Even before the debut at the Paris Motor Show, Lexus has disclosed details of the new 2011 IS model. The new Lexus looks pretty much the same as last year's model, however, the exterior styling changes including headlight and rear light designs, revised front grille design, new exterior colors, and alloy wheel designs, as well as LED daytime running lights added to high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights.

The IS F-Sport step-up model has received a new front spoiler, a modified spoiler in the rear, a revised front grille, as well as 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside the cabin the IS gets upgraded with a new “titanium effect,” as well as an anthracite headliner. Focus on the styling changes is on the F-Sport grade, which now duplicates more closely the appearance of its high-performance sister, the IS F. Lexus hopes to appeal to younger car buyers with this marketing strategy.

Inside the sports factor continues with F-Sport steering wheel, gear lever and sports pedals, and front seats finished in leather and Alcantara. Extra touches of titanium-effect trim and a dark, anthracite roof liner are also new with the 2011 model.

As far as performance goes, the IS 220d is now the 200d powered by a 2.2 liter diesel engine that puts out 148 hp and 251 lb ft of torque. With a six-speed manual transmission the new IS model will travel from 0-62 mph in 10.2 seconds.

Gas mileage improves from 31.7 to 33.6mpg in the combined ratings.

The V6 engine is available in the IS 250 model; it produces 205 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. In the sedan, combined fuel consumption climbs to 33.6mpg (up from 31.7 mph) while CO2 emissions fall to 194 g/km (down from 209 g/km). For the convertible, the figures are 30.7mpg and 213 g/km. The six-speed manual will not be available in the 2011 model.

This is the most significant redesign of the Lexus IS since the 2009 model, delivering improved fuel economy and lower emissions. The new features will be formally announced at this years’ Paris Motor Show in October, the starting price for Lexus IS will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $30,950.
