Best Buy Adds Ford Vans For Its Geek Squad Fleet

Best Buy is partnering up with Ford Motor Company to purchase a new fleet of commercial vans in an effort to save money while making the Geek Squad fleet more efficient. 290 fuel saving Ford Transit Connect vans will be used to replace the large cargo vans that Best Buy currently uses.

The popular electronics store is planning to hand over the Transit Connect vans to its Geek Squad employees, and the bigger E-Series vans will be used by those who deliver and install home appliances, such as home theatre equipment.

The unique look of the Ford Transit Connect will blend well with the exclusive Geek Squad business insignia, and will give technicians easy access to tools and equipment via the side access panels in the vans. Every new vehicle will wear the Geek Squad brand colors of black and white with the orange and black Geek Squad logo.

Other than the Transit Connect vehicles, Best Buy will also purchase 738 E-Series vans. According to Best Buy Fleet Manager, Jason Pucely: “the Ford cargo vans have smaller, more efficient engines than the vehicles they will replace, saving the global retail outlet a significant chunk of change.”

Director of Commercial Truck Sales at Ford was quoted in a recent press release as stating: "We appreciate Best Buy's business and confidence in our commercial van lineup." Len Deluca also said, "The combination of Transit Connect and E-Series provides a wide range of utilization that will help Best Buy meet its customers' needs."

Pucely feels that the Ford Transit Connect will allow Geek Squad technicians the space and functionality they need in order to more efficiently do their jobs: "We're streamlining all of our activities, we've developed a more effective routing system, and we're more efficient with the tools and parts we carry when we do our work. That has enabled us to put the same technician doing the same work in a smaller, lighter vehicle."

Another advantage that Pucely sees in the transition is that "Our technicians typically carry diagnostic equipment, motors and other electronic parts, so having the side access panels will make it easier for them to get to the equipment they need," he said.

Regarding the appearance of Ford’s Transit Connect, Pucely stated: "A distinctive vehicle has been part of the history of Geek Squad in the marketplace. We value our fleet as a tool to enhance our brand messaging, and the Transit Connect will certainly help in that effort."

Another connection between Ford and Best Buy is that Best Buy is a sponsor of the No. 43 Best Buy/Insignia Ford Fusion of Richard Petty Motorsports in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series.
