Toyota Builds Wicked Cool Camry and Avalon for SEMA

The words 'cool' and 'sexy' have never been used to describe a Toyota Avalon or Toyota Camry. It's never happened. We checked. Then Toyota's TRD division built some show cars for SEMA, and, well, the unthinkable happened. So let's have a look at the very cool, very sexy SEMA Edition TRD Camry and SEMA Edition TRD Avalon. Be forewarned, you might actually want one...

A few years ago, Toyota's chairman told his designers to start building more exciting cars. And, to be honest, the latest crop of Toyota vehicles have been... a lot less boring. But the terms 'cool' and 'sexy' still didn't apply. Then the TRD guys completely lost their minds, and turned two of the brand's most boring cars, into real, honest-to-God showstoppers.

SEMA Edition TRD Camry
This shockingly cool midsizer is based on a 2015 Toyota Camry XSE V6. To improve the looks and handling, the suspension was lowered 1 inch in the front and 1.5 inches in the back, using a set of TRD lowering springs (available through your local Toyota dealer). Then a set of bronze 21x9.5 TRD performance wheels (also available through your local Toyota dealer) were added, along with TRD performance-tuned struts, brake pads, and a custom TRD cat-back dual exhaust system. Other mods include a front chin spoiler, side sill extensions, a rear diffuser, and smoked headlamps. The interior is treated to lots of TRD logos and red contrast stitching. And the whole car is painted with a special color called Silver Pearl.

SEMA Edition TRD Avalon
This wild fullsizer is based on a 2015 Toyota Avalon XLE Touring, and it's blessed with the same modifications as the Killer Kamry.

Toyota is using the cars to gauge public opinion, which means they might actually be considering an official performance line. If that's the case, we wholeheartedly endorse the idea. But, for God's sake, build a Cool Camry at least...
