Volkswagen Unveils Golf Sportwagen Limited Edition

With the current generation SportWagen expanding its reach to both diesel and non-diesel buyers, Volkswagen has released an all-new limited edition model that aims to maintain the SportWagen's strong sales momentum, while adding some rarity and uniqueness to the model family.

Seated between the S and SE trim levels, the new Limited Edition arrives with more standard technology, including an array of driving technologies such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert, blind spot monitoring, and autonomous emergency braking capability. The Limited Edition also comes with other standard equipment including 17-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, chrome trim surrounds for the windows, and model-exclusive "Limited Edition" badging that is discreetly placed on the front fenders. Look for this balanced equipment lineup to appeal to value-minded buyers who want more for their dollar than the spartan S trim, while not going too far over budget with a conventional SE-grade SportWagen.

The interior of the Limited Edition also gets some tweaks: Standard heated seats, push button ignition system, and Volkswagen's all-new MIB II Infotainment system. Otherwise, the interior layout should be roughly the same as other SportWagen models; however, I would like to see more bright work in the interior to help add some contrast to the cabin while reducing the amount of dark hues that are especially prevalent in the S trim. Performance for the Limited Edition comes from the base 1.8-liter TSI four-cylinder engine that incorporates turbocharging and direct injection. Good for a healthy 170 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque, the engine sends its power to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission which allows the Limited Edition to boast 25 mpg in city driving and a commendable 35 mpg on the freeway.

The 2016 Volkswagen SportWagen Limited Edition starts at $24,995. Look for the first deliveries to arrive later this month; Volkswagen will also release information on whether it is, indeed, a limited production model, or if it will be limited in name only, and continue as a regular trim level in the SportWagem family.
