Kia Gets Juice: Two V-8 Concepts Coming in Next Year test 1-1

Korean cars have really come a long way in the past few decades. Growing up, I remember the brand "Hyundai" being equivalent to "cheap, Korean junk." But, more recently, Hyundai has established itself as a manufacturer of award-winning and even luxurious automobiles like the Equus and Genesis. It's a whole 'nother Hyundai.

A Hyundai Supercar In The Works?

A Hyundai Supercar In The Works? test 1-1

That's no typo in the title. Hyundai, not Honda. Those of us older than 15 probably can't quite shake the feeling that the term 'Hyundai supercar' is a big, stinking oxymoron. But these days, Hyundai has proved that it can compete with the likes of the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro, so why not up the ante to the likes of the Chevy Corvette and Nissan GT-R? A new rumor indicates that's exactly what Hyundai hopes to do.

More Juice Behind Cadillac Flagship Rumor test 1-1

Rumors that Cadillac has a super-XTS flagship sedan planned are warming up. The latest speculation indicates that GM is developing a new, rear-wheel platform for an XTS topper to be debuted within about 5 years. It supports some information that we've already heard.

Polestar Performance Prototype Presages Volvo On PCP?

If you thought "Nova"—which Spanish-speakers could read as "no va" or "doesn't go"—was an interesting unintended translation, wait until Volvo finds out what the acronym for its proposed “performance division” means here in the U.S.A.

Yes, if what many (other) sources are saying is true, Polestar wants future performance Volvos to “get wet” on the “sherm”, as the proposed “Performance Concept Prototype” badges will naturally be abbreviated to read “PCP.”

Yes, the fastest Volvos will wear logos that recall what 60 Minutes and People magazine called the “number one” drug problem in the United States in 1978. I’m not sure why the beloved—by me at least—Swedish automaker is apparently dropping its perfectly-good “R” appellation, but as “crack cocaine” and “methamphetamine” were taken, I can see why they landed on the name they did.

Flying Spyder; The 2012 Audi R8 GT

Flying Spyder; The 2012 Audi R8 GT test 1-1

If you missed out on the first 333 copies of the very impressive, very powerful, very fast Audi R8 GT a couple months ago, don't feel bad because we did too. But all might not be lost. Audi is going to give us all another 333 chances to own the baddest car in their lineup, except this one comes without a roof. The 2012 Audi R8 GT Spyder promises to be one of the most exciting open air cars we've laid eyes on in a long time.

Much like its fixed-roof sibling, the GT Spyder takes what an "ordinary" R8 offers and ratchets it up a few notches towards 'race'. The GT Spyder uses the same 5.2-liter V10, but thanks to a few tweaks here and there, it produces a healthier 552 horsepower (up 27 ponies) and 398 pound-feet of torque (versus seven pound-feet). Now, obviously that little power increase alone is not enough to warrant a new model designation, but it is nice to know that Audi upped the output just enough to brag about.

Sedan or SUV? Lamborghini Still Unsure.

Sedan or SUV? Lamborghini Still Unsure. test 1-1

Previous sound bites from Stephan Winkelmann had all but confirmed that Lamborghini is building a sedan as its third model. But a new Car and Driver report indicates that Lamborghini still isn't 100 percent behind the sedan. In fact, the report brings us right back to last summer, at which point it was reported that Lamborghini was debating between an SUV and a sedan.

Saab Listed As One Of Ten Brands That Will Disappear In 2012

Saab Listed As One Of Ten Brands That Will Disappear In 2012 test 1-1

Now I love me some A&W All-American Food Restaurants and Soap Opera Digest, but when 24/7 Wall Street includes a car company (especially one I like) on its list of “Ten Brands That Will Disappear in 2012”, well, it got my attention.

That they couldn’t back it up with a successful pick-rate in their 2011 list of dead brands walking, however, kept me from panicking.

[The car company they predicted that would fold this year—Kia Motors— is doing just fine, thank you.]

Honda S2000 Concept Revived For Launch In 2013

Honda S2000 Concept Revived For Launch In 2013 test 2

According to Auto Express, sources in Japan claim that Honda intends to implement both car and motorcycle technologies towards creating a front-wheel drive, sports coupe as a possible successor for the long-departed S2000. This reborn coupe will be based on the current gasoline-electric CR-Z platform, but is expected to have a smaller body and shorter overhangs. Styling cues will derive from Honda’s OSM concept car (pictured above).

Most excitingly, the next generation Beat will incorporate some of Honda’s cutting edge technology. Engine specifics remain unclear, but either or both the 1.3L and 1.5L advanced VTECs are likely candidates to be offered to an eager public.

Smaller SLS AMG 911 Fighter Coming In 2014 test 2

The SLS AMG Roadster has just gotten out of the gate, so attention has naturally turned to other upcoming Mercedes ventures; rumors of a smaller, cheaper version of the SLS being referred to as the SLC have been flying for a few months. Now German magazine Auto Bild has come out with a few new details on what the car will be all about and when we'll see it.

Ford To Offer Turbo V-4 On Mustang?

Ford To Offer Turbo V-4 On Mustang test 2

Chevy may not be the only U.S. automaker looking to smaller, turbocharged engines for its muscle icon. According to Motor Authority, Ford is considering shrinking its base Mustang engine to a turbocharged four-cylinder. Like Chevy, though, Ford doesn't plan on abandoning Mustang purists and will offer a range of engine options, including the Mustang GT's 5.0-liter V8.

According to MotorAuthority's report, Ford will use a 2.3-liter version of its turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four in the next-generation Mustang beginning around 2015. There's no word on what the output of that engine will look like at this early stage in the game.

Audi Plans A9 Flagship For 2014

Audi Plans A9 Flagship For 2014 test 2

Mercedes CL, Porsche Panamera, and BMW 6 Series, watch out, there's a new Audi in town. Or at least there will be in a couple of years. An Audi A9 has been rumored for a while now, and Britain's Car magazine has some new details on the top dog. While the final form(s) (four-door coupe, 2 + 2) that the A9 will take is still undecided, it looks to be all but a sure thing.
