Chevrolet hosts Camaro 50th Anniversary celebration

If you were to sit down with a few of your friends and make a list of the top 10 truly iconic American cars in any class, it is very likely that no one would argue with the inclusion of the Chevrolet Camaro. The car, designed as a competitor to the insanely popular Ford Mustang, was initially rolled out for the 1967 model year. It was first made available to the general public on September 29th, 1966. This American classic muscle car remained in production continuously until 2002. General Motors decided to reintroduce the car for the 2010 model year, and it has been going strong ever since. The current era Camaro is definitely a head turner, and the car's ongoing popularity is not surprising. In fact, my own head was turned all the way to the dealership when I bought my 2014 Camaro about a year and a half ago.

Since the Camaro was first offered for sale to the general public, guess what? In a couple of months, we will be celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of that memorable beginning. The Chevrolet division of General Motors has decided to take the event quite seriously. They will hold a big celebration to commemorate the birth of this muscle car that still captures the imagination in the 21st century. The only fitting place to celebrate one of the original standard bearers of American muscle would be the Motor City,Detroit, Michigan. This town has taken its lumps over recent decades, but it was the epicenter of the automotive industry in the United States for a very long time.

This is no one-hour event with a couple of little speeches and a toast. The Camaro 50 celebration will take place over three days: August 18th, 19th and 20th. On Thursday, the 18th, there will be a Camaro Factory Fest. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant, which is where the car is put together. The Camaro 50 Rally will take place on Friday, and the Woodward Dream Cruise will provide an encore on Saturday.

If you are a muscle car enthusiast who is anywhere near Detroit, this is an event that you should certainly consider. To learn more, click this link:Celebrate Camaro 50.
