Sick Of Your Geo Already?

GM is rolling out an ambitious 'rebate' plan next week. Try full rebate. If you find you don't like your new GM vehicle, for any reason, in the first sixty days of ownership, you can return it for a full refund. The marketing blitzkrieg features a folksy Texan and fresh product. Actually, most of it is 'fresh' only if you were smart enough to avoid that Transformers 2 turdcicle. We dummies have all laid eyes on the Chevy Beat already.

The program doesn't extend to Pontiacs or leased vehicles. Edward Whitacre Jr. is the silver-tongued Texan in the commercial. In the Alan Mullay-vein, GM hired Whitacre away from AT&T to become GM's Chairman of the Board. The pitch is simple: if for any reason you're not satisfied with your new GM vehicle (Cadillac included), and you have yet to turn four thousand miles, bring it on back to the dealer. Your payments must also be current; simple enough.

I have a Question: if dealerships aren't getting their money for Cash4Clunkers sakes, how are we supposed to believe that every return is going to result in a full refund? I realize that these will be only the balance of the car's full price, but even a few grand might turn out to be a beauro-redtape-nightmare. Just a thought . . .
