Chevy Volt Tops Customer Satisfaction test 2

In its first year, the Chevy Volt has already earned all kinds of awards, including World Green Car of the Year and North American Car of the Year. And it's not done yet. While not necessarily as prestigious as industry awards selected by top journalists, Chevy recently took home honors that should prove to be more valuable to the Volt's overall success: customer satisfaction.

In Consumer Reports' customer satisfaction survey, the Chevy Volt pushed perfection, taking home the very top spot.

Pigs Fly: Top Gear Names Fisker Karma It's Car Of The Year

Pigs Fly: Top Gear Names Fisker Karma It's Car Of The Year test 2

Well here's a little piece of left field debris: Top Gear Magazine has named the 2012 Fisker Karma its Luxury Car of the Year. For Karma that's some great news in a year that's brought mostly bad news. For Top Gear, it's an odd, head-scratching move that leaves us wondering.

Had any other magazine chosen the Fisker Karma, we would have understood, but the Top Gear franchise has a history of outright torturing and skewering electric cars of all kinds. Just refer to the pending Tesla v. Top Gear lawsuit for proof. They didn't go easy on the Nissan Leaf, either.

Of course, the Top Gear television show and Top Gear Magazine are two separate entities, and the magazine isn't the part known for its abuse of EVs. However, Top Gear television host James May selected the Fisker as his "Car of the Year." Even more surprising.

Nissan To Commission More High-Performance Nismo Models test 1-1

If the recent Juke R tells us one thing, it's that Nissan is itching for some performance models. You have to be just a little bored to come up with something as off-the-wall as a 530-hp small crossover.

Luckily for Nissan and its tuning wing Nismo, it won't be bored for long. The Juke Nismo Concept--a more realistic take on a high performance Juke--is the beginning of an increased role for Nismo. Nissan announced at the Tokyo Motor Show that it plans to start commissioning more Nismo models.

Smart For-Us Concept test 2

Smart has just released images of the company’s latest concept, an urban assault-type vehicle set to debut at next month’s Detroit Auto Show. Although a bit humorous in comparison with other modern pickup trucks, the Smart For-Us is targeted for young folks looking for a quasi-practical loading vehicle capable of handling at least two full-sized bicycles.

But, don’t get the wrong idea. The For-Us will be small, really small.

2013 Dodge Dart test 2

Over the past month details have slowly emerged about Dodge’s newest entry into the compact sedan segment. Discussions initially raged about possible design platforms, engine options, and finally the would-be Dodge’s future name. We know now, this latest Dodge will be officially labeled the Dart – channeling days of yore.

Along with a company-provided teaser website, the following images allow an opportunity for tiny Mopar fans to start salivating. What’s more, since we know the 2013 Dodge Dart will be based on Alfa Romeo’s Giulietta, we can get a basic idea of how the car might look by imagining the front and rear fascia images provided by Dodge tacked onto the body of an appropriate Alfa.

Toyota Has Supercharged GT 86 Deep In The Works test 2

Well that didn't take long at all. We finally moved past all the teasing and got the meat on the Toyota GT 86. And now...more teasing.

Despite the fact that the GT 86 just debuted days ago after two years of concepts, Toyota is already teasing the next GT 86 variation. The automaker has a high-performance GT 86 well underway.

Autocar spoke to chief engineer Tetsuo Tada who said that not only is a GT 86 coming, but Toyota is already testing prototypes. The car is being developed by Toyota Racing Developments, Toyota's in-house tuning branch.

I know there’s been more than a few of you who’ve questioned the logic behind Mercedes-Benz’s forays into non-car-related businesses like custom helicopters, branded credit cards, men’s perfume, Superdome naming rights and the ridiculous smart transport module.

Well, at least this latest “branding” opportunity won’t bring shame to the Benz name: to “underscore the importance of the cooperation entered into by Mercedes-AMG and Ducati one year ago” both companies have created unique—and matching—special-edition vehicles to put on display at the Bologna Motor Show, Dec. 3 -11.

The vehicles in question are a 2012 model year Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG convertible and a 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848 superbike. Both are painted in “Streetfighter Yellow” with matching black thin-spoke alloys and—in the case of the SLK, mostly—black upholstery.

But unlike most one-of-one auto show creations, you might actually have a chance of buying not just one—but both—of these….

National Motorists Association Says No To Red Light Cameras With $10 Grand

National Motorists Association Says No To Red Light Cameras With $10 Grand test 2

Red light cameras are one of the true thorns in the tires of motorists. Sure, if you're blatantly ignoring red lights and putting the public in grave danger, you deserve to be fined heavily. However, if you're a millisecond late on a left turn because some impatient yahoo in the opposing lane gunned it at the very last flash of yellow, you probably don't deserve to fall victim to the camera police.

Not surprisingly, the National Motorists Association, an organization devoted to promoting and protecting the rights of American motorists, doesn't like red light cameras any more than you. And it's putting its money where its mouth is.

Toyota Debuts Smart, New Slogans

Toyota Debuts Smart, New Slogans test 2

Given the failure of some automakers to come up with a catchy tagline, it's good to see that others still have it. Toyota is highlighting its new focus on sporty, fun cars with a pair of new slogans that should help it transition from its image of 'rock-solid reliable but dull' to 'fun and sporty once again'.

If you think back about a decade or two, Toyota was a serious force in the Japanese sports car market. It is, after all, the company that brought us the awesome Supra and the less awesome but more attainable Celica.

Since those cars disappeared in the earlier in the millennium, Toyota has been known more for its reliable commuter workhorses like the Corolla and Camry. It's also been known as a green innovator thanks mostly to the Prius. But it really hasn't been known for cars that are fun to drive.

Subaru And Lexus Come Out Tops In Residual Value Awards

Subaru And Lexus Come Out Tops In Residual Value Awards test 2

When purchasing a new car it's easy to get caught up in the features and conveniences, both big and small. Horsepower, standard equipment, interior comfort, available colors, and similar considerations often dominate the purchasing decision.

It's easy to get swept away by that perfect new car and forget a simple truth: No matter how attractive, comfortable and performance-driven the model is, it won't be your last car. No, one day you're going to have to sell it or trade it in, and in order to ensure you're in a position to get the next-gen attractive, comfortable and performance-driven car of choice, you'll want to make sure you get as much money out of it as you can.

That's where residual value comes in. ALG, a TrueCar subsidiary that specializes in depreciation and residual value data, recently released its 13th Annual Residual Value Awards.

Honda May Show NSX Successor Concept In Detroit

Honda May Show NSX Successor Concept In Detroit test 1-1

Honda is all about the future this week. The automaker has a futuristic-concept duo on display at the Tokyo Motor Show and reportedly has one more up its sleeve. No insignificant design study, the fourth concept is rumored to be a preview of the long-awaited Acura NSX successor.

An NSX successor has been in the works for years. The original version, which was to utilize a V-10 engine, was scrapped back in 2008. Then, rumors slowly grew around a newer, greener version, and eventually Honda chief Takanobu Ito was so excited he couldn't hold back anymore.

Ito told Autocar in September: "It is my wish that Honda engineers have the experience of developing a sportscar like the NSX in future. Within Honda, our engineers are already looking at developing such a car."
