With the Tokyo Motor Show complete, the major auto shows are officially over this year. That means that attention has turned to the auto shows of 2012, particularly the big winter shows like Detroit and Geneva. One of the latest 2012 auto-show rumors is that Lamborghini will unveil a convertible version of the new Aventador LP700-4 at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
A post on the Teamspeed forums indicates that the Aventador LP700-4 Roadster is officially ready and will make its world debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, which opens to the press on March 6. According to the poster, the actual car looks even better than any of the renderings that have been floating around the Web.

Well, there have been years of rumors about two separate cars, but it's finally official: an Acura NSX successor is here. Or at least close to here--Acura confirmed rumors that it will debut an NSX successor at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show in January.
From what Acura has said, the rumors have been pretty spot on. In addition to confirming the Detroit debut, Acura told Inside Line that the NSX successor will use a mid-engined, V-6-based hybrid powertrain. Given that other information from previous reports has been quite accurate, we're pretty comfortable with the idea that the NSX will have a V-6 engine in the range of 3.5 liters along with two electric motors.

While reviews of MINI’s most controversial model have rated the Countryman from great to confusing, the company has seen fit to bring their performance-oriented badge to the Countryman’s offbeat exterior. And so, a back roads-friendly John Cooper Works was born.
MINI has just released the first official teaser images associated with the Countryman JCW, to be sold as a 2012 model. Perhaps channeling the pseudo-utility of Ford’s F-150 Raptor, the Countryman JCW should comfortably dominate modest soft road terrains with all the quick handling and pizzazz you’d expect from a proper MINI JCW.

It looks like more utility within the electric city car segment is going to be a theme at next year's auto shows. We've already seen a Detroit-bound Smart For-Us pickup concept, and now we have another versatile Smart: the For-Two Electric Drive equipped with Rinspeed's new Dock+Go.
Unlike the Smart For-Us concept, Rinspeed's Dock + Go is an aftermarket accessory, not a unique model. It is designed to work with the Smart For-Two and is essentially a range-extending trailer that can be outfitted with either a gas engine or fuel cell. In this way, you can have an electric city car for your daily commute and a longer-range hybrid or fuel-cell electric for longer drives.

Honda came to this year's Tokyo Motor Show with a clear focus on green technology. In addition to its electric Small Sports EV Concept and Advanced Cruiser-X plug-in hybrid concept, Honda detailed a raft of new green powertrains that it calls Earth Dreams Technology. Though a somewhat spacey, new age-y name, the technologies promise to deliver superior electric and hybrid driving and may preview the upcoming NSX successor's motivation.
The Earth Dreams platform will be integral to Honda's ambitious plans for the next few years. Honda aims to offer industry-leading fuel economy within every vehicle class within three years' time. It also plans to cut fleet emissions by 30 percent by 2020.

Smart has just released images of the company’s latest concept, an urban assault-type vehicle set to debut at next month’s Detroit Auto Show. Although a bit humorous in comparison with other modern pickup trucks, the Smart For-Us is targeted for young folks looking for a quasi-practical loading vehicle capable of handling at least two full-sized bicycles.
But, don’t get the wrong idea. The For-Us will be small, really small.

Over the past month details have slowly emerged about Dodge’s newest entry into the compact sedan segment. Discussions initially raged about possible design platforms, engine options, and finally the would-be Dodge’s future name. We know now, this latest Dodge will be officially labeled the Dart – channeling days of yore.
Along with a company-provided teaser website, the following images allow an opportunity for tiny Mopar fans to start salivating. What’s more, since we know the 2013 Dodge Dart will be based on Alfa Romeo’s Giulietta, we can get a basic idea of how the car might look by imagining the front and rear fascia images provided by Dodge tacked onto the body of an appropriate Alfa.

Toyota unveiled the Fun-Vii concept at last week's Tokyo Motor Show. The concept creates a seamless bridge between consumer and commercial vehicle, providing an intriguing feature set.
The most obvious and notable aspect of the Fun-Vii is its smartphone integration functions. A lot of current vehicles use smartphones for things like music streaming and Internet connectivity, but the futuristic Fun-Vii takes it a few steps further. Toyota's version of smartphone integration includes an app that drivers can use to customize the exterior of the Fun-Vii--anything from different colors and designs to virtual billboards for small businesses.

Usually automakers as exotic as Gumpert only build one or two models at any given point in history. But Gumpert appears eager to expand beyond a one-hypercar exotic nameplate. Last year, it introduced the Tornante by Touring--a sexier, more refined supercar over its original Apollo--at the 2011 Geneva Motor show. Just one year later, Gumpert will follow that debut with another new model.
Gumpert has offered very little on its new car, but released a shadowy teaser photo and the vague promise of a car with an "unmistakable sound."

As interesting as we found the general idea of the Juke R concept, we knew it wasn't meant to be. Mostly because Nissan said so, but also because common sense dictated that such a wild, nonsensical car really had no market future.
Just because a 530-hp GT-R-in-a-Juke-package isn't meant to be doesn't mean that there isn't room for a high-performance Juke of some kind. Nissan debuted a more realistic iteration of Juke tunage at the 2012 Tokyo Motor Show.

AMG And Ducati Streetfighters: Three Seats, Six Wheels And 554 Horsepower Set To Make Their Matching-Hue Debut
I know there’s been more than a few of you who’ve questioned the logic behind Mercedes-Benz’s forays into non-car-related businesses like custom helicopters, branded credit cards, men’s perfume, Superdome naming rights and the ridiculous smart transport module.
Well, at least this latest “branding” opportunity won’t bring shame to the Benz name: to “underscore the importance of the cooperation entered into by Mercedes-AMG and Ducati one year ago” both companies have created unique—and matching—special-edition vehicles to put on display at the Bologna Motor Show, Dec. 3 -11.
The vehicles in question are a 2012 model year Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG convertible and a 2012 Ducati Streetfighter 848 superbike. Both are painted in “Streetfighter Yellow” with matching black thin-spoke alloys and—in the case of the SLK, mostly—black upholstery.
But unlike most one-of-one auto show creations, you might actually have a chance of buying not just one—but both—of these….
