G-Power's BMW M5-Based Hurricane RR Is World's Fastest Production Sedan

All of our world speed record attention of late has been focused on two door supercars, what with the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport breaking the record and the next-generation SSC Ultimate Aero TT on the way next month. However, from the tuner stables comes a world speed record story that sports a few extra doors: the G-Power Hurricane RR. The suped-up 800-hp BMW M5 can take you and your family to the local soccer field at a walloping speed of 231.2 mph. It's a long ways off of the Bugatti's 268 mph track run, but it's pretty damn impressive for a premium sedan.

On its way to attaining the lofty top speed, G-Power fitted the M5's 5.0-liter V10 engine with a twin-supercharger system that brings the car up to 800 horses worth of output (up from 500 hp). The superchargers are larger than the models used on the tuner's already potent Hurricane RS, helping to deliver that extra burst of power and speed. G-Power also tuned the engine with new pistons, piston pins and connecting rods, and reworked electronic mapping. The upgraded V10 delivers its peak output of 800 hp between 7,500 and 8,000 rpm and its peak torque of 590 lb-ft at 5,000 rpm.

To manage the extra grunt, G-Power converted the exterior with its Highline body kit, which includes front and rear skirts and spoilers, doors render and the rear spoiler. The kit adds downforce while delivering more air cooling to the engine. The tune also includes a coilover suspension system and high-performance brakes.

On track day, the Hurricane RR sported 19-inch wheels wrapped up in Michelin Pilot Sport tires designed specifically to hold up under high-speed runs. The tires were sized 255/35 ZR 19 in front and 305/30 ZR 19 in back. After just a few laps, the sedan hit its top speed record around 231 mph, besting G-Power's own 228 mph mark that it set earlier this year with the Hurricane RS. The company's press release doesn't mention any third-party authentication, so bear in mind that the 231 mph mark is of G-Power's own certification.

Outside of its record-breaking top speed, the Hurricane RR boasts other impressive performance figures. Acceleration is given at 4.35 seconds to 62 mph and 9.5 seconds to 124 mph (200 km/h). The car gets to 186 mph (300 km/h) in 25.8 seconds.

To own the world's fastest production sedan, you're looking at a $71,780 buy-in, along with the M5 or M6 model to be converted. The inside of the tuned M5 gets a new tachometer, clear-coated carbon fiber accents and an ergonomic G-Power steering wheel all wrapped up in perforated Kjerba Nappa leather.
