Nissan recalls 100,000 vehicles

If you own a 2014-2016 Nissan Rogue, you may need to take a trip back to the dealer very soon. If your vehicle was built between July 31, 2013 through January 16, 2016, it may be susceptible to a factory defect. It seems that in these vehicles the supports for the rear lift gate may corrode because they were not given sufficient anti-corrosion treatments when they were built. This recall affects a total vehicle count of 108,503 Rogues.

As you can imagine, if the corrosion becomes bad enough, the supports may rust and break. If they break, the lift gate could fall down, and they weight a lot more than they appear to, which could cause some serious injury to anyone trying to load or unload from the rear hatch. Nissan has said they will notify owners of the recall next month, and then again when they have the necessary parts in stock. The repair will not owners anything other than their time. Owners can call Nissan at 1-800-647-7261with any questions. Read on for the full report ...

NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V219000
Component(s): STRUCTURE
Potential Number of Units Affected: 108,503
Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Nissan Rogue vehicles manufactured July 31, 2013, to January 16, 2016. In the affected vehicles, the rear lift gate support stays may corrode due to insufficient anti-corrosion treatment.

Corrosion of one or both of the rear lift gate support stays could cause a sudden release of pressure. If this occurs, the support stays may break off, increasing the risk of injury.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear tailgate stays, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Owners will be sent interim notifications by mid-June 2016. A second notice will be sent when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
