Ferrari Leaning Toward V-12 For New Enzo

On: Wed, Aug 17, 2011 at 5:29PM | By: Chris Weiss

Ferrari Leaning Toward V-12 For New Enzo test 2

Last fall, Fiat unraveled a Ferrari road map detailing what cars were coming over the next few years and when we could expect them. From that, we know that Ferrari has saved its juiciest releases for next year. The company will unveil a successor for the Enzo as well as a replacement for its current flagship 599 GTB. A new Auto News report this week lends a closer look at these two cars.

According to the latest, Ferrari is leaning toward a V-12 engine for the next Enzo, which is being called the F70 internally. That contradicts an Autocar report from this past spring that Ferrari was thinking twin-turbo V-8 for the flagship. The V-12 is likely to carry somewhere in the range of 700 to 800 horses.

Land Rover Launches 2012 RR Evoque "Test Drive Experience" tour at Pebble Beach

2012 Range Rover Evoque test 2

Land Rover—and its premium brand Range Rover—fought long and hard to develop its reputation for building the ultimate in terrain-conquering vehicles, ranging from its anvil-simple (and tough) post-WWII Series I to today’s luxury-laden Range Rover Supercharged .

What they’ve all had in common was a quest to build the best off-roader possible, both in terms of capability and creature comforts. Sure, “real” Land Rover people saw the original Range Rover as an abomination, too big to go off-road and too loaded with “unnecessary” luxury touches to ever be successful.

But as this year marks the Range Rover’s 40th birthday, I think even the most hard-core Landie fan would have to admit that building the RR turned out fine. Well, come 2011 and the grumble’s started again thanks to LR’s latest creation, the itty-bitty 2012 Range Rover Evoque. So, will this be another long-lived success, or will it ruin the firm’s reputation? Hmmm…

Audi Shows Off Light, Green 'Urban Concept'

Audi Shows Off Light, Green 'Urban Concept' test 2

After an inadvertent reveal via spy shot, Audi has provided some official information and pictures of its Urban Concept. The car, which will make its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show next month, takes compact and lightweight to the next level.

This one is definitely more of a fully conceptual, tinkering-with-ideas-type concept than a preview of a future Audi car. Audi describes it:

"The Audi urban concept is not based on any previous model—its development is solely oriented on the strict principles of lightweight construction, efficiency and reduction. The result is a concept car with no unnecessary weight, and one that concentrates on the pure essence of sporty motion."

Motown Muscle And More Return To Woodward Ave. For Annual Dream Cruise

Most every town that has young people with cars and roads for them to operate on will have a semi-official stretch of street upon which “ordinary driving” magically becomes “cruising.” Part one-upmanship, part mating ritual; it’s a crucible in which men test each other’s mettle—and metal—in fire-belching, tire-shredding quarter-mile door-to-door gladiatorial combat as a way to shame their rivals and impress the fairer sex in the hopes of future hand-holding—or worse.

And no strip on this earth is more famous—or notorious—than Detroit’s Woodward Avenue, a 16-mile stretch of blacktop upon which engineers from The Big Three waged war against each other or anyone else foolish enough to line up beside them to go for it when the light turned green.

Monterey The DXL Way: The Finest In Food, Fun And Ferraris

Monterey the DXL way test 2

I’m sorry if I seem a bit down today, but I’ve got that “Why-is-wealth-wasted-on-the-wealthy?” kind of blues. It’s totally my fault, as I am poor and therefore have no business reading Sports Car Market magazine with an undeserved sense of entitlement.

Sure, everyone likes Ferraris, even those that can’t afford them. And even journalist wretches like yours truly can get into almost every event and function held during the seemingly five-month-long “Pebble Beach Weekend” (try walking it all just once and you’ll see how time-distortion is the BEST by-product of the experience). But even top-shelf Media badges will only get you close enough to the hoi-polloi to see how much better their vantage points, food, company, etc., are than yours.

But now someone’s come along and made everything I thought was “the best you can get” during the Weekend and made it clear that there is DEFINITELY something better (though even MORE out of my price range): their aptly-named “Prestige Adventure.”

Kia Gets Juice: Two V-8 Concepts Coming in Next Year

Kia Gets Juice: Two V-8 Concepts Coming in Next Year test 1-1

Korean cars have really come a long way in the past few decades. Growing up, I remember the brand "Hyundai" being equivalent to "cheap, Korean junk." But, more recently, Hyundai has established itself as a manufacturer of award-winning and even luxurious automobiles like the Equus and Genesis. It's a whole 'nother Hyundai.

Renault Shows Off Dual-Functioned, Electric Frendzy Concept test 1-1

The hot, long, quiet days of summer are upon us. Being that it's an odd year, means that it's the perfect time to start showing and discussing Frankfurt Motor Show debuts. Renault took just that liberty last week, unveiling a concept that it calls "Frendzy."

The Car Show: Did You Watch It?

The Car Show: Did You Watch It? test 2

In announcing its debut episode Wednesday, I mentioned The Car Show’s key to success—don't be Top Gear—and it seems TCS has taken my advice. Top Gear is more of an entertaining show (at least the BBC version is) that tries to be automotive, whereas The Car Show aims to be an automotive show that tries to be entertaining. The eclectic group of qualified misfits they’ve assembled creates a dynamic group that almost any car enthusiast can relate to in some way.

Rumor: De Tomaso Pantera Coming In Frankfurt test 1-1

De Tomaso has admitted its next car is on the way later this year, but has yet to announce when exactly it will be unveiled. Up until this week, the LA Auto Show had been the popular rumor, but German publication Auto Bild reports that it may just come a few months earlier. According to the magazine, we can expect to see it in about two months.

The Car Show Premieres Tonight On SPEED test 2

The Car Show premieres tonight on SPEED, and I don’t know about you, but we’re pretty excited about it. The Car Show is hosted by comedian and car fanatic Adam Carolla, Pulitzer Prize-winning automotive journalist Dan Neil, founder of “TheSmokingTire.com” Matt Farah and former co-host of The Best Damn Sports Show and NBA champion John Salley. Not a bad cast.
