On: Mon, Feb 7, 2011 at 7:03PM | By: Chris Weiss

Lotus Evora test 2

With six new concept cars previewing production models presented at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Lotus already had its hands full. But new reports indicate that the carmaker may have one more project, and it's taking precedence over the other cars. According to Autocar, Lotus has fast-tracked a new Evora, which will get a more hardened look with angular nose. The new Evora is expected to launch this year, preceding the raft of new models that will debut starting in 2013.

The Ford GT May Be Back, Baby! And It's a Hybrid! test 1-1

America is slowly becoming the new Italy. The boot may have Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Pagani, but we have SSC, TranStar Racing, a new Dodge Viper, and now...a new Ford GT. Allegedly. Yes, I'd rather have the former three, but those four ain't bad. According to a recent report on Auto Express, Ford is deep in the works on an all-new GT supercar that will pack more power and performance than ever. And it will pack it in a hybrid powertrain.

According to the rumor, the new mid-engined car will have a hybrid powertrain similar in design to the Porsche 918 Spyder. A supercharged V8 around 600-hp will provide primary motivation, but will get an extra power boost from a front-mounted electric motor when needed for acceleration.

A Dance With The Devil test 1-1

If you are one of the lucky few on the planet to be in the market for a new Lamborghini, there is something you need to know before you walk into the dealership of the raging bull. Buying a Lamborghini is not just about buying a pretty car or a status symbol, it’s not just about having a lot of money to invest into a car that is fast, no, no, my friend, there is a lot more at stake than just a monthly car payment that exceeds a good deal of mortgage payments. No, when you plunk down the equivalent of a blue-collar life savings as a down payment for one of these beasts, you are making a deal with the devil.

Bentley To Offer Two V8 Engines test 1-1

When Bentley introduced the 2011 Continental GT back in the fall, it indicated that the model would be available with a V8 in addition to the W12 engine. Since that time, we've learned that  a 4.0-liter V8 is being developed for the car in conjunction with fellow VW automaker Audi. New rumors out of Europe now point to two V8 engine options that will be made available to Continental GT buyers next year.

Officially Weird: Ferrari FF Shooting Brake test 1-1

The Ferrari codenamed F151 will soon replace the 612 Scaglietti. It's expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March and has been identified as a shooting brake update to the 612. Some recent spy shots give us an idea of the shape of the car's exterior and what it will look like inside. And artist Jon Sibal took it one step further in providing a rendering of what the hot, red 612 with pushed-back cabin will look like on the Geneva showroom floor. Not surprisingly, it'll look pretty damn good.

Donkervoort Spreads Christmas Cheer With Teaser Card test 1-1

If you're going to get a Christmas card that doesn't include bills or a check, it may as well be from a maker of rare, retro cars. And depending upon the total amounts of the checks and bills in other holiday cards, the Donkervoort Christmas card may very well have been the best card of the entire season. Donkervoort didn't send out money or gift cards to those on its card list, but it did send out the next best thing: a teaser picture of its upcoming D8 GTO planted right on front.

Ferrari To Bring Hybrid 612 HY-KERS To Geneva test 1-1

Ferrari boss Luca de Montezemolo  told the media last week that Maranello is readying a new car for the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, which gets underway in March. The ever-speculative auto media suggests that this new model is likely the 2012 612 Scaglietti. Further, the Montezemolo's statement suggests that instead of a traditional gas powertrain, the newest member of the Ferrari family may very well be updated with a HY-KERS system similar if not identical to the one shown on the 599 GTB at last year's Geneva show.

BMW Vision EffecientDynamics To Be Called the i8 in Production

BMW Vision EffecientDynamics To Be Called the i8 in Production test 1-1

Well, we're very happy to report that soon we may never have to write "Vision EfficientDynamics" again. That too-big-to-effectively-fit-on-the-rear-of-a-car collection of consonants, vowels and randomly combined words may eventually be replaced by the much more type-friendly "i8," if recent Internet rumor-mongoring is to be believed.

Maybach and Aston Martin to Team on Cars/Engines test 1-1

Audi and Bentley, meet Aston Martin and Maybach. According to a report originating in Financial Times, Aston Martin and Maybach may very well be the next high-powered, high-end car companies to team up on vehicles. More accurately, the partnership would be a broader team-up between Aston Martin and Daimler.

More Official Pictures of Lotus' Concepts

More Official Pictures of Lotus' Concepts test 1-1

At the Paris Motor Show, Lotus opened its floodgates and showed the world six brand-new concepts. The concepts were a look into the retooled future in Hethel, a future that will focus on hard-lined, performance-oriented super—and sports—cars, rather than the small, light, modestly powered two-seaters like the Elise and Exige models that have dominated Lotus offerings in the 21st century. At show time, we got to know each concept both inside and out.

If we had one complaint about Lotus concept barrage, it would have to be a few of the color choices. The dark green that coated the Esprit—the most anticipated of Lotus new models—just didn't quite accentuate its curves or good looks.

Luckily, Lotus has righted that small wrong, in releasing new photos of not only the Esprit, but also the new Elise, Elan, and Elite on its Facebook page. According to Autocar, the company will also update the page with new Eterne and City Car pictures in the near future, rounding out its six-car line-up.

El Camino To Make a Return? GM Considering It

El Camino To Make a Return? GM Considering It test 1-1

The pickup car market really never recovered from the loss of the El Camino back in the late 80s. Sure, we have recently had things like the Subaru Baja, but that just didn't have the rugged, muscular looks and sheer utility of an old clunker like the Camino. And I fear that until the El Camino—or at least something very similar—returns, the pickup car will never get back to its glory days.

Good news on that front: a Jalopnik report citing three GM sources indicates that the General is carefully considering bringing back a legit pickup car. And it's likely going to be a Chevy that may just bear the El Camino nameplate.

The pickup car is coming back, baby! (Maybe.)
