The Next Godzilla: 2013 Nissan GT-R Revealed

The Next Godzilla: 2013 Nissan GT-R Revealed test 2

The Nissan GT-R is not-that-arguably the best pound-for-pound (lb.-ft. for British pound?) sports car on the planet, offering supercar performance for a non-supercar price. Thing about owning any type of bragging rights, though, is that you don't keep them without evolving and getting stronger. Lay dormant and someone is going to pass you by.

Nissan clearly understands this, and for the second year in a row, it is upgrading the Japanese-spec GT-R with more horsepower and tuned handling.

The current Nissan GT-R took a leap from 485-hp to 523-hp and the 2013 model follows with an increase to 542-hp. The engine remains the familiar 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6, but it gets tuned for more output and increased efficiency.

McLaren MP4-12C = The Eco Supercar?

On: Fri, Nov 18, 2011 at 4:11PM | By: Chris Weiss

McLaren MP4-12C test 2

Okay, eco supercar is definitely a bit far. A moniker like that only belongs on something truly inspired like the Porsche 918 Spyder or Jaguar C-X75, and depending on how the numbers pan out, maybe not even them. But unlike its competitors, the 2012 McLaren MP4-12C is not subject to the U.S. gas guzzler tax, so in its own little way, McLaren is doing something for Mother Nature.

McLaren's EPA rating of 15 city and 22 highway isn't exactly competitive with mainstream cars, but according to reports, the car will not be subject to a gas guzzler tax. Competitors like the Ferrari 458 Italia and Lamborghini Gallardo are subject to the tax.

Infiniti Sports Car Concept test 2

During this LA-induced period of auto euphoria, Infiniti has dropped a bombshell set of teaser images depicting a car they believe will extend the potential for both high performance and low emission electric cars. Set to make an official debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 2012, this latest Infiniti sports car concept looks to be an attempt to bridge the gap between performance enthusiasts and eco-friendly hipsters.

Although little and less is currently known about whether Infiniti plans to go into full production on this vehicle, the company’s official press video offers some insight into their game plan. From the upcoming JX to Nissan’s GT-R, we are talking about a brand which constantly strives to be on the cutting edge of style and technology. This future high performance range-extending electric sports car is an effort to raise the bar even further – a sort of one-up in the game of Mother Nature-approved performance.

Press Release: New 2013 Cadillac XTS Control And Alert Strategy Assists Drivers

2013 Cadillac XTS test 2

On the all-new XTS, Cadillac will debut a network of cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors to bolster driver vision and awareness of road hazards and intervene to help avert potential crashes. This is the strategy Cadillac calls control and alert.

In some cases, Cadillac’s enhanced vision and sensing systems will act without the driver, such as though automatic braking based on information indicating potential obstacles.

The new XTS contains several features using visual and audible alerts designed to identify potential threats with sufficient warning for the driver to react and make changes. One example is the Safety Alert Seat feature, which vibrates either the left or right side of the driver’s seat cushion depending on the location of the impending concern. Intervening features, such as automatic braking, take action automatically if the driver is slow to initially react.

Four Exhaust Pipes?! Beetle R Shows Stateside

VW Beetle R Concept test 2

Since VW’s booming announcement that a Golf R model would be coming down the pipeline soon, US fans of Das Auto have waited patiently – toes tapping all the while. But before the Golf R has even hit US showrooms, VW has seen fit to release another race-inspired prototype cast from an altogether different mold. During the vehicle’s initial debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Beetle R landed in US headlines with an appropriate level of enthusiasm and jealousy. We wanted the seemingly more virile Beetle R, and we wanted it first.

The LA Auto Show may not be the first Beetle R showing, but at least we finally get a close-up.

New Corvette May Not Be As Radical As Expected

Corvette Concept test 2

For over a year, rumors have suggested that the next generation Corvette (C7) will be one of the most radical redesigns in the car's history. Some aspects, like the split-glass Stingray-style rear window, have been attributed directly to GM sources, while others, including the mid-engined layout, have been loose rumors. Between the official sound bites and rumors, it has long appeared that the C7 Corvette would be somewhat of a revolutionary redesign.

A new report this week suggest that the new Corvette will benefit from evolution, not revolution. While GM will look to update the Corvette, the sporty flagship will likely look a lot like the same, ol' Corvette that we see now.

GM Opens Engine Plant In Uzbekistan test 2

General Motors and its local joint venture partner UzAvtosanoat opened a new state-of-the-art engine plant in Tashkent today, 400 kilometers from the automakers’ vehicle manufacturing facility in Asaka. It represents GM’s most significant powertrain investment in Central Asia.

GM has a 52 percent stake in GM Powertrain Uzbekistan and its partner has a 48-percent stake. The facility, which covers 40 hectares, is GM’s first engine plant in Uzbekistan. It will produce more than 225,000 new fuel-efficient Ecotec 1.2L and 1.5L engines for use in GM small passenger cars sold around the world.

The first engines produced at the plant starting this month will be installed in the Chevrolet Spark mini car that commands 94 percent share of the Uzbekistan domestic market and is exported to Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Ford To Update MyFord Touch test 2

Despite offering a cutting-edge technological interface, the MyFord Touch system hasn't proven all that popular among reviewers and drivers. In fact, MyFord Touch was a big reason that Ford slid dramatically in Consumer Reports' recent reliability survey.

Ford hasn't let those complaints go unheard. It will simplify the MyFord Touch system beginning with the 2013 Escape, Flex and Taurus models.

The 2013 MyFord and MyLincoln Touch systems will get an easier-to-use interface, simplified graphics and faster touchscreen graphics, addressing some of the loudest complaints among existing users. Those existing users will be included in the upgrade, receiving the revised Touch system via a free software upgrade.

Race To The Finish: Chevy Volt Tops Nissan Leaf In October

Chevy Volt Tops Nissan Leaf In October test 2

After months of Nissan Leaf domination in the sales race between the Leaf and Chevy Volt, the Volt is back, beating the Leaf in October sales. With only two months to go before the full year is over, the Chevy Volt's sales are on the rise.

Chevy sold a total of 1,108 Volts in October, an increase from the 723 it sold in September. That number easily beat the 849 Leafs that Nissan sold during October. While Chevy has experienced a sales increase for two months in a row (it sold just 302 models in August), Nissan Leaf sales have slid during that same period (from 1,031 in September and 1,362 in August).

Despite those trends, the Nissan Leaf still has a major lead on the Volt in terms of full-year sales. After 10 months of 2011 sales, Nissan has sold 8,048 Leaf models compared to 5,003 Volts sold by Chevy.
