BMW Teases Next-Gen M5

On: Thu, Mar 10, 2011 at 4:07PM | By: Chris Weiss

BMW M5 test 2

The world's attention may be on Geneva, but one automaker is moving a few months ahead and a few hundred miles north. BMW released a new teaser video for its M5 sedan last week. The new car will launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and is supposed to get more powerful and more efficient.

The M5: "a bold business car with the push of a button you have a sports car". That's how BMW M chief Kay Segler sums up the sporty new M5. And the footage of the camouflaged four-door straightlining and accelerating through curves in the snowy mountains of northern Europe definitely supports that description.

Ferrari Does Full Web Unveil of the FF

Ferrari Does Full Web Unveil of the FF test 1-1

Our two favorite Italian supercar makers are kind of taking opposite strategies in terms of their Geneva debuts. Lamborghini has been rather stingy with pictures, teasing the Aventador LP700-4 piece by piece, even in the face of major leaks. Meanwhile, Ferrari has been busy providing full pictures and video of its FF concept.

Last month, the Prancing Horse introduced the FF via a web event, and offered the first pictures. Then, it released some video and more pictures. And now it has held an official web debut in Maranello (apparently that's not what last month's event was?) and offered more pictures and more video. This time, the event was more like an auto-show reveal with a stage, audience of 700 Ferrari VIPs, speakers, and several live FFs—which makes me wonder: what's left for Geneva?

Warning - Infectious Videos Present

Ken Block Jump test 2

When you recognize that a video like “Chocolate Rain” by Tay Zonday made national news, you realize that viral videos impact and reflect society just as much as other, more credible, political and cultural stories. Of course, it’s likely that 30 seconds of gargantuan snot bubbles captured on tape fail to paint a pretty picture of how far we’ve come as a human race. But on the other hand these videos represent the true oddities and exceptional moments we’ve managed to share and appreciate with everyone else. We cherish these videos precisely because they’re so rare. Perhaps it’s a good sign that we can smile or laugh at ourselves. Without further adieu, here are some of the most popular, most entertaining viral automotive videos in cyberspace. Please attach and adjust your protective face mask to avoid the transmission of IVD, or Infectious Video Disease.

Porsche Panamera S Hybrid Gets Two Video Parts

Porsche Panamera S Hybrid test 2

To introduce a radical idea to hybrid technology. That, in a nutshell, is why Porsche is building the Panamera S Hybrid. Or, at least, that's what Porsche's marketing team came up with for a new Panamera promo video. Which brings me to another point: there's a new Panamera S Hybrid promo video. In fact, there are two. After announcing the car last week, Porsche is now on to advertising the Panamera S Hybrid before its 2011 Geneva Motor Show debut.

Babes and Cars; Automakers Tap Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue For Advertising

Babes and Cars; Automakers Tap Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue For Advertising test 1-1

Hot, scantily clad ladies and hot cars go together like peanut butter and jelly. It's why they're both featured in men's magazines. It's why every auto show has its fair share of sexily dressed models on the floor. And it's why car pictorials often have a bikini-clad model stretched over a cherry-red hood.

Well, this month a few automakers are putting the synergy between hot girls and hot cars to work. Both Nissan and Lexus have partnered up with an annual classic in sexy ladies: the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Mush, Mush! Spy Video Of Ferrarri FF Captured By Dog Sled

Mush, Mush! Spy Video Of Ferrarri FF Captured By Dog Sled test 1-1

We know, from the official pictures that Ferrari released last week, that the Prancing Horse is intent upon showing off its all-new 4WD system. The FF concept is, after all, the first  Ferrari to get four-wheel drive. And the quickest way to convey a car's all-wheel torque vectoring capabilities is to show some video and pictures of the car in the snow.

But what happens when your beautiful, all-new supercar concept is snow-testing alongside a dog sled? Well, apparently the world gets a sweet spy video courtesy of the musher in question.

Killer Leak: Two-Minute Clip Of Lambo Aventador LP700-4

Killer Leak: Two-Minute Clip Of Lambo Aventador LP700-4 test 1-1

Lamborghini may really be dragging its heels in teasing the Aventador LP700-4 leading up to Geneva, but luckily the leaky auto-media infrastructure is moving a little quicker. While the Raging Bull has been content to present the Aventador one piece at a time over months upon months, photos, and videos have been leaking like a condemned building, giving us a much better look at the new top dog in Sant'Agata Bolognese.

The latest video, which was first leaked on Dutch website Autogespot.com, comes at a time when official Lamborghini media releases left us staring at the light, but not particularly visually stunning, Aventador chassis. It's two minutes worth of fast action with some of the best looks at both the exterior and interior of the Aventador that we've seen. Unfortunately, that headache-inducing squiggly camo is still all over the body, but it's still an exciting look of the 700-hp supercar speeding through a snow-covered Italian countryside.

Volkswagen Releases Blooper Reel For Superbowl Commercial

Volkswagen Releases Blooper Reel For Superbowl Commercial test 1-1

Volkswagen's "The Force" Super Bowl advertisement's was one of the biggest hits of the game. In fact, by several sources' counts, it was the best commercial of the entire day.

Not missing the opportunity to capitalize on the buzz stemming from its hit commercial, Volkswagen has released a short, one-minute clip of the bloopers from the video. If you were enamored with the pint-sized Darth Vader, played by six-year-old actor Max Page, you won't want to miss this clip.

Video: Close Up With The Pagani Huayra

On: Tue, Feb 1, 2011 at 12:26PM | By: Chris Weiss

Video: Close Up With The Pagani Huayra test 1-1

If you want to get close to the Pagani Huayra, you can either buy yourself a ticket to Geneva and see it at its world debut in March, wait for Pagani to bring it here to the States, or jump the break and watch a short but sweet video clip that takes you around the exterior and inside the cabin. The choice seems clear.

Shortly after Pagani showed the Huayra last week, Evo released this video clip of the hands-on tour. The lucky guy gets to brush up against the curvy body, sit inside the plush, leathery interior; get hands-on with the touchscreen display; play with the adjustable air flaps, and start the 700-hp V12. Unfortunately, he's indoors, so there's no actual driving footage, but the minute-and-a-half-long clip is worth it just for the close look at the Huayra.

Video: Ferrari FF Concept Takes The Track

Video: Ferrari FF Concept Takes The Track test 1-1

Love it or hate it, the Ferrari FF concept is coming and it's replacing the 612 Scaglietti. Ferrari did an internet unveil of the concept FF last Friday and plans to bring it to the Geneva Motor Show. This week, we got our first look at the uncovered FF in action thanks to a testing video from the Circuito di Balocco in Italy. Though the video watches more like a teaser or commercial, it's the first live action we've seen of unmasked Ferrari shooting brake, and it looks pretty smooth taking the curves under the stars.

New Video Of The Tesla Model S test 1-1

Next year, the Tesla Roadster will get a larger brother. Originally shown in 2009, the Tesla Model S is an electric sedan that will package Tesla's electric powertrain know-how in a more practical, more affordable car for the masses. Tesla is still refining and developing the Model S and has released a new video of the latest version of the sedan.

The Model S here is an Alpha version that Tesla is currently testing with plans to build the Beta version later this year. The newest prototype features much of the same styling as the original, but gets a few changes, including the new air intakes up front. View the video after the jump.
