TopGear to Air Lambrecht Chevrolet Auction Special on The History Channel

On: Fri, Sep 27, 2013 at 10:56AM | By: Teddy Field

TopGear to Air Lambrecht Chevrolet Auction Special on The History Channel test 1-1

If you're into cars, then you've probably heard a few 'urban legends' about an all-original Hemi Cuda, or some ultra-rare Duesenburg tucked away in some old guy's garage/barn. More often than not, those stories are just tall-tales. However, some wind up being true (just ask Jay Leno). But all the automotive legends that you've ever heard pale in comparison to the true story of Ray Lambrecht, the Nebraska Chevrolet dealer who stashed cars away for over 50 years. Now his monstrous collection is coming up for auction, and the car-comics from Top Gear USA are going to be there.

Wow: 500+ New & Used Vintage Cars Discovered At Closed Chevy Dealership

Wow: 500+ New & Used Vintage Cars Discovered At Closed Chevy Dealership test 1-1

In 1996, Lambrecht Chevrolet closed its doors for the very last time. Owners Ray & Mildred Lambrecht had served the residents of Pierce, Nebraska since 1946, and it was finally time to retire. At one time, this small Midwest dealership was one of Chevrolet's highest-volume stores. Ray would give people his best price right off the bat. If the customer wanted to haggle, he'd tell them, “If you can find a better price on this vehicle, then you should go get it.” He treated people the way he wanted to be treated, and that kept customers came back again and again.

During their 50 years in business, the Lambrecht's put countless Americans on the road, and they amassed a collection of over 500 cars in the process. Like an enormous time capsule, Lambrecht Chevrolet Co. is a glimpse into how our country used to be. And now, all those memories are about to cross the auction block.

Powerball winner plans to buy an early Acura NSX, Ayrton Senna NSX suddenly appears on eBay-Coincidence?

Most people have a list of things to buy, should the Lottery Gods ever smile upon them. I for example, would buy a hollowed-out volcano, a lifetime supply of Twinkies, a dynamite factory, and 365 Chevy Cavaliers. Then I would start each day by eating a dozen of those delicious little Hostess cakes, helicopter down from my volcano, and blow-up one of the most hateful cars ever made. However, recent Powerball winner Paul White has much more practical ideas for his $58 million dollars.

Crimes Against Car-manity #1: '84 Aspt Custom GTO

For shame.

Welcome to my latest web series on “Things That Should Earn You Serious and Prolonged Beatings.” Here you will read about the worst things people have done to otherwise perfectly-good cars—and yes, that includes crushing them—in the pursuit of fame, glory, money or the aforementioned threat of physical harm.

This installment covers the “1984 Aspt Custom GTO”, a vehicle that stained the rolls at Mecum Auction’s Kissimmee, FL, sale Jan. 18-27, and the many, MANY questions such a monstrosity presents. [Mass hysteria? Head injury? Anything?]

A Late-Fifties Five-Door Cowboy Pulls Nearly $90k At Mecum Verde Sale

In between the eras of real wood paneling and wood-look stickers there is a station wagon sweet-spot: the Nifty Fifties. Sure, that era was pretty sweet in general, but it’s special for another reason: Stylists actually styled these babies, rather than just tacked a cargo box on the aft end of a sedan.

As with anything, the results were mixed. But there are a few designs—like the 1957 Buick Caballero wagon Mecum sold at their Verde Collection event Feb. 22-23—that are high-water marks not just in station wagon styling, but styling, period.

[And with a sale price of $89,000, I wasn’t the only one that thought so…]

eBay's 2013 "Top Five" Sales Lists Start Off Big With A Near-$1M Veyron Sale

Need proof that the economy is getting back on track? How about the first eBay Top Five list in history to boast a value in excess of two million dollars? That’s right, folks, this is the first time in (my) recorded history that a.) any car’s been reported sold on eBay for nearly $1M; and, b.) the five highest claimed automotive auction sales prices (within two consecutive months) have exceeded $2M.

Oddly enough, however—especially in the Lamborghini’s case—the top four here are in the most boring color schemes their respective manufacturers have to offer (not that #5’s hue is all that exciting, either). Then again, this may reflect buyers’ desires to remain a little less conspicuous in their consumption, at least until the average American can afford their own guilty automotive pleasures.

Unleash the (late-model, near-new) hounds!

Orlando Festivals Of Speed November 30 - December 2 test 2

Last June, I told you to mark your calendars, and now, the time has almost arrived. The Festivals of Speed will be returning to Orlando, Florida November 30 - December 2.

If (like me) you're not a big fan of cold weather, then Orlando is the place to be come early December. And (again, like me) you enjoy delicious food, wine, cigars and stunning exotic cars, planes and boats, then Orlando is the only place to be! So even if you forgot to mark your calendars back in June, it's not too late to make it out to the Festivals of Speed.

There you’ll find the sights, sounds, smells and tastes you’d expect from the Festivals of Speed:

Friday (November 30), it all kicks off with the Luxury Lifestyle Jet Port Reception featuring delicious foods and drinks, a silent auction and poker tournament benefitting the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, a high-energy jazz orchestra and – of course – a collection of exotic cars at the Orlando International Airport.

Saturday (December 1st), the Festivals host an exclusive Wine Connoisseurs’ Dinner and Louis XIII de Rémy Martin tasting experience.

And Sunday (December 2nd), the Festivals conclude with the Motorsports Collection Display of more than 300 exotic cars, motorcycles, boats and aircraft at the beautiful Grande Lakes property.

Read on for more information ... and see you there!

Special Edition Usain Bolt GT-R

Special Edition Usain Bolt GT-R test 2

Usain Bolt already has plenty of gold hardware, but he's about to get a little more. Nissan is launching a one-off gold GT-R honoring Bolt's achievements on and off the track. The unique sports car is being sold off in a charity auction to benefit the Usain Bolt Foundation.

Nissan and Bolt teamed up before the Olympics in an ad campaign Nissan calls "WHAT_IF." Nissan has even bestowed Bolt with what we assume is an entirely ceremonial position called "Director of Excitement."
