has it that Nissan is considering bringing the Datsun marque back. Datsun would in no way replace the well-established Nissan or Infiniti brands, but would be used for a new, entry level line of vehicles for developing markets.

Wanderlust Glory At Overland Expo 2012

Wanderlust Glory At Overland Expo 2012 test 2

Occasionally, an event so exciting, so dramatic, and bizarrely authentic graces the average auto enthusiast’s agenda. As a result, months of planning and preparation go into a single quasi-religious-type migration. For some, that trip might be to the Concours, and for others it could be Indy. But not all gearheads are sated by mere spectator events alone.

Queue: Aaron Copland’s Rodeo.

The Overland Expo, or OX as it’s affectionately called, is an adventurers' carnival: a three-day feast of workshops, exhibitions, and camping, topped off with a travel film festival. Fortunately for us, OX 2012 has been slotted for May 18 -20, leaving ample time to refine our adventuremobiles and work a nice crease into our safari hats.

Nissan Leaf Widens The Gap With Chevy Volt

Nissan Leaf Widens The Gap With Chevy Volt test 2

Though September proved to be a better month-over-month for the Chevy Volt, Nissan handily outsold Chevy and increased its overall sales lead. Nissan has now sold nearly double the number of Leafs as Chevy has Volts.

Nissan Leaf sales dropped in September, but still performed admirably at 1,031 units (versus 1,362 in August). Chevy, on the other hand, more than doubled month-over-month sales, leaping to 723 from 302 in August.

Chevy still lagged well beyond Nissan in total sales for the month, and Nissan widened its sales lead. Year-to-date sales are now at 7,199 Leaf models to 3,895 Volt models.

North American Car And Truck Of The Year Nominees test 2

The nominees for the North American Car and Truck of the Year were announced today. The list this year consists of 24 total vehicles—17 cars and seven trucks. Both winners will undoubtedly flaunt their prestigious award with millions of dollars’ worth of advertising, and why not? It certainly sounds good—“the North American Car (or Truck) of the Year”—but what does it mean?

That the winning vehicles were the absolute greatest and best car and truck of the entire year? Possibly.

About 50 U.S. and Canadian automotive journalists serve as judges for the “NACTOY.” Qualified people, for sure. “So why are you second guessing?” you may be wondering. Well, check out the list of nominees and we’ll meet back up afterwards.

Alfa Romeo Planning Sedan Based on Chrysler 300 test 2

In an attempt to boost its sales and earn some profitability, Alfa Romeo will be offering a raft of new models over the next few years. While the company was originally rumored to have an SUV in the works, the latest word is that that model is scratched. Instead, Alfa will add a flagship sedan.

The folks that bring you custom helicopters, branded credit cards, the ridiculous smart transport module, a line of "manly" perfumed products, and the occasional car, now bring you the Superdome.

I am not kidding.

When you think “Louisiana”, “NFL”, and “New Orleans Saints”, naturally your mind turns to fine German automobiles, right? Well, for the next decade it will, as Mercedes-Benz has paid an “undisclosed amount” for “official naming rights among other sponsorship benefits” for the aforementioned NFL team’s home stadium.

I'm still not kidding.

Jeep To Launch Grand Wagoneer In Two Years test 2

Well this isn't exactly the Jeep that we've been waiting for, but it's not bad news either. Jeep is reportedly working toward bringing back the Grand Wagoneer, a large, seven-seat flagship. The Wagoneer will headline a revamped Jeep line positioned to double Jeep's annual global sales.

The report originates from a leaked document that Chrysler/Fiat showed to a group of investors in Germany. The presentation detailed the next few years at Jeep, and the document shows four new vehicles.

The most interesting vehicle is the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, which will serve as the automaker's flagship. The Wagoneer will be built atop the Grand Cherokee/Dodge Durango platform.

Hyundai Working On 10-Speed Transmission test 2

Hyundai just does not want to leave the pages of auto publications lately. The Korean automaker is reportedly working on improving its high-end offerings with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The gearbox, which adds an extra two gears over the eight-speed equipped to the 2012 Genesis and 2012 Equus, is being developed for future high-end models.
