AmoritzGT DoniRosset Brazilian Supercar

On: Tue, Jun 12, 2012 at 3:02PM | By: Chris Weiss

AmoritzGT DoniRosset Brazilian Supercar test 2

Brazil may not be known for its supercar infrastructure, but that could all change if more cars like the AmoritzGT DoniRosset start showing up. Despite its clunky name, the supercar is an exciting, stylish ride. And what more could you expect from the land of thongs, bikini waxing and lusty supermodels.

The DoniRosset may not supplant Adriana Lima as the most beautiful thing to come out of Brazil, but luckily, it's not really competing with her. And in terms of the real competition, the DoniRosset can hold its own. While there's some clear influence from Lamborghini in the overall shape, and maybe even a little Marussia in the face, the car is original and attractive enough to not dismiss as 'another derivative supercar the world didn't need.'

Ford Rivals P.T. Barnum's Marketing Prowess, Via F-150 SSV Package

Ford F-150 Fire Rescue test 2

References to mid-19th Century circus advocates aside, Ford is a company known for relentless self-promotion. Perhaps surprisingly then, in many cases Ford’s colorful advertising is backed by products which command the respect and credibility so boldly called for. But, on the flip side, the company’s crackshot public relations team occasionally over fires the marketing cannon. Ford’s recent F-150 Special Services Vehicle Package press release falls into category two.

Pictured in the press release are two images of Ford F-150s, presumably equipped with the Special Service Vehicle Package, themed appropriately for Fire Rescue and Police. And a quick scan of the release’s headlines suggests that the optional package will come at “no-charge” to fleet customers.

Of course that doesn’t mean fleet customers will get Fire Rescue or Police equipped vehicles at no charge. That would make far too much sense. In this instance, what you see…is not what you get.

Cobra For A New Generation? Puritalia Teases 427

Puritalia Teases 427 test 2

If you find the idea of "American muscle meeting Italian design" intriguing (personally, we're quite happy with American muscle meeting American design and Italian muscle finding its way to Italian design), you may want to keep posted to auto news over the course of the next month. Puritalia has teased a new sports car that it says combines those two iconic qualities.

There's about a month to go before the official debut, according to the teaser website that Puritalia set up. Other than that, there are no official details on the site. In fact, until today, we'd never even heard of Puritalia.

BMW Zagato Coupe Unveiled

BMW Zagato Coupe test 2

Last year around this time, we saw the Aston Martin V12 Zagato for the first time at the Concorso d‘Eleganza Villa d’Este in Lake Como, Italy. This year brings a new Ville d'Este and a new Zagato. BMW introduced the Zagato Coupe at the festivities this past weekend.

BMW and Zagato collaborated closely to build the one-off handcrafted masterpiece. The goal was to craft a "BMW seen through the eyes of Zagato," an aero-optimized, steet-legal car that could hit speeds like a track car but still meet all the legal obligations of an everyday driver.

VW To Go Retro With Beetle Convertible Launch

VW To Go Retro With Beetle Convertible Launch test 2

The Beetle may be a timeless design, but it's a car that evokes a certain amount of nostalgia for decades gone by. Stare at it long enough and you may find yourself transported to Woodstock or the 1970s gas crisis. If new rumors hold truth, Volkswagen will play upon the Beetle's nostalgia when it launches the new Beetle convertible. Instead of just launching the production convertible, it will launch at least three special edition models.

According to Car & Driver, the special edition convertibles will play up the Beetle's illustrious 74-year history. Based on some trademark filings, the magazine expects each one to be dedicated to a given decade - 50s, 60s and 70s. Volkswagen filed European trademark applications for the numeric and written designations for those decades, so it looks likely that it will show convertibles styled specific to each decade.

Volkswagen Unveils CC 'R-Line'

On: Tue, May 29, 2012 at 2:04PM | By: Chris Salamone

Volkswagen CC R-Line test 2

On Sunday, Volkswagen of America revealed a new sportiest version of the CC four-door coupe to debut physically at the Auto Mobil International car show in Leipzig on June 1st, the CC R-Line. In addition to all those perky German technologies associated with the CC Sport Plus, the R-Line will be mated to an optional six-speed manual transmission, beefier lower air intake, upgraded lights, and aggressive aesthetics.

If there’s one thing we’ve always appreciated about the Volkswagen CC, it’s the vehicle’s sophisticated style – often fitting in with equally distinctive, but significantly more expensive makes. The R-Line model appears to take style to a whole new level, aimed to find the perfect nexus of sport and luxury.

Nissan Juke R Tackles Norwegian Ice (Video)

Nissan Juke R Tackles Norwegian Ice test 2

The Nissan Juke R is one of those vehicles that when it acts, we watch - partly because it's just such a cool little car and partly because it's usually doing cool things. Like racing supercars. And tearing up ice in Norway.

After his stint racing around the streets of Dubai, Nissan driver Lucas Ordonez got sent to the other end of the world. Instead of hot asphalt and hot supercar engines, he's battling cold ice on the Losna Isbane Ice Track in Norway. As you might expect, the suped-up small crossover looks all kinds of comfortable shaving ice and fishtailing across the great north.

Lamborghini Aventador J -- Showstopper!

Lamborghini Aventador J -- Showstopper! test 1-1

It seems pretty clear that something we can all agree on is that it's about time Lamborghini really started making some flashy cars.  Thankfully, it seems like those lazy Italians over in Sant'Agata Bolognese got their collective act together and created a car that just might make a little noise among the supercar faithful.  The Lamborghini Aventador J made a couple folks start talking at the Geneva motor show a few weeks ago -- don't worry, we wondered why too.  Normally, pretty low key cars, the Aventador J are a true barchetta in the classic sense.  The low windscreen/windshield rises up off the body of the hood about as high as your average Hot Wheels car.  It is so low that the driver is actually required to wear a helmet in order to drive it legally on the street.

Ferrari Confirms Enzo Hybrid

Ferrari Confirms Enzo Hybrid test 2

It was really just a formality at this point, but Ferrari has officially confirmed that the F70 Enzo successor will be a hybrid. Ferrari spiced up an otherwise dull press release by confirming the F70 for debut by year end.

Ferrari said in a press release about its first quarter earnings: "At the end of the year, we'll also be unveiling the new Enzo, a limited series model and our first ever hybrid car."

Golf R Fans Faceoff For Ultimate Fan Experience

On: Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:00AM | By: Chris Salamone

2012 VW Golf R test 2

The date is set. Volkswagen’s Golf R Ultimate Fan Experience competition will end today, May 14, 2012. Unlike other, gimmicky pseudo-advertisement, commercial competitions, the Golf R Ultimate Fan Experience gives contestants a prize worthy of note: seven days, six nights in Germany with a tour of VW’s global headquarters and an actual test track run on Nurburgring.

Entering the running is as simple as downloading an official ‘Drivers Forever’ application and describing why you want to win in less than 256 characters. As a disclaimer, though, if you need to be reminded that the number 256 is incidentally the same amount of horsepower found on the 2012 Golf R, then perhaps this competition isn’t for you.

Ferrari Takes Heat Over Smoking Donuts On Great Wall Of China

Ferrari Takes Heat Over Smoking Donuts On Great Wall Of China test 2

In what must be one of the biggest publicity and advertising misfires in the modern world, Ferrari - more specifically one of its dealerships - is in some hot water with the Chinese government. The problem? Someone from a Nanjing-based Ferrari dealership decided it prudent to do tire-smoking donuts atop the Great Wall of China.

The incident occurred when the dealership rented out a piece of the Great Wall of China in doing publicity for the new special edition 458 Italia. Apparently just getting some footage of the 458 Italia on and around the Great Wall wasn't enough for at least one member of this braintrust, because he got behind the wheel and proceeded to do donuts, burning tire marks into one of the greatest architectural achievements in the history of man. Good job, bro.
