Nissan recalls 12,000 vVehicles

Anyone who owns a 2016 Nissan Murano or Maxima should pay attention. Nissan has issued a recall of both of these models, totaling 12,616 in all.  Specifically, Murano vehicles produced from December 17, 2015 through February 11, 2016 and Maxima vehicles made from November 25, 2015 through February 12, 2016 that have been equipped with ABS and VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control). It seems that the O-Ring on the ABS actuator could be damaged, which could result in a drop in brake fluid pressure. If this happens, the lack of pressure could cause a decrease in braking ability for these cars, and result in much longer than normal distances to come to a stop. Obviously, farther braking distances can have very severe consequences for drivers.

Nissan has said it will begin this recall on June 4th of 2016 and will bring in each of these cars and replace the ABS actuator for free. Customers can call Nissan with any questions or to schedule their fix at 1-800-647-7261. Read on for the full report ...

NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V193000

Component(s): SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

Potential Number of Units Affected:12,616

Manufacturer:Nissan North America, Inc.

SUMMARY:
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2016 Murano vehicles manufactured December 17, 2015, to February 11, 2016, and 2016 Maxima vehicles manufactured November 25, 2015, to February 12, 2016 and equipped with an antilock braking system (ABS) and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC). The ABS actuator may have a damaged O-ring that may result in a lack of brake fluid pressure.

CONSEQUENCE:
Insufficient brake fluid pressure may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the ABS actuator, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by June 4, 2016. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
