Beater That's Hard To Beat: 2003-2007 Honda Accord Coupe

In terms of blue chip transportation, the Honda Accord is tough to beat. It has lots of practical features, reliable engines, and it's not bad to drive either. But if you want something a bit more interesting, the 2003-2007 Honda Accord Coupe does everything the sedan can do, but with a bit more... style. And that makes it a beater that's hard to beat...

The 2003–2007 Honda Accord Coupe is a five-passenger two-door, that was popular with young professionals, and JDM fanboys that use words like 'yo' and 'bro'. It has a clean, sophisticated look that doesn't shout at pedestrians (there's plenty of aftermarket bodykits for that... bro). The inside is roomy and comfortable, with lots of nice materials, good build quality, and great outward visibility. From grueling commutes to long trips, the inside of the Accord Coupe is a nice place to be. And if you opt for the V6 coupe, it'll also be an entertaining place to be.

The best feature of any Honda is, of course, the engine. The 2003-2007 Honda Accord Coupe comes standard with a smooth, reliable 160hp 2.4L 4-cylinder (yes, it has VTEC... yo). Power is sent to the front wheels through either a 5-speed manual, or 5-speed automatic. The manual will be the most reliable choice, as the 5-cog automatic was prone to early failure. If you're considering a car with the automatic, check the service history, and try to get one with a new(er) transmission. You can easily extend the life of these gearboxes by not driving hard (bro), and changing the transmission fluid/filter every 30,000–50,000 miles.

If you want a more exciting beater, the 2003–2007 Honda Accord V6 Coupe comes with a 240hp 3.0L V6 (it has VTEC too... bro), and your choice of either a slick-shifting 6-speed manual, or that same 5-speed auto. Acceleration is brisk, and the creamy smooth engine makes a delightful noise. The steering is laser sharp, and the suspension manages to be both controlled and comfortable. No other performance mods are made to the Accord Coupe V6, but you can find EX models with sporty 17-inch wheels, a sunroof, and a loud stereo. All post-2006 cars got a revised suspension and different styling details. The V6 coupe also got new 17-inch wheels and stability control as standard.

Depending on the mileage and condition, you can find a 2003–2007 Honda Accord Coupe for $5,000-$9,000. If you want an automatic, have it inspected prior to purchase. But if you can drive a clutch, go for the powerful 2003–2007 Honda Accord V6 Coupe. Because it's one beater that's hard to beat.
