Acura NSX To Be Most Expensive Car Built in U.S.

The 2017 Acura NSX has already achieved an impressive number of accolades, but amid the praise and the world-class performance numbers, the NSX will have one other less-known attribute:  being the most expensive car built in North America.

In a report released by Kelly Blue Book, which was the first to discover this intriguing fact while looking into the NSX, when the car begins production at Honda's Performance Center in Marysville, Ohio, it will officially take the most expensive crown away from the Dodge Viper.

Part of the is mainly due to its $156,00 base MSRP which is roughly 50 percent higher than the domestically produced serpent's $90,000 price tag. Ford is also close to getting its upcoming GT into formal production, but even then the NSX will retain its crown since the GT will be built in Canada by Multimatic Inc., a Canadian supplier of racing vehicles for Ford. This would be a sizeable shift from the old GT which was built in a Detroit area plant.

As expected from a supercar, top-tier NSX models surpass the $200,000 barrier and Acura has hinted that more versions of the NSX are in the pipeline. The brand stated that an initial run of 800 units will be built for the 2016 model year, before gradually increasing over the next few years. The first unit is expected to be delivered shortly after production formally starts in April.
