Mitsubishi Changes Gears, Lancer Lives On!

On: Mon, Mar 21, 2011 at 11:13AM | By: Chris Salamone

2011 Lancer Evoluton MR test 2

Not so long ago Mitsubishi announced the end of the most iconic and spectacularly fun vehicle in their lineup. Shaken by the news, auto enthusiasts rose up and cried out in disbelief. How could the famed Mitsu Evo, the car everyone remembers as Mitsubishi’s most fascinating vehicle, be canceled after 10 generations? Apparently those screams of outrage were heard and affected the Lancer’s future. Mitsubishi has recently and appropriately decided to “evolve” the Lancer, rather than an outright cancelation. The initial plan to scrap the vehicle was supposedly related to changes in the market. As a result, in the future we can expect to see new models with better fuel efficiency in response to market demands. Hopefully performance will not be sacrificed at the same time.

Muscle One-upmanship Continues, Next Mustang Shelby GT500 To Get 600 Ponies test 1-1

Though mile-per-gallon competitions have provided a contemporary side show for the muscle car wars, in the end, it's all about pure, unadulterated power. At the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, Chevy raised the bar with the all-new 2012 ZL1, a 550-hp beast of a Camaro. Now, rumors indicate that Ford isn't going to sit idly and let Chevy steal its thunder. Car and Driver reports that the next Mustang Shelby GT500 may just leap well over 600 hp.

Alfa Romeo 4C To Get Porsche Power?

Alfa Romeo 4C test 2

Despite a strong denouncement of an Alfa Romeo sale by Sergio Marchionne himself, media reports indicate that Volkswagen is still interested in the brand. And one of the more interesting aspects of the rumors is that Volkswagen would share Porsche engines with its newest brand, should an Alfa deal between Fiat and VW ever come to pass. According to an Autocar report, Porsche would share its new flat-four with Alfa, an engine that is still being developed.

At the Detroit Auto Show in January, Fiat Chairman John Elkann made the automaker's disinterest in selling Alfa Romeo pretty black-and-white: "We would not sell Alfa even if we were offered tons of money."

Mini Rocketman Concept test 2

Don't expect to see the Union Jack-adorned roof on the road, but Mini is planning on siphoning some of the construction and technological elements of its recent Rocketman concept into its production line. The return to small previewed by the Rocketman concept will be a theme that appears in new production models over the next several years.

The design language of the Rocketman is expected to influence new coupe and convertible models that will debut in 2013.

VW Leaning Toward Bulli Microbus Production

On: Sat, Mar 12, 2011 at 11:20AM | By: Chris Weiss

VW Leaning Toward Bulli Microbus Production test 1-1

In 2001, Volkswagen presented the Microbus concept, which it had planned to bring to production at the time. Unfortunately, production plans were scrapped earlier in the decade and it took years before VW gave it a second try with the Bulli concept, released earlier this month at the Geneva Motor Show. Also unfortunate, Volkswagen's latest Microbus concept steps away from the classic design in resituating the engine to the front, a move that changes not only the driving dynamics, but also the look of the bus. Still, a Bulli is better than no bus at all.

And it looks like VW will inject some flavor into the van market. According to media reports, the German automaker is planning to bring the Bulli to market.

Bentley Nixing Entry Level Model, Leaning Toward Other Options

Bentley Nixing Entry Level Model, Leaning Toward Other Options test 1-1

Rumors of new Bentley models have been surfacing for months now and the latest indicates that Crewe has no plans of watering its ultra-premium line down with a sub-Continental, entry-level model. Instead, Bentley will work within its current price range to offer something new but equally high-performing and luxurious. What exactly that will be remains a mystery, but there are several possibilities.

Alfa Romeo Unveils Sexy, U.S.-Bound 4C Coupe

Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe test 2

Alfa Romeo has debuted its 4C sports coupe at the Geneva Motor Show. While it's in concept form at the show, the Italian firm has detailed plans to produce the car beginning late next year. Joining that good news is even better news: the car will be among those Alfas getting exported to the United States. So, interstate highways and byways will soon have a little bit more curvy Alfa flair.

The 4C is powered by a mid-mounted, direct-injected, 1.8-liter turbo four that will put out more than 200 horses. The engine is mated to a TCT twin-clutch automatic gearbox and powers the rear wheels.

Warning - Infectious Videos Present

Ken Block Jump test 2

When you recognize that a video like “Chocolate Rain” by Tay Zonday made national news, you realize that viral videos impact and reflect society just as much as other, more credible, political and cultural stories. Of course, it’s likely that 30 seconds of gargantuan snot bubbles captured on tape fail to paint a pretty picture of how far we’ve come as a human race. But on the other hand these videos represent the true oddities and exceptional moments we’ve managed to share and appreciate with everyone else. We cherish these videos precisely because they’re so rare. Perhaps it’s a good sign that we can smile or laugh at ourselves. Without further adieu, here are some of the most popular, most entertaining viral automotive videos in cyberspace. Please attach and adjust your protective face mask to avoid the transmission of IVD, or Infectious Video Disease.

Three New Bentleys In Store, Will Feature Porsche Platforms test 1-1

We know that Porsche has been tasked with developing the architecture for Volkswagen Group sports cars and large, premium sedans, and it looks like one of its first jobs under that responsibility will be to develop the underpinnings of several new Bentleys. According to a report by Auto Express, Bentley will be launching three new vehicles over the next several years, and they are all set to be planted on Porsche underpinnings.

Alfa Romeo To Introduce Small, Sporty "4C GTA" in Geneva

Alfa Romeo To Introduce Small, Sporty "4C GTA" in Geneva test 1-1

The 450-hp 8C Competizione was a truly beautiful, exotic car. But with a limited, 500-model production, it didn't exactly help keep Alfa's head above water during its production run in 2007/2008. Alfa wasn't earning a profit then and it's not earning a profit now. And in the midst of constant sale rumors, the Italian automaker needs a new game plan.

Rumors indicate that part of Alfa's new game plan will look a lot like the 8C, only smaller and much less expensive. The Italian marquee is reportedly planning on bringing a 4C GTA concept to the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

Lotus Evora To Get Fast-Tracked Makeover

On: Mon, Feb 7, 2011 at 7:03PM | By: Chris Weiss

Lotus Evora test 2

With six new concept cars previewing production models presented at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Lotus already had its hands full. But new reports indicate that the carmaker may have one more project, and it's taking precedence over the other cars. According to Autocar, Lotus has fast-tracked a new Evora, which will get a more hardened look with angular nose. The new Evora is expected to launch this year, preceding the raft of new models that will debut starting in 2013.
