Vintage Camping: Good Things Come In Smaller Packages
Not all road trips require a behemoth RV that is ugly and drains your wallet every time you gas it up, not to mention most people are not comfortable driving such monstrosities. How about traveling to your favorite camping spots in a unique completely restored VW bus? Want to camp at the beach and fish till dark? Well, Florida Oldscool Campers, LLC can assist you in planning a perfect holiday.
No more staying at high-priced hotel rooms, you can camp at thousands of beautiful locations throughout Florida with camper vans that are available for rent daily, weekly, or monthly. Oldscool Campers is a young company that has big plans to add more restored VW campers to their fleet in the near future; in fact, according to Mike, the Fleet Manager, they plan to have a green, orange, beige, and blue available for this spring.
Each VW Westfalia is meticulously restored to near new and then thoroughly tested, by driving each one thousands of miles and at least three road trips, before they are rental ready. All buses are stocked with everything you will need; Linens, pots, pans, cooking utensils, dish towels, bath towels, wash cloths, place setting, cups, and coffee mugs, two camp chairs, maps and campground directory. They even offer extras like GPS, cell phones, coolers, portable A/C units, kayaks, and surfboards.
If you need shore power, the VW Westfalia has full hook-ups including water and standard 110 outlets. If a campground isn't your style, the camper has an onboard water tank, sink, icebox, external propane tank, and two batteries. The only thing you need is a planned road trip, and if you do not have one, they can help you find the best camping spots, direct you towards a scenic road, or even a great side trip that would be missed by the typical tourist. If you are flying in, local airport pickup/drop off is available.
If you have priced the typical RV rentals you were probably sticker shocked as I was, but these are rather affordable starting at $595 a week. Now, I am not saying that these compare with modern day RVs that have all the comforts of home, but these are for anyone who likes camping and likes vintage rides. Since the camper van is smaller, it slides into a standard parking place with no fuss. These classics are for the semi-minimalist camper, the type who gets out on the road and stops wherever he please for a nap or to just take in a sunset at the beach.
Traveling in a VW bus makes it possible to create your own adventure and look cool doing it. Anywhere you go with one of these and you are sure to turn heads. I am heading down to the Keys for Lobster Mini Season at the end of the month and I am spending a small fortune on a motel room for the week; I would rather camp at one of the beautiful spots near the beach than stay at any overpriced motel anytime.
